Was seated and noise from the voice in the bar was a constant loud. Three tables around us and was booming like a microphone overpowering atmosphere. They moved us at our request quickly and discreetly. Food order was taken wrong. Ordered 14oz ribeye steak med rare, spouse ordered small prime rib med well. They got mixed up and spouse got a small ribeye and i got a prime rib.I brought to the servers attention after maybe 10 minutes for that is when she checked back. Manager comes over and explains that they are both prime ribeye. I said i am aware what the cuts are and it is not prepared as menu states then she scolded me and blamed me for the mistake. I am a chef by profession and know what I ordered and how it is traditionally made. The menu states also ribeye is grilled (what I wanted) Not only was she rude but she was wearing vinyl gloves both times she came to the table. I cant believe I was scolded for the error. She came back and knew it was handled bad and apologized. But anniversary dinner was pretty much not as planned. Why would you talk to a guest in your restaurant this way is just mind boggling. read more

Excellent restaurant and service! This was my first trip but it won't be my last! Appetizer of smoked salmon with creamy dill sauce was a nice starter. Generous pieces of chilled salmon to place on top of crackers with the dill sauce! Soup was a Baked French Onion and I could have stopped there completely satisfied but I also got the 7oz filet...took some home! Everything was done well and the service was prompt and courteous! Visited on Feb 27th 2021 for the first time in several years and the ambiance is the same, a nice warm and inviting setting. Server was prompt and had drinks and apps to the table very quickly. Main dishes took longer than I would have expected with no apologies and a few of the meals were luke warm. one dish was returned to the kitchen to be warmed and returned. The 8oz ribeye that I ordered was asked to be prepared to med rare was rare and cool to temp. Very poor cut as there was more fat and gristle than actual muscle and not seasoned well at all. When I do take friends and family out I would rather not visit chain establishments, but somewhere local. This local place was subpar to say the least on food. Our reservation was at 8 pm. We ate here New Years Eve. they had a certain menu to choose from, and the menu choices were mostly seafood, which we don't eat at all. The free glass of champagne we were told could not be brought until the end of the meal just to get you to buy drinks. So next was the "appetizers" for the four of us. It was on a bed of kale and there was 2 baby carrots, 3 townhouse crackers, 2 tiny pieces of salmon and 2 shrimp. It was PATHETIC. We kept saying to each other "This can't be it". after that, I ordered one of the few choices on the menu that wasn't seafood. my steak was what $59.95. Ok I was fine pa that but again the apps were awful. We were 3/4 done with our meal, and the waitress told us we better hurry up and get the dessert bar because they were closing it down! They were literally taking all the desserts off, so we got to pick very few. Who does that ? We were rushed the whole time Then our waitress switched out With someone else. The salad bar and bread is great. They used to have a pink sauce that was the best but they stopped serving it after covid not sure why. The service was friendly and the ambiance nice and quiet. We used to really enjoy this restaurant and went again after about a year. The drinks were good and it was all downhill after that. Salads come with tiny containers of onions, tomatoes (gross ones), and ranch dressing (no other options available) that you empty onto your lettuce. I like their appetizer choices and prices, and the ambience is warm & quaint. I haven't been as impressed with the regular menu food. For the prices you pay, I think you could get better food at Doolittles. I like that this restaurant has a long history if Fargo and is one of the few options in this part of town - but it is not something I will think about going to very often. I believe they have their regulars so that could mean my experiences weren't great or those regulars are just creatures of habit or comfort. If you are just looking for apps and drinks, then I would say give it a try. Adding another comment here after another visit. We visited this time with strictly apps and drinks on our mind. I went in a medium size group. There were 8 of us in all celebrating the grandmas birthday. The service was nothing to write home about. The server was friendly, but it was a little delayed on delivering of any drinks or water. They have a great salad bar that comes in conjunction with most meals. It is a little dark however and the salad bar is oddly low (and I am not exactly blessed in the height department). I ordered the prime rib. I think that is where this place is at! Get there so you an get in on this. It is FANTASTIC! Best prime rib that I have ever had! The side options are pretty boring. I tried the wild rice and it tasted like a boxed rice side so I wasn't a fan, but who cares about the side when you are loving on the prime rib. I would easily go back for that! read more

