After wanting to go to this spot for so long we finally made it in. We came in on a Tuesday and opted in for their taco Tuesday deal which came with rice and beans. The tacos and rice and beans were absolutely delicious. Before I started with my entree I got their gumbo. Hannah was working behind the bar and she was incredible, we asked for some hotter sauce and she got has habanero peppers in oil which was amazing. All of the food and the service was top notch here. We sat at the bar they have 2 small TVs so we watched a few highlights of games which was nice. This is the place to go to. The food is amazing, I got the Lucifer Wings and almost ended up eating the plate. Delicious. The staff is very welcoming and the ambiance is very up and jumpy. Parking sucks but once you find some, a good time is had by all. We caught a band that we truly enjoy and then learned that the harmonica player is from a band that we truly love ! That's right, King Kobra is rocking, but the player that we always seeup at Cooper Bluff & Sunset Tappan Beach is from Blue Roots. These folks are amazing, highly recommended. Really nice people, super friendly bartender that we remembered from our last visit. We thought that the Pig Out would be a really great choice to split, seeing that it has a little bit of everything. It was a real disappointment. Nothing like a stacked BBQ plate of meats that we have experienced, more like a little bit of scraps from each type of meat, the chicken being full of inedible fat, all drenched in sauce so that you could not tell the brisket from the chicken (maybe that was deliberate ?) Our waitress was lovely, but I asked her to tell the chef that I do not care for overcooked food...2 of the 4 ribs were incinerated to a burnt disastrously char, no meat and hidden under the other 2 fabulously prepared ribs. Such a shame, never again...will stick with something simple. Lisa E and I went to a local brewery at 4PM craving live music, only to be dissapointed. Seems the original band backed out and the replacement was coming at 7PM. While enjoying our comped beers, scrolling through social media noted that Big Daddy's had the King Cobras playing at 630! We had previously enjoyed the band in the same setting over a year ago, and I was only this years old when I realized the harmonica player is from another favorite band, Blue Roots! Made a reservation and off we went. When we arrived, I noticed seating to the right of the bar that would give us pretty much a front row seat for the music. Lisa was hesitant because it was not truly in the dining room, but acquiesced. So glad we did because we ended up staying for 3 hours, enjoying both sets. We also got to hang with family members and friends of the band, which made for an extremely intimate and enjoyable evening. We both started with sazeracs, which had too much ice to make it the classic that it is. We shared the barbecue plate, some of the meats a hit, some a miss. Pulled pork and brisket a little too fatty even for me , and of the 4 ribs, 2 were meaty and 2 kind of forlorn! Next time will choose more carefully, as previously enjoyed a grits dish and Lisa a salad with grilled shrimp. After dinner, a generous pour of Wild Turkey 101, sipped while swept up in the sounds! Wow a hole in the wall that's an absolute gem. Cajun based bar with some southern comfort. We did the taco Tuesday special tacos and margaritas. It was amazing! The rice and beans were a perfect pairing with it. They have a great devils hot sauce but we spoke with Hannah, who's great behind the bar, was able to get us habanero peppers in oil which were the perfect spice pairing. This place has an incredible vibe and ambiance. The moment you walk in, it feels like stepping onto the set of The Waterboy with all the Louisiana-inspired décor and details. It's been a long time since I've been to Big Daddy's. It always been the only go-to for great creole cooking. Unfortunately they've lost a step. A bit run down from what I remember. The gumbo was the only thing as I remembered, very good, but that's where it ended. The server did her best but she was totally overwhelmed. There's a really good chance she forgot to put in my order and then made excuses by blaming the chef. My St Charles pork chop took an hour and 30 minutes to come out. After waiting for about 40 minutes I asked where my order was. everyone in my party had their food and were finished.All She kept saying was, "I got you dear" and "It's coming, I spoke to the Chef the pork chop takes a long time to cook". Well that was bull because once it came out, it was barely warm and dry as could be, a $30 piece of cardboard. I told the server and no reaction, no apology, no nothing. Hurricane drink was just ok. Bring Tums with you just in case, even though not everything is spicy. But it is Cajun, so beware. I've seen grown men tear up here with some of the dishes. As a frequent visitor to NOLA, I was excited to find Big Daddy's not far from home. However, both times I have gone there with a