Chicken wings, yams, Mac and cheese, cornbread.

Visiting from out of state and found this place on Yelp. We arrived 30 minutes before closing but the food and the service were as if we came at peak time. The food was AMAZING. The portions are enough to feed 2/3 people off 1 plate. The chicken wings are whole and fried to perfection. The yams and Mac and cheese definitely top tier. My friend got the turkey wings, yams, and cabbage/collards mix. If you're in Camden or any of the surrounding cities and want some soul food, Corrine's Place is where you want to be. True down south flavor but in the north.

Food was absolutely amazing and so was the service! Wings $ fish perfectly fried and the cabbage was out of sight! We'll be back again...soon!!

To my mind, this is the only valid soul food place in Philly... and it's in Jersey. But I tried and tried and tried to find someplace in the city and nothing met the standards. So over the bridge I had to go. Corinne's is basically a "meat and two" type place. All of the mains that I've had have been great, except for the salmon croquettes, which were just okay. All of the sides are delicious. Standouts include the greens, yams, and mac. Cornbread used to be included, but now it's an add on (maybe $1.50). The cake slices are most definitely made from box mix, but they put that jello pudding in there, so they're moist and delicious. The peach cobbler is just alright. Closed on Mondays. And closed a little to early almost every day. Definitely call before you come if you're taking out -- the wait can be up to 45 minutes if they're busy.

While I don't think many dine in at Corinne's Place--looks like the dining room is used mostly for events, lured by its recent placement as #42/50 in Philadelphia Magazine and a recent James Beard award for regional food, we greatly enjoyed our dine-in experience. We decided to go with the Family Value Platter (3 meats, 3 sides) for $110.00 and after indulging, each couple came away with a to-go container of delicious soul food. The platter comes with two desserts (individually packaged) and we had a pitcher of sweet tea. Upon our server's recommendation, we tried the (1) fried chicken, (2) fried whiting, and (3) barbecue pork ribs along with (a) baked mac & cheese, (b) collard greens, and (c) rice & gravy. We also had a side of fried chicken wings, which turned out to be much like the fried chicken--not bad leftover, though--and some okra, corn & tomatoes, which had great flavor! The whiting is a delicate white fish and was terrific with a hit of Corinne's hot sauce (definitely ask for some if you like your food spicy!). The fried chicken was perfectly juicy and crispy. But the barbecue pork ribs won the meat game with fall-off-the bone, delicious BBQ sauced meat. My favorite sides were the baked mac & cheese and the collard greens--the latter were so tender! And the apple cobbler was sweet and cinnamon-y. I agree with Holly W., I did wish there was less plastic used, at least for those dining in, but I'm sure we'll reuse the platter for a potluck down the line!

I was unaware Corrines was undergoing renovations when we decided to go. We were ushered to a large tent , equipped with heat lamps , and seated . It was a cold windy day. The tent was warm initially but it got pretty cold out there pretty quickly. Now for the good part .... The food was excellent . The portions were generous . The server was very friendly. I ordered fried chicken, collard greens and sweet potatoes (they are not candied , it's a tender sweet potato) ... and a side of catfish. My entree was very good but the catfish was EXCEPTIONAL. My husband ordered fried whiting , Mac and cheese and okra . He enjoyed his meal as well. I will definitely be back ... after the renovations

My hubby and I dined here on a Sunday evening, which is open buffet day... I am not a fan of buffet style eating because I don't like the idea of random people picking over food that I may be eating BUT Corinne's buffet is staffed and only her team handles the food AND they keep it covered when they are not serving, also a huge plus is that the pans of food get refreshed periodically... The buffet is all you can eat. The offerings on the night that we came were: fried chicken, sliced ham, cabbage, string beans, baked Mac n cheese, candied yams, yellow rice, turkey legs or wings, curry chicken, beef ribs and something else (maybe ettouffè - I forgot to ask) - of this I tried the fried chicken, the curry chicken, Mac n cheese, cabbage, candies yams and string beans. I cleaned my plate the first round; the second round was too much for me to handle - lol. The staff here was awesome and very welcoming - I felt like I was visiting with my family. My hubby and I sat outdoors under a covered patio tent and listened to good music playing while we ate. I can't count how many times the staff came over and checked on us; the customer service was stellar!!! And the highlight - Corinne greeted us and checked in to make sure we were being taken care of. I regret that I did not get to take a pic with her because I was too busy stuffing my face and then dashed because a storm was looming. But when I come back - I'm going to take a pic with Corinne first - before I eat! ;-) The atmosphere is very laid back and the are very reasonable too. My hubby and I did push ourselves (hand to forehead) to eat dessert but it was just OK however, that wasn't what we came for - we came specifically for a good (home cooked tasting) southern style meal and that is exactly what we got! Looking forward to another visit :-)

Finally was able to taste the food at Corinne's Place and it was worth it!! Catfish & chickens wings were fried to perfection. Macaroni & cheese, potato salad & sweet potatoes were great. My only disappointment were the black eye peas...little seasoning and undercooked. We visited on a Sunday afternoon but did not get the buffet selections which was very popular!! A stream of regular customers assured us we made a good choice. Staff was EXTREMELY helpful and service was wonderful.

From Sundays' buffet - Day 1: Had to place some of it on a plate because it was so much food!

