Service was very friendly. Food was hit and miss. Best dish was FRIED chicken. Worst dish was brisket. Some of the sides were decent. Some of the sides were reheated and tasted funky. Cornbread and fries were pretty good. It's obvious the bbq isn't fresh. Especially the brisket. Disguising the reheat by adding a jus to the meat. I wasn't going to leave this review, but then I saw the 20% gratuity added to the bill for me. I'm a good tipper, but when I see that it makes me not want to tip anything! The audacity!! Ordered the two meat beef ribs. Came with two sides and cornbread. Way too expensive ( $25.00 ) for the amount of meat on the bones. The cornbread tasted like it was soaked with caramel sauce. Service was great and the food is SUPERB! I am new to Jersey and this was a lucky find on Google one hungry afternoon. The restaurant is spacious and had comfortable seating for dine- in. It was much bigger on the inside than it looked driving up. We ordered the food to go, and it did take some time for the food to come out. But OH MAMA, so worth the wait! If you're in a hurry, order ahead. We ordered the NC style chopped pork sandwich, which was fantastic. It was a bit soggy bottomed when we got home, but it was so flavorful, that didn't slow my kids down at all. For my husband I got the brisket and beef ribs. The ribs were fall off the bone juicy and the brisket, melt in your mouth tender. I had a veggie platter that included many of the sides. Slaw- fantastic. Baked beans - delicious, Sweet potatoes- like candy. The collard greens were my personal fave. They were tender with a rich umami flavor. This man knows flavor x1000. Hats off to the chef! I have only been here twice thus far but delicious food both times. I personally don't judge an establishment based off of the serving containers, but they're more or less a convenience due to the portion sizes. Beef ribs, cole slaw, mixed greens, sweet potatoes, green beans, the 'you gotta be kidding me' wings. All top notch. The food at this restaurant is cooked like you're at home. Abundant servings and quality ingredients. The BBQ ribs were some of the largest, meatiest and freshest that I have seen in years! Not the dried up bones with flakes of meat on the edges covered in sauce. The location has plenty of parking and is ADA compliant. The restaurant is nice inside and so are the owners. Hi I had to write this review because I hope this place can make adjustments. I believe in giving a place a second chance but this place here I'm done done. The first time I went I got ribs Mac & cheese and string beans. The ribs was the only thing I could eat because the rest was too salty. Okay yesterday I said I'll Try again. I got whiting fish Mac and string beans. The picture showed nice big pieces of fish. What I got was cut of fish pieces. Wow, great food and spoke with the owner, who is incredibly committed to putting out a great product. I like a pork ribs but after trying their beef ribs I might be a convert. Also had the cornbread- 10 outta 10. The greens, coleslaw, seafood salad, & wings were all great. We were so disappointed at this place! We should have immediately walked out when we noticed we were the only patrons in this very large establishment. It was 1 PM today (Sunday) and there was no one in the joint! And wow! The menu prices were VERY HIGH but we still took a chance because we don't mind paying a lot for a great meal. Well, my rib platter ($22) came out at room temperature and I had to send them back to get heated up. My platter consisted of 3 bones and 2 sides. The bones were huge, but only 1/2 of them was covered in meat. The meat was tasty but definitely not worth the money! My girl had the brisket platter ($26). NO FLAVOR! on her brisket whatsoever. She had my try it and it tasted like sawdust. And the sides? The green beans had absolutely no seasoning and were extremely over cooked. The Mac/cheese side was considered a "premium" side so an extra $1.50 was thrown on the bill. And "aunt someones" potato salad was so bland my girl did not eat more than 1 bite. Then the bill came out and 18% gratuity was automatically added. Now, we always tip closer to 30% but being FORCED to tip a minimum 18% seemed rude to me. We added a couple of dollars anyway and were happy just to be getting out of there! For frame of reference, I don't think Mission BBQ is very good, but MBBQ is 100% better than this place! I had a sit-down meal with my family, and the food ordered was served in a foam takeout container and not a dinner plate. Then they had the nerve to charge gratuity for non-professional service. I understand and do not have a problem giving a tip, but when you charge customers for the full course meal (meal, two sides, and bread) and then extra charge for the two sides that's a rip-off. The hostess or waitress told me what my bill was $167.00 without showing me what the charges were. When I asked to give me the bill and why a $120.00 bill (includes full course meal, drink, and taxes), but says $167.00 because they added a gratuity of $47.00 for poor service and the food was too salty served on a foam take out "Not At All". The ambiance and how nice the man was made me decide I would post a yelp review after I tried my food which I had to try a hush puppy before I got home The hush puppies are so good I haven't had ones