Valentine's Day, and management was very uptight. We came in for a desert and wine about a half hour before closing time. Another couple near us was there in the same time frame for a full dinner. We all got the bums rush. I ordered a second glass of wine and then was told it could not be served because they were closing--the waiter made a point of telling me it had already been poured, but the manager would not allow him to bring it to me. I spoke to her and she did serve it, but we got the check while we were still eating and the couple next to us had desert and the check served while they were still eating their entrees. Closing time is 9 pm! There's always side work to do and never a reason to treat well paying customers this way, especially on a romantic holiday. We enjoyed the atmosphere, but the food was not that great. We loved the idea of lobster mac 'n cheese, and the sign in front of the place said theirs is famous. I've had mind-blowing lobster mac 'n cheese, and was expecting theirs to be mind-blowing because, well, they claim it's famous and, you know, just look at the place! It sucked. There was no lobster flavor, and any actual pieces of lobster were so small, they were hidden by the cheese. I don't think you want to hide the key ingredient in a dish, or trick your customer by putting in an ingredient that might not be exactly what they assume it will be. After paying our steep bill, I was wishing we'd tried one of the other restaurants on the main drag. My vote had been for Thai Elephant down the street. read more

In an effort to support local we came here for lunch and ran into several mishaps that made the experience disappointing. We were looking forward to getting a draft beer but after being seated, learned that their fridge was down and draft beers were unavailable. The majority of their draft beers are local and some are even under the same ownership AND across the way in town. Though they expressed they couldn't get a technician to come out, I wonder what stopped them from grabbing palettes of the beers next door, or using their other establishments kegs. The bottled beer selection was odd so we opted for cocktails, mine was served in a glass with a crack going halfway down the side. The food was mediocre, a side was forgotten and at the end of the day we were bummed that we spent money on an experience that was less than pleasant. We understand restaurants are facing obstacles which is why we wanted to come out and support! Each of these hiccups were simple, but frustrating in accumulation. If I'm not at The Spot with my friends, I'm here with my wife. The atmosphere is casual because the staff makes you feel at home. It could easily feel stuffy but they are so friendly I feel like I'm a guest at their house. The beer and wines are great, the panini's are awesome, but the Guinness onion rings are the best. First visit to this little place, and my girlfriend and I had a great time. My girlfriend loves a great glass of wine and was not disappointed. However, I do not drink, so I cannot comment on the wine. We spilt a cheese platter, which was awesome, and then I had a very great seared ahi salad. My girlfriend had one of the salads with grilled salmon, and I was very impressed with how they cooked the salmon. We sat out on the patio. We ordered Parmesan cheese truffle fries, onion rings & lobster Mac & cheese as starters. All were fab. The onion rings were the group fav. My BF had the flank steak. It arrived overcooked. Our waitress quickly had it fixed. I had the chicken not so cordon blue. It was excellent. Our friends had a salmon burger that was a fillet rather than ground salmon. Friend said it was terrific. Other friend had the grilled romaine with steak on the side. Everyone said they would eat there again. read more

The only reason we are giving two stars is because of the wonderful way we were greeted and their wine selection. It ends there. The food is one star. We were returning to LA after a day of wine tasting in Santa Barbara. The traffic was heavy so we decided to stop in Carpinteria to wait out the traffic and found this place on Yelp. We were very hungry and decided to do the "Tapas" route and our very nice server Lexi agreed. We ordered the onion rings, artichoke dip, the "pizza" ...LOL,the satay chicken and the Lobster mac & cheese. She opined and we agreed that she should bring the dishes one at a time for a better experience. Well ...surprise!!! they all came at once. The first there was the onion rings, looked interesting with the stripes but were not salted, after removing from fryer, too breaded and tasteless we didn't eat much of it; the artichoke dip was covered in a glob of cheese and served with a few chips and sliced french bread in various stages of evolution crisp, crisp on one side and raw. The dip wasn't bad, after removing the cheese, but things were on the way down. When we asked Lexi to explain the crust she said that it was pita like, well it was like pita wet sponge bread. The topping was good only after scraping it off and eating a warm caprese salad, leaving the wet pita slices on the plate. The chicken Satay was dry and over cooked. The lobster mac was very good but at this point who cared. The kitchen had a pizza press machine visible next to the rest room made for restaurants that are unable our unwilling, to hand form the crust ....but pita bread??Really??. Also we were never presented the wine list or advised of the specials. They served the cafe presse with all the dirty dishes still on the table. The bus boy was the only one who asked how the food was. When we told him.......he was a deer in the headlights. They need adult supervision and professional kitchen staff. They need the same passion for food that they have for wine. read more