Doesn't seem like Fargo has a bunch of upscale places. This place seems a bit confusing. Very dim lighting, almost too dark, but looks fairly casual from the outside. Walked in for an early dinner, but was in my scrubs. I mean, it was dark, and I was hungry. They seemed to have a bit of an attitude in general. Not very friendly host and just not very friendly service. I am not sure if my ettire had anything to do with it, but there were people dressed very casual. Ordered the Prime Rib dinner. Too dark for a picture, but I could tell it was overcooked. I ordered it rare, as usual, but looked and tasted closer to medium well. I really had no time or desire, or lights for that matter to discuss it. I was also starving and it was almost time for work. I quickly ate my food and that was that. Took a while to bring the check, but for some reason the manager brought it. I am not sure if my server was just too busy or was just done with me. Overall, maybe it was just a bad night. I think 1.5, rounding up to 2 is pretty fair. I wasn't dressed nicer and was in a bit of a rush. They need to pay closer attention to guests and execution nonetheless. Especially if you are going for a higher price point, at $35 for a prime rib. Not a place I could reccomend. read more

If I could rate this as 'Zero' stars I would. Ate here last night for the third time in the past few years, thinking it had to have just been off-nights for the cook and staff. Well, I was wrong. Ribs fall off the bone, BBQ sauce is good but flavor is non-existent. Baked potato was terrible. Girlfriend orders the soup with "fresh" cornbread. Well, it made fresh croutons for sure. Hard. As. A. Rock. And they still served it to her! Her entree is the Blackened Salmon...it shows up un-blackened so she shyly asks if this actually is the blackened salmon on the menu...the waitress doesn't even know without asking manager. What happens next is the "best" part of the meal...she arrives with blackened seasoning from the back saying the cook forgot to put this on after her cooked it. Well, come on, don't insult us. Blackened seasoning goes on before it's cooked, not as a dipping spice. Save your $100 to eat here and have a few drinks. Much better options in town. *I'm not much for complaining but three below average experiences and the side of blackened seasoning was too much to not write this post. I'm sure it's a privately owned establishment as well which makes it harder but for the prices you need to provide a much, much better experience. read more

A down spiral battle... The Cork and Cleaver was THE place for a great steak in Fargo, ND...but that was when I was younger. Unfortunately, the last 5 experiences I have had there keep going downhill. Unorganized. That is the only thing can be said for the last few members of their wait staff I have interacted with. 20 minutes after being seated, a waitress stops by to take my dinner order...but "can't help you" with the fact that I don't even have a glass of water, let alone a real drink in front of me. When I ask for my steak done to a nice medium, it should not arrive at my table with a brownish grey color. I can't remember the last time I had a steak that was done to my asking, usually overdone. The thing that keeps this place from a single star rating is the salad bar and French Onion Soup. Both are outstanding. The salad bar has some excellent veggies on it along with some interesting noodle dishes. Always fresh tasting and comes with many of the menu items. The French Onion soup is delicious and a great way to warm up on a cold night. Lastly, I will continue going there for the lavash. It is a signature appetizer and is wonderful. Maybe head over to the Cork and Cleaver for some wine and a classy starter...but not much else. read more

