Went there twice. Kitchen closed twice. First time hubby and I were meeting with another couple for Sunday lunch (Fall 2018). We arrived at around noon ahead of our friends so we took a table and ordered a drink and asked for menus. We were handed the menu and told that the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes because the cook had to go home for some issue with his/her house (on the lines of an issue with plumbing, furnace, the like). We were quite shocked that a restaurant would not call someone else in if the person who was scheduled to work that day couldn't make it. Looked at the menu and it was NOTHING like the menu posted on line. When I asked about this, i was told they didn't have the password to change their website..... Needless to say we called our friends and met elsewhere for lunch. Second visit...Friday before St. Patrick's Day. We thought to give this place another try. Hubby and I stopped in for dinner around 6:30. We were told the kitchen was closed (again!!??) because the cooks had been preparing for tomorrow's St. Patty's day and they were tired and going home. I had a special event at Corkscrew Pointe, and although we spent good money to rent the space out, the treatment we received was disappointing. We did a wine tasting for about 25 people, and the owner was quite unfriendly. He spent his time standing near the wine dispenser making snide condescending remarks to my guests. At the end of our event he made us to feel like we were being practically thrown out, because he had to get somewhere for dinner. They do have decent martini specials, had a $5 Pomegranate Cosmo on a Friday night, but their food menu was insanely small. We went in about 2 years ago with another couple for 1/2 price Prime Rib. The waitress was basically interrogating us about how we saw this ad for 1/2 price, like it was a secret code. Finally we said the right thing after 5 minutes. We get our Prime Rib and its really tough. After all that! We had a "Taste of McHenry" on June 7th. This place had Mini pulled pork sandwiches. Again we were with the same couple (Prime Rib story) We went up to the bar and my friend ordered a Bloody Mary, it was the same waitress, she rolled her eyes and said something. My girlfriend and I looked at each other and said "forget this place" and we all walked out! What a shame it looks like they made improvements, I was impressed when I walked in. The Corkscrew is a great place to go. Yes, sometimes they are slammed but all the staff including Jill and the owner John both try their best to make sure everyone has a great time. We just saw Dueling Pianos a few weeks ago which was great and I know they are coming back again in later April. All in All, a great neighborhood bar!!! One of my favorite places!!! Worst experience ever! This was my second visit, really liked the piano bar but service was horrible. The owner was yelling at the waitress about our bill and pointing his fingers in her face. Given the wrong bill twice and asked to pay an amount that was not correct. Owner slammed down the bill after we disputed the amount and told us next time we pay for our drinks. I loved the idea of what this "wine bar" was supposed to be when it opened. But it's turned into nothing but a gathering place for local drunks. The bartenders are incredibly rude, Randy the "karaoke" guy is a complete jacka**, only to be topped off by a drunk and uncaring owner that you can usually find sitting at the end of the bar, totally accepting and making excuses for bad service and rude staff while sucking down another drink. I've tried to enjoy evenings with friends there over and over... always to be disappointed and to have the night ruined by another bad experience. Every unnecessary bar fight and unhappy customer is a direct result of bad management. Don't waste your time... this place is awful! read more

I will never go back here. Not only was the wine miserable but the owner was totally rude to us because we were not there for dinner. We only wanted drinks and appetizers, but he never gave us a chance to order an appetizer. When we tried to order a second glass of wine, we were abrubtly informed that we would not get any more wine without ordering dinner. When I asked why, he seemed to be angry. If this is their policy, it should be disclosed on the menu or when we first got there. It was a total shock to us. The guy simply must not want the business. After the experience last night and reading these posts, it seems that customers just annoy him. He is in the wrong business. He has lost some potential business by treating us this way. Stopped in last Sunday to a complete mess. The bartender- who was drinking behind the bar- was (obviously) giving horrible service and was awful to all her guests, starting fights and yelling at everyone. She was being so belligerent and kept drinking till she passed out drunk in the kitchen!!! The Emts were called and another bartender came in to relieve her...came in again later in the week to see what was up.. and she still works here!!! Was there today for the "taste of summer" in Mchenry. I was most excited for this of all places because they were doing Bloody Mary shooters and I love bloody Mary's. I had honestly been looking forward to checking this place out for weeks. So we walk inside and a lady was handing out coupons for but one get one free mega bloody Mary's for a future visit and I felt like I was in heaven! I was so excited. So we order our drinks plus the Bloody Mary shooters and the bartenders were quite friendly and gave us a receipt to take to the window and get the bloody Mary's. So my parents went elsewhere and me and my boyfriend went around to get the shooters. The woman serving the Bloody Mary shooters was awful. She was rude, snippy, and not helpful at all. They had giant pickles and my boyfriend asked how we could get one and she said "they're just $1" and he said "okay good to know. So it's a choice between celery and shrimp?" Because that's what he had heard previous customers say. The woman looked at him as if he had three heads and snapped "what did I just say? It's a $1 for a pickle and it won't even fit in your glass" and my boyfriend goes "I'm not talking about the pickle, I'm asking if I have a choice between celery and shrimp" and she rolled her eyes and snapped "yeah". So we get our bloody Mary's and head outside to find my parents. Note: everyone and their sister was standing outside drinking some form of alcoholic beverage. So we're standing there and a man (who I'm assuming is the manager) comes up and snatches my drink from my hands and goes "you can't drink outside and I'm not about to lose my job because you guys don't know how to follow the rules" then takes my dads and boyfriends drinks. He then walks back inside with our drinks and a few people who had witnessed all of that (who were drinking) commented on how rude that was and couldn't believe that just happened. First of all, we obviously did not know that. We would've happily went inside and finished our drinks if he had just explained that to us. Secondly, what about all of the other people outside drinking? Overall, the place I was most excited to check out was ultimately ruined by rude employees and horrible customer service. Before all of that happened, we had planned on going in next Sunday for bloody Mary's and using our coupons. We ripped up the coupons and will never be back. read more