One of the few restaurants we enjoy. They have a good selection to choose from on the menu. The food is always good. I would have given them 4 stars but the last handful of times we dined here the wait for service was shockingly long. Not sure if there was a transition period with wait staff leaving (it seems like there's only 2 maybe 3 waiters). If we go we order our drinks and appetizer the first time the waiter greets. That would be my suggestion if you have a some sort of time constraint. We enjoy their burgers, salads, fish tacos, chicken sandwich and steak frites! read more

I went to cork tree for the first time on Friday while visiting from san diego and what a pleasant surprise! The lobster Mac n cheese is simply amazing! Probably the best I've ever had. We also ordered the carnitas flatbread and pulled pork po boy with truffle fries. I have to admit I was a bit nervous with all the variety on the menu but everything was delicious!! This place would've gotten 5 stars but for some reason they let 3 kids under 8 run-full speed back & forth almost hitting waitresses, screaming at the top of their lungs. This place has exceptional food & wine-it's a wine bar-flights & all; wagu beef! Fantastic!!! So why would they allow all these wonderful things to be forgotten bc they don't tell parents (who are obviously drunk) to control their kids. 4 other couples by us all complained-this is not McDonalds. I got to the Corktree on a recommendation from a friend in San Diego and it was spot on. I started with a salad with fresh field greens, tart apples, cherries, creamy goat cheese and balsamic vinaigrette, which balanced nicely. The small plate of lobster mac n cheese had a cheesy crust and rich creamy goodness inside. The three pigs entrée was good but I thought there would be more spice or heat so that was a surprise. Still it was a solid effort and how could I not love a dish with slow cooked Spanish peppers with Roast Pork, Prosciutto, and Chorizo. Similar to Ella B.'s review, I also wanted to hold a gathering for a group of about 25 people. The management never got back to me on making the reservation, so I called back 4 days later. The manager seemed a little rushed when she answered the phone, but rushed quickly turned into rude. I work in the service industry, and I would lose my job if I ever spoke to a potential customer the way she spoke to me. The first manager I spoke to informed me that they would enforce a $50 minimum per person to book the reservation. I thought this was a little odd since an entree and a flight of wine is only around $30, but I figured they had their reasons. When I spoke to the other manager, she basically told me that I shouldn't have my party there, but if I still wanted to, she would have to charge at least $80 per person plus tax and gratuity. She also said that if we were to hold our party there, that it could only be outside and continued to discourage me from making a reservation. Needless to say, by the end of our conversation I did not even want to visit their restaurant anymore. It's a shame really, it looks like it would be a fun and lovely atmosphere. TL;DR: One star for service, can't comment on food, since management doesn't want us to eat here. read more

Too bad atmosphere isnt everything.Ever since I moved to Carp, Corktree has been on my list of cool looking eatery's Ive wanted to try. Finally took a chance and tried it out one afternoon. I sat at the bar with an empty stomach ready to try some of the interesting creations the menu had to offer. Sadly I left disappointed. I tried the lobster mac n cheese and the truffle fries...both were underwhelming. The lobster in the mac n cheese tasted like that packaged imitation stuff you find vacuum sealed at grocery stores and no prominent flavors stood out except for the parmesean crust. The fries were ok, the deeper into the basket you ate the better the flavor of the truffle oil came out. Then I got the So Cal Ahi Tuna salad and I have to admit it was the poorest quality salad I have ever had!! Its obvious this place does not prep out most of their proteins rather they purchased the readymade garbage from a distributor. The tuna was AWFUL! The greens were dingy and unwashed, the won tons were stale and they literally put three drops of sesame dressing on. Flat out I didnt receive what I paid for and left unsatisfied and overcharged. I cannot recommend this place for eating. If you wanna a decent place to have a drink or two Id say go to Island Brew, The Palms or even Nutbelly. My wife and I have been going here for years but something has changed. The last two times we have gone we have had a bad experience. Went there on Sunday and experienced the worst service ever ordered a flight of wine and a beer along with a cheese plate the cheese plate came and the drinks were nowhere to be found but the guy behind the bar had no problem serving the blond he was flirting with. We had to ask for utensils and when we started to order dinner we found out that the Cordon Blue is no longer available even tho it is still on the menu this is at least the 2nd time it has been taken off the menu. When we told our waitress we were disappointed that the cordon blue was not available she said "I don't control the menu" we decided to eat dinner somewhere else. Hopefully it will be back to normal we will try it again next time we are in town.. read more

We went there for Valentines Day dinner and it was nice to get in without at wait at 7:15pm. We ordered the artichoke appetizer with bread and chips and it was very good and a generous portion. Before we ordered I asked for a taste of the Corn Chowder soup and that came lukewarm and I mentioned it to our waitress told her I'd like a cup of soup but that the taste was not warm. I ordered the Corn Chowder soup and had to send it back because it wasn't warm. Once heated it was good and I would order it again. My boyfriend got a house salad which was good and the mushroom risotto which was a good size portion and was very good. We ended up taking 1/2 of the risotto home.
