Just got home....went for happy hour, we are not close to happy. Server was young, took our 2 orders, only 2 of the 2 were wrong. Not sure if it was his fault or lack of concern from the cook. My wife and I stopped in to grab an appetizer before our reservation was ready down the street. My husband and I recently went to Corktree to listen to the band playing. We each had one drink, paid our tab (they rarely give you the customer copy when paying there). This time, I took a photo, and when it cleared our bank account, I noticed that they had increased the tip amount (I always tip at least 20%). I've brushed off similar incidents in the past because I didn't have my customer copy receipt as proof, and it's usually a small amount. But let's be clear: This is not about the money! This is unethical, and they should ensure that the customer is getting charged the exact amount they wrote on the receipt. This seems like a blatant attempt to overcharge their customers. This is my first updated review so strap in, hold your breath and trust the Real MacGyver. This place was historically bad when I used to live here. Now under new management it has made massive improvements. Updated menu with decent mahi mahi tacos and buffalo wings. They also improved their fry recipe so they are crispy and salty. That seems to be where they stopped. The restaurant is absurdly dirty. Floors are sticky, tables don't seem to be wiped down consistently, and they have a bunch of cloth/pillow furniture with staining. Im talking about pillows and cloth covered chairs that haven't been cleaned in twenty years like airline or bus seats. Things that just attract and suck up dirt, human flecks and sweat. Please remove these items, half of your restaurant looks like someone went running all day and left a back or butt stain. 2.1/5 stars, much improved. It was our first time here and we were so impressed! They have happy hour every day from 2:30 to 5 pm and we happened to be there at that time, which was awesome. We started with a cheese platter and the spinach artichoke dip and happy hour portion of the lobster Mac and cheese. Everything was so delicious! We then shared shrimp tacos, fries and burgers. Hello. I'm a local resident here in Carpinteria. I've heard some mixed reviews over the past couple of years about this restaurant/bar. I had never been, so I decided to go in with an open mind and try it out. The first time I went, the place fairly busy. The service was as good as could be, especially since they were busy. The server was polite, and friendly. I went back about 3 to 4 more times over the past year, one of the experiences was good, while the others were not so good. We sat at the bar, and the owner was just not that nice to us. I noticed she treated some of the patrons friendly, I can only assume they were her friends or people she knows. I know people could be having a bad day but you have to suck it up and put your service face on when running a restaurant/bar business. The owner was very snippy and condescending. How does one want to have a successful business in such a small community, with a bad attitude. We tried a couple of times to give it a shot, but we won't be back. I tried to ignore the things I heard about other people's experiences, but they were right. I really wish Corktree well. read more