This place is AWFUL!! After being warned not to go here by friends, I decided to try it anyway with a very open mind. I love wine and am always looking for a place to relax and enjoy a few glasses, but after my recent experience I will NEVER go back!!!!! The owner was incredibly rude, and made us feel really uncomfortable. We were the only people in there, so you'd think he'd be a little friendlier, but he was awful. He made some incredibly rude comments to me and the people I was with, which is completely unacceptable! I also would not consider myself a "wine snob", however his "wine list" was terrible. He provided cheap tasting wine and the list was very small. There was no price range, all wines were priced the same, so if you wanted a nice tasting wine it was not an option. And at $7.00 a glass, it's a little ridiculous to pay for BAD wine! Another thing I don't understand is his concept. It's like they're trying to do a million different things in one place. It's called corkscrew pointe, yet the wine list is terrible, the owner was not knowledgeable, and the list of martinis and micro brews were way larger than anything else. It's also decorated poorly with fat chefs all over, which contradicts the "wine atmosphere" even more. This place is a total mess! I wouldn't recommend this place to someone I hated!!! Before I tried it I was also warned by friends about the owner's attitude, and by other comments on here it seems like that's a common occurrence! I'm not sure why someone with such hatred for people would go through the trouble of not only owning a "wine bar" but also working in it! Do yourself a favor and if you're looking for an AMAZING place to hang out and actually be educated on wine, go a little further north to Lake Geneva and visit Pop More Corks! Three of us came in for bloody Mary's. After about a half hour two of them arrived. After an hour of being here our third Bloody Mary finally arrived, but it was missing the shrimp, pickle, and burger. And our chicken was clearly ripped in half. We didn't get beer chasers and there was only one bartender working for the entire place. Four people who came in after us were served before us. We understand service will be slow because of being understaffed but we would have expected our bloody Mary's to be accurate when they finally arrived after an hour considering there were multiple people working on bloody's in the back. read more

We went there for the first time yesterday. It is super cute inside with a very welcoming feel. The menu is limited but very good - mostly sandwiches and sides. The manager/employee working the restaurant and bar was friendly, accommodating and funny. I had a turkey sandwich with brie and cranberry sauce - absolutely delish and very, very filling. My husband had a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and fries which he thoroughly enjoyed. There was one couple just finishing up when we arrived and a guy came into the bar as we were leaving, otherwise we were the only ones in the place. I hope they regularly have more business than this. The reason for 3 stars and not 5 is that no one wore masks. Covid is NOT over and they should have been masked. Not the manager and not the woman in the kitchen and not the guy who came in as we were finishing up. I would have insisted they mask up or we could have left but we have both been vaccinated and kept our masks on except when eating. The sandwiches are priced really low for the quality that you get. I think mine was around $6 for a huge sandwich loaded with meat. I will go back again for sure but I hope to see the employees and other patrons wearing masks. read more

