The owner was very pleasant and accommodating during my first visit. He explained everything clearly and is very passionate about his food. The portions were generous and the restaurant was nice and clean. This is a takeout establishment and there is parking. My photos below don't do this place justice. Joe at Bitterman's gives you so much food that, unless you're a bodybuilder, there's no way you're carrying it home without using both hands! I've eaten barbecue all over the country--from New York to Texas, including Austin and Houston--and I never expected some of the best BBQ I'd ever have to be right here in West Babylon on Long Island. Everything is smoked fresh twice a day: once for the lunch crowd and again for dinner. You can absolutely taste the difference. The ribs, pulled pork, and chicken are unbelievably tender, juicy, and packed with smoky flavor. The meat practically falls off the bone, with just the right amount of fat to keep every bite moist and flavorful. I also recommend the mashed potatos with beans on top, and the chili mac & cheese. Get the BBQ trifecta like I did and I promise you'll be glad you did. The cornbread deserves its own mention. It's incredibly moist and delicious. My favorite way to eat it is lightly toasted until it's golden brown with a generous spread of creamy butter, but it's fantastic straight out of the bag too. The BBQ sauce ties everything together perfectly. It has a rich, smoky flavor with just the right balance of sweetness and tang. It's so good that you'll find yourself putting it on everything without overpowering the meat itself. What really sets Bitterman's apart, though, is the value and the hospitality. Joe clearly takes pride in what he serves, and it shows in every tray that comes out of the kitchen. He is such a nice guy too! The portions are enormous (there was enough for tonight and tomorrows dinner with my wife), the quality is consistently outstanding, and you leave feeling like you got far more than you paid for (you can't say that about many other restaurants these days). This was some of the best BBQ we've ever had. The chicken was the so flavorful, the Mac and cheese was just the right amount of cheese and the cornbread was like candy deliciousness. He also gave us some baked beans to try which were out of this world. My husband had the pulled pork, bbq chili and Mac and cheese which were all amazing as well. My first time here, the place is small with a few tables and chairs.the owner was very friendly and courteous,he even explained how he got started . the menu is not that large but what he has was good. I ordered the Rib and pulled pork with baked beans and garlic potatoes and it was a big heaping plate that was really delicious, everything was cooked perfectly. I was craving BBQ and this place came up in my search. I ordered ribs (St Louis cut), a piece of cornbread and mac and cheese. The ribs looked so good, as did the mac and cheese and cornbread. These ribs were ginormous, definitely more than enough for one person, honestly they could feed three people (at least in my opinion lol). The ribs came with a cup of the house bbq sauce. The owner was so helpful and friendly as was the other staff there. I brought it home and as I mentioned (it's a lot of food). The ribs were perfect, and honestly the rub was so flavorful that the sauce wasn't really necessary. To me, they tasted like a mix of a Memphis style and KC style rib, a little tangy and sweet. Leaving a review on Yelp as I already gave 5 stars on Google a while back and there's no mechanism to add another amazing experience. To reiterate, Bitterman's is a hidden gem where the proprietor Joe is a serious barbeque afficianado with a keen craftsmanship approach to cooking spectacular BBQ. My wife picked us up some carryout last night which is their bread and butter (they have a few small tables almost like a deli inside). Holding with my previous experience the food was absolutely incredible. We lucked out going later towards close where Joe "loaded up" the BBQ where a tri-fecta turned into a quad-fecta LOL. The Mac and cheese was top notch and their cornbread always moist never dry with their signature pineapple flavor infusion. I won't even give this place one star the food was tasteless the chilli was tasteless the ribs and chicken was tasteless I was very disappointed when I reached my destination to eat after driving 25 miles to take out. They need to season the meat better and the ribs and chicken was not tender . Spectacular. That's all I could think as I was partaking in probably the best BBQ I've had in my life. For starters the owner clearly takes pride in his work, showing off everything he had to offer. I went for the Rib & Chicken platter with 2 sides of Mac and cheese and baked beans. I started with their ribs and holy heck. A prominent smoke ring with a peppery sweet rub on the outside, these were so good they didn't need the included BBQ sauce. Their chicken was also great, very smokey and tender, this one benefited from the BBQ sauce though. As for sides, not going to lie I was skeptical about their Mac and cheese but no, it's also legit. Homemade, cheesy, creamy and thankfully not dry! I had to get their baked beans because the garlic mash was being prepped but let me tell you it was no mere substitution. These beans are zingy, meaty, salty, sweet, and stand strong on their own. I had high expectations before coming, but wow. This place blew me away. Gladly my go-to BBQ joint on LI now. read more

I would not recommend Bitterman's. I called to place an order and the girl that answered said they don't take orders over the phone. I then drove 20 minutes to get there only to be told that at 6pm on a Friday night, they were out of chicken. The girl at the counter was not apologetic at all about not taking phone orders or running out of chicken - she should have at least mentioned that they were running low on chicken. How do you run a restaurant that does not take orders over the phone and then run out of chicken by 6pm on a Friday night. If i can give 0 stars I would. I wanted to mention before writing this review that I have a bias towards long island BBQ. After visiting other areas of the country I find Long Island BBQ to be wanting. That being said, Bitterman's surprised the hell out of me. Food: 5/5 - I visited just as they opened and I was worried that I would be getting reheated food from the night before. Buy Yowzie I was wrong! I ordered the rib platter with garlic mashed potatoes and coleslaw. It was amazing. The ribs were juicy and had a nice ring on them. The food was prepared expertly. They cut the ribs for me. You could tell the ribs were lightly coated in sauce while cooking but they added a side of very tasty sauce that pours on the ribs well. The garlic mashed potatoes were excellent. I even spotted pieces of garlic in them. The coleslaw was very flavorful. No digestion issues. The food was presented well in a rock solid container. Service: 5/5 - The person who helped me was friendly and I was helped right away. Ambiance: 3/5 - Not bad but this is not a restaurant. You can eat there on some tables, but mainly I would think it's a pickup place. Cleanliness 4/5 - No notable issues. Things were clean. Some places, like the serving area very clean. Did not visit restrooms. Parking 4/5 - There's a lot to the side of the place. It has an exit onto 109 and another exit to the neighborhood behind it. Value 4/5 - Okay this isn't cheap. I paid $24 even for the BBQ platter. Normally that would sink my rating for this. But the quality of the food was exceptional and the portion size was huge. I have some leftovers which I'm looking forward to. So I say, it's worth it. Overall 5/5 - Now I sit here in need of a belly rub. Happy and content. As I nod off, dreams of ribs dance in my head. Nice bbq addition to the neighborhood. We finally tried ordering takeaway from here and enjoyed the food. We love bbq ad have competed in pitmaster competitions in the past so appreciate a good slow smoked cook. Their baby back ribs were good and you can see the smoke ring. Our favorite though was the smoked chicken...excellently done! We'll be back for more chicken and will try the pulled pork next time. Also loved the corn bread!