Not knowing what to expect since it's been at least 10 years from the last time I've dined here, I was very disappointed. Highlights of the meal were the service and cocktails. Everyone was very friendly and attentive, the martinis were good albeit a little weak for my taste, but the food was beyond help. I had the teriyaki shrimp, but the plate in front if me was a pile of overcooked wild rice with sautéed veggies and shrimp drenched in butter. No teriyaki flavor and the plate was covered in grease. The food Was ok. The prime rib cuts were not as tender as we prefer and abundance of fat on each piece was too much. I almost hate to draw public attention to the Cork because I selfishly want to keep it all to myself and close friends. Maintaining the classic supper club approach to dining, the menu is primarily steak with some seafood options, and it gets it right. The entrees are thoughtful despite their simplicity and abundant with natural flavor. The salad bar, while not extensive, is the very best in Fargo. The dressings alone will leave a lasting impression. For something lighter, drinks and appetizers in the lounge are phenomenal. Stuffed mushrooms, fried shrimp, spinach and artichoke dip, smoked salmon ... the list goes on and on and you can't order wrong! The happy hour special makes the options feel like a steal. To top it off, the staff will be your friends before your stay has concluded. It is a warm, welcoming environment literally and figuratively with indoor fireplaces and a cozy relaxed ambiance. Overall terrible, food had minimal or no flavor and was overpriced for what you get with that lack of flavor. Service was probably 3 stars...it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible, there are separate food and beverage servers and most of the table was drinking water and the beverage server didn't want to leave a water pitcher but didn't come by often enough to keep out glasses from getting empty. The salad bar was pretty barren in the middle of the dinner hours (one might think that's the best time to keep an eye on it). On the bright side the dessert was great. read more

A veggie platter for appetizer should amount to more then a bowl with some veggies off the salad bar and a bowl of ranch propped on top. Ordered Ribeye med with rice and rice was dry as was the steak and overcooked. We had a party of 10 and our cocktail server was outstanding, loved her! Our waiter brought our meals out two by two w/out stopping to ask until all were out if we needed steak sauce or butter etc so some of us were halfway through our meals before others started. Very disappointing visit. Watched the waitress tell our waiter in the mirror with a frown that "they're paying separate over there". New Years Eve Dinner. Limited Menu was advertised which is fine but limited everything else was not acceptable. We had a reservation for 6 and the service keep bringing orders to the table as if we were a table of 4. They took are drink order forgot 2 drinks and then told us we would have to wait while they help the 2 other tables that arrived after us. This would be the theme of the night. Ordered OJ for my son without ice, always brought it with ice and then blamed the bartender. The appetizers were include with the meal and we had only one option, sea food. We were served for only people again but not everyone in our party can eat sea food. We had salads with only a choice of ranch or Cesar dressing. So much for allergies and no dairy. How does a restaurant that prides itself on its salad bar only have 2 dressing choices? The main order was 4 filet mignon and walleye. The filet was tuff and full of tendons. The filets were bad enough that A1 was requested. The other part of the meal was the service. They were pushy to the point of taking plates away from the table before the person was finished. The dessert table was the caliber of a high school bake sale. They did have an hour an a half limit per table but they sure were not concerned about that when we waited 10 minutes for our drinks and then another 15 because they only brought part of the order. In summary the Cork and Clever are known for good food and service going back to the 80s and they have fallen hard from that standard! The waitress was tipped 20% because it was New Years and we saw her maybe 5 times including when she quickly snatched the check without even a thank you or have a nice evening. If it had not been for the food, the night would have been a complete failure on so many levels. The lack of servers or service had to be the worst I have experienced at the Cork.4 different people had been to our table and the only one that did the job was the one to seat us. The beverage order took awhile, the entrée order took a while, the soup took forever and came just before the entrée. No one checked on the meal, the soup, the bread, the beverages...We were simply ignored or forgotten. A huge disappointment as it was a birthday celebration. My husband and I ate at Cork n Cleaver on 6/8/17 with my boss & her husband. None of us had been there for years. We spent $75 & they spent $120 for the worst possible food. My shrimp were like popcorn shrimp & the specialty potatoes were nothing but cheese and butter ( I had to pay more for these). We should have gone to Mezzaluna for the price and had fabulous food. Sorry but we four are not going back and will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I really enjoy dining here, we frequent this establishment (not quite regulars tho)...I read the reviews, obviously there are some hit or miss days so they could probably work on their consistency with customer experience! I like the ambience (quiet and low light, my favorite). I love their food...and their salad bar! The tap beer is ice cold, so makes an overpriced beer mostly worth it...The times I have not had a great experience was due to inexperienced servers. The manager will make it right if something is really wrong...I try to sit in the bar if I can as their bartenders also take food orders and they are pretty great, every time. read more