reservation and have waited an hour for my table. To me this is unacceptable. Once, fine, things happen. But twice?? Nothing was done to make the situation better (free round of drinks or an app etc). Once seated (at a weird table by the door), the hostess basically threw our silverware and water glasses at us. The food and decor may reflect NOLA, but they are missing NOLA style hospitality. My husband and I went to Big Daddy's last night as we have regularly for about 15 years. The service is now horrible which is why we don't go as frequently as we used to, but I got a gift certificate for Mother's Day so we went. Service was slow as it's been lately but after ordering our 2nd round of drinks, we waited over 25 minutes for them. After 20 minutes we said forget it cancel them, then she came with them and said you want em or not? Since we sat there nearly a half hour with no food or drink we said yes and beneits (sp?) to go (which were ice cold when we opened them at home- they weren't heated up) At this point I put the gift certificate on the table to speed up the check out. She passed us by eyeing the certificate several times then finally came and said IDK what that is but my manager isn't gonna take it. I said it's a $100 gift certificate! The bill was $148 in total cash or $154 credit card. I said we came here because of this gift and I don't know what you're going to do here! I asked her to send the manager over to us. She kept going back and forth and shaking her head saying idk, he's not gonna take that and he's not coming. I was like we've been coming here for YEARS, she's like I know, I know I recognize you both. I said go get him and send him over. At that point we were at a stand still. Now she's ignoring us too. Then after a long while she came back and said I'm sorry but he's not gonna come over here. No reason, no explanation, no customer service, no loyalty. The statement was clear: we don't care about your business, we don't want your business, you as a customer means absolutely nothing to us and we don't really care if you ever come back. I guess they figure they do enough business without ours and we weren't worth the conversation or explanation. So, we came up with exactly $148 in cash and I will NEVER go there again. Neither will my family or friends who all frequent that place. My next call is the the BBB to try to get back the $100 that my son paid for the gift certificate. Shame on them! There was live music but we were sat in the other room so couldn't really hear it unfortunately. I got the special which was chargrilled oyster and a side of the habanero grits as my meal. The grist were a little dry this way but still super tasty and loved the oysters. We got the cookie butter beignets for dessert and they were AMAZING. I found places that don't know how to make burnts at all it's just ends up tuff and feeling like undercooked bris. Theirs was charred so good. Seasoned so well. And that sauce. Not a saucy food guy here but in my Jed Clampett voice WELL DOGGY , slap that over them grits and just give it to me. Everything in this dish. Worked together amazingly the beef the saucy the creamy grits. I'd. Eat this every darn week. Also my rum punch was strong and good loved it. I'm be honest though my oysters are what stopped big D from getting 5 stars. They weren't charred aka broiled enough. For me I like that golden to almost dark color and there was to much cheese and stuff. The oysters got lost in it. I'm going to roll two reviews into one. First time I had BD was two years prior. My sis was having her birthday celebration and got food career from them, but I didn't know till my first official visit after. But the gumbo has to be one of the best I've had in New York. We went to Big Daddy's for the first time and the food and service was great!!! What a great place. They have some really great Cajun specialties on the menu. We loved the food we had but the added bonus was the service. Our server Emily was an absolute doll. A breath of fresh air!!!She was super attentive and very helpful. We asked a lot of questions, which she was happy to answer with a smile on her face. We enjoyed our dinner very much and we will be going back there again. This was probably my fourth visit to Big Daddy's, and sadly it'll be my last. The first time I went, years back before COVID, it was a totally different experience -- good drinks, decent food, and service that was at least attentive. Over the last few years though, the quality has gone straight downhill. I've always liked my smoked meats dry with sauce on the side, but Big Daddy's seems determined to drown everything in the same barbecue sauce -- no matter if it's beef, pork, or chicken. It's one sauce fits all: a very vinegary, tangy mix that completely masks the flavor of the meat. I prefer a smoky, bourbon-style BBQ, but that option just doesn't exist here. Last night I ordered the burnt ends with grits. The portions of burnt ends have gotten smaller every visit, and the grits that used to be creamy are now bland and grainy. The gumbo was just okay -- nothing memorable. My entrée, "The Pig Out," was the biggest disappointment. The ribs were dry, the pulled pork was almost entirely fatty brown scraps with no real meat, and the chicken was semi-dry but at least edible. The andouille sausage was overcooked and tough, the cornbread was not edible. Overall, it's sad to see how much this place has declined. Big Daddy's used to have potential, but now it feels like they've stopped caring about quality altogether. I won't be back. read more