From the moment I entered, the owner, host, and waitress warmly greeted me and my friend. The owner exudes humility, speaks softly, and radiates a calming presence. The restaurant's aesthetic is beautiful, complemented by background music featuring 70s, 80s, and 90s R&B and Soul Train tunes. The food presentation was attractive, and everything tasted delicious and ready to serve. I ordered catfish, kale greens, and baked Mac n cheese. Initially, I hesitated about the Mac and cheese because I don't usually favor overly cheesy dishes. However, it was excellent, featuring a slight brown crust, with perfect seasoning and sauce. The waitress was transparent about the flavor. We visited on a Saturday, which meant we sampled their lunch menu. I look forward to trying their Sunday brunch. I used to…read morevisit when they were cooking out of the trailer behind the VFW in Woodbury, and somehow I never made it to their new location. After finally stopping in, I have one question... Why did I wait so long? This is, without question, the best barbecue I've ever had in my life. The first surprise was the restaurant itself. I knew they had a nice outdoor seating area, but I had no idea they also had a beautiful indoor dining room. It's clean, comfortable, and a huge step up from what I was expecting. We were greeted by the sweetest young lady named V, and she was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer our questions. Customer service like that makes a great meal even better. My wife and I split a full slab of ribs, and they were nothing short of incredible. Tender without falling apart, packed with smoky flavor, and finished with just the right amount of sauce. Every bite reminded me why good barbecue is worth the wait. For sides, we ordered the mac & cheese and their famous Mean Beans. I'll admit, I thought "Mean Beans" meant green beans. It turns out they're baked beans...and that's saying something because I normally don't even like baked beans. These completely changed my mind. They were rich, smoky, and absolutely delicious. Then there was the cornbread. I've had cornbread all over the place, but this was hands down the best cornbread I've ever eaten. Moist, buttery, just the right amount of sweetness--it was almost dessert. Big Swerve's has come a long way from the trailer behind the VFW, and it's great to see them thriving. The food is phenomenal, the service is outstanding, and every part of the meal exceeded my expectations. This isn't just another barbecue joint. It's the kind of place that reminds you what barbecue is supposed to taste like. Five stars isn't enough. This has officially become my favorite barbecue restaurant anywhere, and I'll be back again and again.

Staff was friendly and on point from beginning to end. They do take the dress code seriously, I saw people get turned away for athletic wear. It's clear on their website and not asking too much for an upscale night out. Prices weren't ridiculous, especially since portions were plentiful. A lot of people were leaving with leftovers. The specialty drinks are a bit pricey tho. The cornbread and Mac n cheese are a must order the moment you sit down to start things off. Both served in a small skillet, perfect to share. The cornbread bread was flavorful and the butter that comes on top you def want to let that melt right in! The Mac n cheese noodles were a little softer than I would of preferred but the blend of cheeses and the crisp crust on top made me not worry about the doneness of the noodles, it was top notch! We went classic with the entrees - catfish with gulf shrimp. The catfish was cooked perfect super tender and flaky. I wasn't thrilled with the shrimp, for "gulf shrimp" as they listed in the menu they were a lot Smaller than I expected and a little tough. The sauce they came in was nice. I would have liked some kind of sauce on the side for the catfish. The collard green rice was delicious and the broccoli that came with it was prob the most delicious broccoli I've ever had, just cooked well in lots of butter! The other entree we got was the fried chicken. Really delicious and tender. It came with a sweet potato side that was yummy and a classic collard greens Even tho we were stuffed we had to try the bread pudding, it was served with a Side of delicious ice cream. So when you read this please take these as constructive critiques to help improve the business rather than a knit-picky tirade. Ambiance: as we walked in, there were carts of various chicken products, congeals, and bags of flour that were being carted in and out of the restaurant. This continued throughout the entire meal. I recognize that it is possible that there is only the one exit which makes this process difficult for the customers not to see, however it is a bit jarring to see those things while you are eating. Especially when you are asking customers to stand up because the table set up gets in the walkway where the cart is moving. There was also a noticeable hole in the ground where we were seated and my foot slipped in it on my way out, which is dangerous in itself. Service: as we entered there was no one attending the front desk, it almost seemed as though it was just a self service desk similar to a fast casual restaurant so we walked back to the seating area to see what was going on. Eventually someone came out, asked us how many and then proceeded to get on a personal phone call and went outside as we stood there. I recognize this could have been an emergency and she did apologize afterwards. Once we were seated and ready to order, a member of my party asked a question about chicken pieces and it seemed the waitress wasn't very knowledgeable about what was written on the menu. We also noticed she was the only waitress attending about 9 tables. Food: I got what was suppose to be the equivalent of a Thanksgiving sandwich, the gobble gobble that was suppose to include: stuffing, mashed potatoes and some form of gravy. The sandwich was dry and while it came with a sauce on the side, something like cranberry would have elevated this sandwich. I assume at some point this did have a cranberry relish or cranberry compote addition but on this particular day it did not. We ordered the various bbq sauces and that really helped elevate this sandwich. As a table we got the Mac and cheese to share and it was particularly sharp, I don't have much to say about this because some people prefer their Mac this way. Another member of my party got the fried chicken stack and he enjoyed everything about it! While he thought it was a lot, he thought the chicken was fried well, the mix of ingredients was balanced and it was so much food he took half of it to go! We all enjoyed the fries as stand out and particularly yummy. Overall: I believe this place is trying. I think operating as take out and order in could work if the set up of the resturant wasn't strained by the singular exit and the super narrow hallway. Having one waitress made the wait times particularly long but again I understand the constraints of the restaurant. With all of these fundamental issues I don't believe their price point is justified, especially the cork fee. However, they are the only Black owned restaurant(to my knowledge with the leaving of their sister company Amina) in Old City so there is a lot of potential there! I hope to return with a much better experience!