like that since I was younger and would go to Virginia Beach.l on the bay bridge tunnel. Everything I got was really good! I had the pulled pork sandwich fries, sweet potatoes, yellow rice, hush puppies ( 2 orders because they were out of cornbread) which was nice of them especially since their really good Can't wait to try something new! They have a nice set up inside as well it's right next to the shop rite! Would like to dine in one day as well! I highly recommend it! Been looking for a good bbq soul food joint and this is it! $65 for two platters is astronomical. We obliged to pay the amount hoping to be blown away by our purchases. I ordered catfish and jerk chicken with Mac and greens. The catfish was good. The jerk chicken was a half chicken portion and just didn't do it for me. The Mac was too sweet and the greens were ok. My husband got catfish and fried chicken with Mac and yellow rice. He said he didn't like the fish too much and that it was "dry". Overall, we have leftovers that are going in the trash because we have no desire to reheat the food. read more

Went on a whim for lunch, we always drive by and decided to try it out today. The server who took our to go order was very friendly but unfortunately the food was subpar for $50 spent on 2 platters. We ordered the catfish platter with 2 sides and the Beef Brisket also with 2 sides. The fish was not fresh and definitely fried in old grease. The Mac and cheese was burned with no flavor at all, and the brisket was terribly salty. Black eye peas were not fully cooked and we were given buttered rolls rather than cornbread. Cheap cut of beef ribs, salmon not grilled enough, collard greens have no flavor, Mac n cheese is lackluster, sweet potato is bland, cabbage is flavorless. The best thing was the cornbread. I wanted to like this bbq as I heard great things. I was sadly disappointed in the quality of food. We went on Father's Day so maybe the volume was something they did not account for and we're overwhelmed. We arrived at opening and ordered four platters. We were told the wait would be an hour but didn't mind of the food lives up to its hype. When we got home with our orders we were missing three orders of cornbread, one order of hush puppies, and one order of macaroni and cheese. These platters were a bit pricey so they should have been complete. The brisket and collard greens had no flavor other then extremely salty. The smoked wings were tough . The bbq chicken was juicy and flavorful and my family enjoyed the baked sweet potatoes. I wanted to support a local restaurant but feel that the chain bbq restaurants have a better quality at a better price. A friend and I tried this restaurant today. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The menu had a wide variety of foods. The plate size was large and enough food to take some home. The restaurant was also nicer on the inside then I expected. My only two complaints are the Mac and Cheese wasn't my favorite and they offered a kids meal but didn't have a booster or high chair for smaller kids. We were sadly dissatisfied with the meal. The food which last time was very flavorful; was bland and kind of cold. The service was kind of slow but the waiter was friendly enough. The kitchen got my order wrong but I was too hungry to send it back but was disappointed that they upcharged for beef served pork instead. Good customer service is a MUST at any establishment, but the service here from the beginning was EXCELLENT, BEYOND, & ABOVE. We drove 45 mins away from home to taste test the delicious food that was being advised from friends that had visited (however while I trust their judgment, I had to have the experience myself) and boy was I not disappointed. The smoky mild wings IS A MUST TRY (DO NOT LEAVE HERE W/O TAKING EXTRAS HOME), the ribs... fish....chicken were seasoned to perfection (lick lips), yams was good, corn bread sweet & moist. The live entertainer finished off the mood, he was friendly, welcoming, and made us feel as if we were at home, he has a very very nice voice, you have no choice but to engage in signing with him. Our server was new and nervous but she was very helpful. When some items were no longer available, she brought us great replacements. When our food came, we were so pleased with the taste and the size of the portions. I had the catfish, greens and potato salad. He had ribs, Ollie's baked beans and yellow rice. I have been searching for a BBQ place that has beef ribs because I don't eat pork. This is the only place anywhere near me that I have found them in my search. The ribs were very tender and fell off the bone as you would expect! Brisket was good but could use a little more BBQ sauce for flavor. Sides were both good. Last night was our third time in, yhe waitress remember us and was extremely friendly The food is always fantastic. I am a southern girl so i know a thing our two about soul food. The blackeyed pees should be on any plate you order. Greens are so good, have just thd right amount of vinegar. And the fried chicken well it is something to write home about. In fact i have only had better in Louisiana. If i had one complaint it would be the singer. He is fun, don't get me wrong, but the volume could be turned down, it is impossible to talk to people at your table when he is playing, just because of the volume.