This is a bar and sit-down restaurant. Vibe is casual, laid back. It appears to be New Orleans themed as noted by some of the decor and cuisine available. Service was quick. Food was 10/10 except the crab cake Their crab cake to me was ok. I wish the outside was crisper. It did have flavor and was soft with a delicious remoulade and coleslaw to accompany it. Presentation excellent. I am on a quest to find the best wings in Long Island. This restaurant is the top contender. Their only downfall is having it available in just one flavor. It's just plain inconsiderate, really, lol. Anyways, the actual wings... they are slow smoked and covered in a Chipotle mango sauce. They are AMAZING. Meat is juicy, and it has that correct level of smoked that's not too charred but charred enough. The same goes for the ribs. The Asian cajun ribs were fall off the bone tender but still had that char that's essential. They were slightly salty, but the flavor was excellent as they were covered in a thai chili BBQ sauce. Louisiana-ish Big Daddy's has been around for quite some time and their angle has always been Louisiana style / Southern food. Eating Cajun outside of Louisiana has always been a dicey prospect and to be fair, Big Daddy's does it better than your typical outpost serving this type of cuisine. In the past, it seemed like it was always a contest to make the food the hottest they could, but that seems to have been dialed back on my most recent visit (I have not been there in over 10 years). The place still gets as busy as I remember it, so we went over early before the dinner rush and were able to score a table. Wait staff was super friendly and quick to welcome us - drinks showed up in short order and were well made. Gumbo was very good - we both had it so cannot talk about the other apps. I had my eye on the fried chicken but ultimately went with the pastrami po-boy. We also ordered the jumbalaya and sat back to enjoy the scene. The place is definitely decked out in New Orleans style kitsch. Jazz Fest Posters and other reminders of the party town adorn everything in the place. Blues and Cajun music are played in the background and the overall buzz is a little louder than average- so a good place to have a fun time. The mains came out and both portions were plentiful... I could only eat half my po'boy. It was ok - not the best and certainly not the worst version of a po'boy sandwich. Jumbalaya was spot-on and again, large enough for two people to eat. Prices are what prices are these days but at least you will get more than one meal out of whatever you order, unless you are exceptionally hangry. My boyfriend and I have been wanting our "fix" since visiting NOLA back in January. I mentioned this place to him a few weeks ago and this is where we found ourselves for dinner. After looking over the menu we decided on queso fundido and blackened gator for our appetizers. The queso fundido was delicious and the ritz crackers complimented it well. It was a little oily, but what do you expect with andouille sausage and cheese? Flavors were great and it was oooey, gooey and cheesy! Blackened gator was good as well, a little chewy but not terrible. It came with a spicy pineapple habanero sauce and some slaw. There were six pieces on a skewer. For my entree I got Billy Carter's Crawfish. It was crawfish in a spicy honey peanut sauce over rice. Think Cajun meets Thai. It was good and flavors were great. It tasted a lot better than it looked. My boyfriend got pasta jambalaya. It had andouille sausage, crawfish, smoked turkey and ham in a cajun Parmesan cream sauce. He enjoyed it. I tried it and it was yummy. Service was good! As we are eating we saw other tables being brought bread and butter when they sat down. What we got was a dead quiet restaurant with 2 grumpy workers. After learning there was no music we decided to stay. The server was mildly annoyed that we were upset about the no music thing. We were a party if 8. The drinks were great. The food was great as always. I even asked if they could at least change the station to some blues/jazz upbeat music. Request denied. It was easily accessible for my husband in a scooter. If it was a larger motorized wheel chair, I'm not sure it would have made the turn at the front door, so check that out or call before you arrive. It cost $6. The burnt end grits weren't burnt. Think the chef could've cooked it longer. Still, my boyfriend enjoyed the po boy sandwich. The cocktails weren't so tasty. It was okay.
