I have a number of friends who have been eating at The Corner Galley in Massapequa for years. To hear them tell it, the place is the stuff of legend; to hear me tell it, once was more than enough. The place was dark and old looking which sometimes isn't bad, but the dark and woody ambiance gave me the feeling that there was a fair amount of vintage dirt that couldn't be seen in the dim light. The closer I looked the more I was convinced I was right. To be fair, it wasn't completely terrible, as I enjoyed the family style salad that arrived very shortly after we ordered. Everything in it was fresh and crisp, and the dressing was quite passable. There were numerous selections on the menu, which looks very diner-like. For my entrée I selected the fried chicken and ribs platter. What was touted as fried honey dipped chicken should have said "friend honey dipped chicken that has been sitting in the freezer, and will remind you of a Swanson TV dinner from your childhood" To put it in technical terms, it sucked. It arrived at the table quickly enough to convince me that it passed through a microwave on its trip from the freezer to my table. One piece plus 2 bites was all it took for me to call it quits. The ribs were no better. In this era, where decent ribs can be found in a variety of establishments (if you want really good ribs where the meat falls off the bone just right, I recommend you try Houston's in Westbury), it was disappointing to find such a poor rendition here. Actually after the fried chicken disaster that came on my plate, I should not have been surprised. I can't figure out what it is my friends and the other regulars find so good about the place, but I have made my 1st and only visit to this place of legend. read more

Update: The owner got butt-hurt by me telling him his food is below mediocre (see his comment below). I ran a 5 star Italian restaurant in New Hyde Park for 5 years, so I know how to make good Calamari and good Marinara sauce. This restaurant does not. Avoid this place and their owner who would rather respond like an ass instead of improve upon his restaurants' very sub-par food. Original: My Girlfriend and I are one and done at this restaurant. When we got in, it was packed on a Friday at 7pm, which was a good sign. The food itself was not good. Our fried calamari had zero taste and was fried with oil that definitely needed to be replaced way before our batch of calamari. The marinara sauce for the calamari was horrible and straight out of a cheap supermarket sauce jar. My baked potato had insanely hard skin that I couldn't chew, and my salmon burger had barely any taste as well. My girlfriend said that the chili was okay, so at least she was content with that part of her dinner. Overall, it was a wasted dinner night out. read more

