Truthfully, I go for their crepes, but my friends are always bey happy with their other menu choices too. The staff is friendly and we never feel rush to eat & leave. This isn't a place you need to really dress up to feel you fit in. However, you also could if the mood suits you & still not feel out of place. Truly, I am happy that they even have tables on the main level that accommodate those with mobility aids. However, that being said, I am struggling to recall if there would be a easy enough way for a wheelchair or even a walker to make it to the main door. I'll have to remember to focus on that long enough before my next crepe eating bliss hits. As Cowichan Bay is a popular area to stop for meals, do plan to go in advance for parking. As even if there are a few spots for the restaurant, there isn't enough space to accommodate the full restaurant. If you are able to find a spot at the restaurant or are double parking at the restaurant (which is apparently allowed), it is good to let the server know what vehicle is yours. Beyond more than mention "I've parked my vehicle here", so a server can notify you if people need to be let out of the space if they're leaving before you're done. If you don''re not lucky enough to grab a parking spot right at the restaurant, you might have to go far up the road (sometimes almost to the hotel) or down the road (towards the parking area by the pubic washrooms) to reach any parking options. Definitely try it out if you are looking fit an option in Cowichan Bay. I know I'm looking forward to many more future happy crepe eating moments here with friends.

The place is truly a bakery haven! They have so much stuff, from croissants, quiches, pies, sandwiches, sausage rolls, cookies, breads, danishes, scones, cakes, etc! We found it so difficult to choose but went with their sausage rolls, quiche and latte. The staff were so friendly and wearing their beautiful warm smiles. We drove out to Mill Bay and had our breakfast by the water, it was magical with the sunshine. LOVED the sausage roll; so moist and flavourful. The pastry was so flaky and I'm not even kidding when I say I wanna go back again tomorrow!!! The quiche was also delicious. It had lots of potatoes and was very filling. Again, the pastry was delicious. The latte was also nutty and velvety! Such a beautiful experience! Parking was tight but we found one shortly after we arrived. Both of us were pleasantly surprised at the quality of food for the speed it arrived to our table & would happily return again for a less time crunched meal. There's various sized tables & smaller ones are along the wall as you enter. Lighting was nice & didn't bother my eyes (surprising as I was struggling with migraine light sensitivity earlier that day). FYI parking is a bit tricky to figure out as you're coming off the main hwy & assume there would be something in front or just past the restaurant. In fact it is actually before the restaurant prior to Mosaic. So just do a loop around the block & try again. The sidewalk takes you right up to the Mosaic door. One of our travel partners is Indian so we were drawn to the offerings on the menu. It was quite a variety with Italian, Indian, Mexican and American. We ordered four main dishes, an appetizer of Tandori chicken wings and our Indian friend expressed his complete joy in finding such good food at a reasonable cost. As it turned out we all four were more than satisfied with our meals. My steak Ragatoni we excellent and the desert was delicate, not too sweet, enjoyable without the heaviness that comes with some. Sometimes the heart just wants what it wants. If you are of a certain age (like me) you may recall…read morethat most Chinese restaurants in North America served what was called 'American Chinese' (or as I call it, 'Gringo Chinese') cuisine. This was essentially Cantonese style cooking modified to suit American tastes and ingredient availability. These establishments also had a distinctive look to them, offering a sort of 'Disneyfied' view of Chinese decor and culture. As the world has become smaller and we have become more culinarily sophisticated, these restaurants have largely fallen out of favor, but there are still a few gems to be found. One such gem exists in a truly unlikely spot: a quite backwater Canadian village called Cowichan Bay on Vancouver Island. WHO SHOULD GO: Anyone who just wants some great OG American-Chinese chow. Culinary historians who would like to take a tasty trip down 'memory lane'. WHO SHOULD NOT GO: Snobby, pretentious, self-identifying 'foodies'. THE ROSES: Located on the Cowichan Bay waterfront, the Kim Wah is very spacious and clean. All the 'usual suspects' are represented on the menu: Sweet-and-sour pork, Chow Mein, etc. Dishes are available 'family style', and in set combination meals for one or more diners. Prices are reasonable, and portions are generous. Service is efficient. THE THORNS: There are some odd omissions in the details. I wanted some hot mustard to dip in, and they didn't have any. TOP TIP FOR KIM WAH: Go ahead and seriously 'Lean In' on the retro American-Chinese vibe. You've already got most of the accoutrements of a classic OG Am-Chinese joint, so go all the way. Get the paper place mats with the Chinese Zodiac on them! You know you want to! And feel free to go crazy with the red and gold 'Chinese New Year' decor. What little decor you have seems a bit spare. THE VERDICT: Whether you dine in or are getting takeout to carry to your boat at the nearby marina, the Kim Wah Restaurant is a delightful and tasty throwback to a simpler time. Recommend!