We had our first lunch at Corkscrew Pointe and this review is a mixed bag. First off, we ordered Ice Tea. My Ice Tea was good because it was recently brewed where my wife's Ice Tea tasted stale. We each order a sandwich. I ordered the Muffaletta sandwich which was very good. It had great flavors and was large enough that two people could have split an order. I ordered the mini salad as my side with balsamic dressing and it tasted like just vinegar. My wife ordered the Blackened Snapper with Chipotle Mayo. She thought it tasted pretty good but it was undercooked. She ate around the undercooked area and explained to our waiter what had happened. He offered to take it off the bill but we told him it was O.K because she ate most of it. I would give them another chance because we have enjoyed our wine purchases at this location and like the decor. read more

Heard great things about the bloody Mary's here, so my friend and I decided to give them a try. The bartender was rude and didn't explain their process of getting the drinks(why again is there some kind of ticket system for drinks) and then became frustrated when we didn't know. After 20 minutes of waiting for our drinks, and not explanation of why it was taking so long or if we wanted water, we finally got them. (with a rude comment) the bloody Mary's werent bad, i liked the food that came in it! Unfortunately because of our awful customer service I will never be back. Stopped in for a quick bite to eat and a drink. Not much selection on the menu. I chose the brat which is actually ground bratwurst meat cooked like a burger and served in a bun. This came with sliced, fried potatoes as a side. At first bite, the brat sandwich tasted ok. The potatoes were soggy, not fried crisp; something I would have made as a kid. As I was boxing up the leftovers I noticed (in the very dark bar) that the brat patty was raw! Not having enough time to complain, also knowing I wouldn't be back, I asked for the check. The raw brat sandwich was $12 when the menu showed it was $8.99. I just paid and left due to time constraints. Bartender was nice, albeit pokey, drinks were bottled. Food was THE WORST! This is a fun place and very unique - really nothing else like it in McHenry. The front room has tables and wait service, and is not that loud. The food and service has always been very good, although the menu is very limited. Portions are inconsistent; some sandwiches can be a meal for two, other entries are rather minimal. The larger back room has a bar and is where the entertainment plays. It's pretty loud in that room, bar service has alwasy been good for us there. We've never had dinner in that room, just go for drinks and entertainment. read more

Met up with some family and this was the place that was chosen. Kinda small, the service was excellent!!! The food was really good too. They even offered us food that isn't on the menu which was also good. They are revamping the menu right now. The prices were really cheap !! All their sauces are make from scratch and in house. I have been to Corkscrew Pointe before and had a nice night. So when some of my college friends were meeting up for a Sunday lunch/Bears game I thought it would be a great place to bring them - Especially with the new giant bloody mary. Well, my boyfriend and I got there about noon and were constantly asked by the waitress if we were ready to order - seriously like every 3 minutes. I told her each time we were waiting for 3 other people and then we would order. Well, when the other people arrived she was no where to be found! When she finally came over, about 45 mintues later, we all ordered a bloody mary. Now these are being made at a separate table we walked passed when we were seated. Basically, they should have taken no more than 5 or 10, maybe 15 minutes if we're being generous, to be brought to us. It took over an hour and we had to ask about them - twice. She clearly forgot about us. We also ordered a few other sliders and a pizza after we were served - she forgot those too and we had to remind her. No wonder because she was cleared HAMMERED DRUNK before halftime. She barely made coherent words and almost brought us additional sliders after we had already been served (we had to tell her not to) Not to mentioned knocked over a beer and just set it up right (empty) and never brought a new one. The bloody mary was great when we finally got it. And the little sliders were really good! It was a shame the service was so horrible. On a plus they did do squares and give a really nice jersey to the winner. Maybe we'll give it another try but I felt bad for my friends from out of town that didn't know this place isn't always like this! Went this morning to get a Bloody Mary and mimosa with my boyfriend and some friends, immediately as we walk in this lady (who I presumed was a waitress) asks us what we would like to drink..she then comes back with a receipt and says please go over there and hand her (bartender) these receipts to let her know where we are sitting. After waiting 45 minutes, she (presumed waitress) brings us beer chasers for our Bloody Mary's. 45 minutes after that she brings the table that got there after us, Blood Mary's and mimosas. So my boyfriend goes over and asks where their at with making ours, she says 5 minutes. So 10 mins or so later she brings over all the Bloody Mary's and forgets the mimosa. So after going up to waitress she says another 15 minutes bcuz mimosas are made differently by the kitchen. So almost 2 hours later and I finally get my mimosa. Mimosa was good except for toppings compared to the blood Mary. Which my boyfriend said was decent but not worth waiting 2 or so hours for. Checking out was a disaster as well, this place needs some organization and time management skills if they are trying to compete with other Bloody Mary specials around town. Service sucked. So if you want to spend half of Sunday morning sitting on a bar stool people watching this is ur place, if u want a drink...find another bar. read more