I came to see a friend, Dave Christian, play acoustic guitar and sing during the dinner service. The service is noticeably friendly and the menu seems broad and at very reasonable prices. Entrees and burgers come with bottomless dinner salad and soft drinks (or beer or wine carafe). Went for dinner last Wednesday. The place was packed had a couple very big tables. My wife and I happen to know the owners and they always have a nice hello from them. This place cateres to there regulars because owners and staff seem to knows everyone. That includes there bartender Margret who is always happy to see us especially my daughter. On to the food. While the presentation does not warrant a cover on Gourmet magazine the food is hot and tastes good. We started with cordon bleu sticks which are made in house really good served with honey mustard. My wife's favorite. We both had burgers which were Cooke perfectly lobe thick fries. My daughter liked her chicken tenders which are also made in house. Add the salad which is free and pitcher of Miller light 1.00 can't beat that. While the corner galley is nothing fancy it serves good food and drink in a warm friendly atmosphere. Our friends have been going here for over 25 years, so we made the hour ride from suffolk county to get there. It's kind of stuck in a time warp. Like 1978. The tables and chairs look like they might be from the day they opened. Not hating on it just saying. The wait staff is really friendly and the food was pretty good. I got the bison burger which was over cooked and dry. I'm still trying to figure out how they make money. The bill at the end was redicoulisly cheap. You can not go wrong with this place, and can do much worse. We stopped in for a drink tonight to check it out. They had 4 good micro's on tap in addition to the standards. My wife had a cosmo that suited her finicky taste. We looked at the menu and at first thought that the prices were a tad high until we saw all that was included. Not only do you get a large portion, fully included meal with all the trimmings, but you get a free caraf of wine or a small pitcher of beer per entree. Beer refills are only $1. Quite the deal. My family came down to se my Grand Uncle in Seaford today. The reason why we were in Long Island, is that he is moving to a different place. So after we saw the place, we decided to try this place for dinner. My uncle here this place was really good. When we were seated, one waiter was taking care of us then with in 10 minutes he said we have another waiter for us. When we were looking at the menu, we thought the prices were kind of pricey. The second waiter was not good at all. First he did not know what the soup was for today. Second he really did not seam to know the menu that well also. Third, to me it seams to me he took is sweet time to get back to our table. It looked to me he only wanted too take care of the people he knew. Two people had the London Broil platter , one had the turkey platter, and I had the pork chops. The people that had the London Broil platter said the meat was tough. Ate here on a Saturday night with three other people. Free wine with entree is a great deal. Free salad at the table would have been more appreciated if they kept their salad tongs clean. It had a lot of build up on the tong handle and it was laying on the salad. I was going to order the sliced steak sandwich but when the next table over raved about the Blackened Tuna, I had to order it. It was cooked great, made rare and it was juicy. It was covered in peppercorn so much that it ruined the taste. I barely finished the tuna. The linguini was covered with the peppercorns too and was barely edible as well. This place has an at home feel to it. Best hot open Turkey sandwich in town. You cannot beat their prices and the complementary Salad and Pitchers of beer make this a regular lunch spot. Small Parking lot in the back is a nightmare at times, I usually park on Merrick Road out front. The Bar inside is small and the beer selection is limited. The waiters & waitresses although usually nice tends to speak very loud, not sure what it is but I feel like I'm being yelled at when asked if I'm through with my food or when they are taking my order. Thinking of going in for a quick meal? Nope, wrong place. Lunch just took 3 hours with a really disinterested server. We thought he might have been going to a second job between serving courses. Very odd set up. People drinking alcohol got little pitchers of it but not Soda and no refill was offered. We were there a half hour before placing the order. Food came out about 40 minutes after that. Everyone who had the burgers enjoyed them, good onion rings. Mussels were good. Crab cakes more breadcrumbs than anything else. Broiled seafood had a lot of water on the plate as though frozen seafood was placed under the broiler. No flavor, except for baked clams. If you didn't look, you wouldn't have known what you were eating. Sides of linguine with white clam sauce had no flavor, even with salt and Parmesan added. Macaroni salad no taste, Cole slaw was inedible. After sitting with dirty dishes for a half hour, we were grudgingly offered dessert menus. Tartufo, fried cheesecake, mud pie and puffs got good reviews. Carrot cake and rice pudding were sweet but no specific taste. Sat almost a half hour, finally someone went on a search for our server so we could get the check. He had major attitude. I wouldn't return. There was some confusion with the check at the end because one person was paying by credit card. He reported to the manager that he was upset because the check was short by $2.00. We frequent this restaurant often, We have never had a bad meal. I like to have my meals Fra Diablo (extra spicy) They always make it so it is real spicy when asked for but not so the tongue gets burnt and you can't taste anything. My wife and I consider this our restaurant for birthdays anniversaries and just for a night out. It is very reasonable and includes drinks and salad with the meal. When we go most of the time we see the same customers that keep going back. I guess that means it is real good. read more

The corner galley is an iconic staple to the Massapequa area and has been around for several generations of families. The food is priced right and plates are big enough to be shared or take home some leftovers. Each night of the week you get different themes such as karaoke Wednesdays and trivia Thursdays, and live band Friday's. The burgers are huge and probably the only place you can still order medium rare burgers. The steak melts and chicken melts are probably the best. Just thought I would answer you. First of all after the girl showed us to a booth we asked for a table and she brought us to another booth?? Does that make senese? Also my husband did not have salmon he has never ordered salmon in his life and he said his dinner was mediocre .Secondly your server only asked us once if everything was alright how would he hear latetr on that the london broil was disgusting that doesnt make sense either does it!! My family and I eat here once a month and I stop in for a drink a few times a month. We've never been disappointed. It's not a fancy restaurant and it's far from gourmet food. But, it is quality food at a good price, and lots of it. Between the unlimited salad and the big portions, you will never leave hungry. The employees are friendly.
