It was my first time at a Core Power Yoga class today and it was a great class. It was easy to book online. The front desk was helpful and let me borrow a lock. The changing room was clean and had ample lockers and space. The studio room was on the small size and it was quite packed. I took Core Power Yoga 2 class which was heated so everyone was sweating a lot. There were some men who took their shirts off which made the sweat drip more around their area. They should just leave their shirts on so their sweat can be absorbed into their shirt. The class was wonderful and the instructor was very clear with instructions and I never felt lost. I highly recommend Laura R as the instructor and I definitely would come back to take her class again. read more

Whatever CP is doing at the top, whether at the studio or corporate level, is working. I go to Glenview, Old Orchard and Winnetka and there are many really great instructors. Both CP2 and HPF are consistently hot, sweaty workouts. I appreciate how instructors add their own spin, thoughtful intentions and levity to HPF classes, helping to break up a great repetitive sequence. The creative, varied flows that CP2 instructors come up with are truly impressive. Some of my faves: Chris B, Dan B, Laura R, Amy K, Char G, Alila H... I keep trying new ones and I'm rarely disappointed. read more

Yoga is what I needed in my life, after almost a 10 year hiatus. After many years of high intensity exercise routines, I'm enjoying the change up and lower impact workout. I love the mind-body connection, flexibility and strength, and most importantly, mental and physical reminders embedded through class that remind me to slow down and breathe. Sometimes the hardest part of class is the savasana pose, laying there in stillness and rest for the final 3 minutes. The Glenview location is relatively new and therefore I've found much cleaner than other studios. The calendar of classes at this particular location doesn't work with my schedule as much as other locations, but I do visit here once every couple weeks for hot power fusion (HPF, set outline of poses and 105F) or yoga sculpt. There are a boatload of early morning classes each day. Mid day, not so much, and evening classes usually don't start until about 5:30pm. I gravitate towards the traditional yoga classes, like C2 (heated, more of an intermediate class) and HPF, but do enjoy a good C1 (unheated, beginner class) now and again. When I feel like I'm missing cardio and need to get my heartbeat up more, I'll drop into a yoga sculpt class, which is like boot camp on your yoga mat in a heated environment. It's a lot of short bursts of lifting with light to medium weights or body weight movements and less so yoga. Sculpt classes can get quite packed at prime time, with seriously 40 people in the room. Friendly staff, well kept locker room area, and easy parking options! There's diagonal parking spots out front on Glenview Road, but I prefer the VIP student spots in the parking lot right behind the building! read more

I love the yoga sculpt classes- but I can't understand WHY they pile everyone in there like sardines! IT IS AWFUL! Listen- you're sweating your butt off obviously since it's heated, and I go early to get myself a spacey area (next to a wall or post so i have room to at least one side of me) well then I have had instructors in the past to move me so someone can fit in between. I am sorry but there's probably like 60 freaking people squeezed into a space that should safely and hygienically allow probably like 40-45... It's gross- my sweat was literally flicking off my body. Lady in front was inches from my matt, lady next to me- inches from me as well, and behind me, maybe 6 inches.. Why do they allow this capacity?!? You even have people literally steps away from the door- if someone needs to get out to cool off a sec or use the bathroom you're stepping on peoples matts, or their sweat spots, and they are VERY MUCH in the way. Please, manager, owner whoever- clean this up- change your capacity and don't have your instructors move you so that someone else can squeeze into a spot that should NOT be a spot... read more

Pros: The teacher who taught the fusion class was really nice. Dressing rooms were nice. Easy parking. Cons: Teacher does not give much individual instruction and teaching generally seems a bit generic. I guess that's what you can expect from a corporate studio but I always hope for more. read more

Loved hot power fusion and especially the Yoga Sculpt 75 Minutes class. I bought this as a 30 day Groupon and fell in love with the classes and very relaxing atmosphere. After a few weeks I lost 10 lbs without really trying , was sleeping better and even my arms were more defined from the weights used in yoga sculpt . I moved away but would have loved to continue going to this place . It is on the expensive side but worth it if you can get a deal or go regularly. They do have some sort of deal that I had started looking into where you can go unlimited If you work there-you can research online for the details. I also went to the Park Ridge location but preferred the Glenview location which was conventionally locates right next to a coffee shop. read more

I just finished my first two weeks at CorePower and went to classes at the Glenview and Old Orchard locations and absolutely love the clean, calm, and positive environment. I love the variety of classes offered. I would like to see more Sunday classes offered though. I go every Wednesday night. Mathew is great, the studios are clean, and the showers are way above average.

I tried out this yoga studio because a friend of mine was starting there and gave me the heads up on the free two week pass you get for buying a $9 yoga mat. That seemed like a good deal to me. Also, the 6 am classes are a better fit for my schedule than the 6:30 am classes at my current studio. I live an hour away from work (in the Glenview area), so I like to get in an early class after the drive and before the work day. I double checked the hours of the Glenview location - 6 am to 10 pm every day - and decided to plan for the Wednesday 6 am class, shower after, and head to work. There was traffic on the I-94 (Edens) spur that morning and I was going to be 5 minutes late. I was upset knowing that they might not let me into the class, which is understandable, I don't like disruptions in my classes either. However, I could use the showers to get ready for work. When I arrived, the outer door to the business was locked, and as I pulled on the door (confused, since they were open), a woman in the lobby pointed at her watch, then the studio in session, then shook her head at me and walked away. I was stunned at this. How could I (so rudely) be turned away from a studio during open hours?? I tried to knock on the door again to ask if I could at least use the showers to prepare for work. No answer. Being an hour away from home and my other studio, I had to sit in my car for an hour and a half for my 7:30 work day to start. Walking into my workplace in sweats was awkward, and so was changing in the bathroom, without feeling fresh from a shower. Just awful. After work I called the manager of this location. She offered me one extra day on my free pass and blamed the cleaning staff for locking me out. First of all, the woman who gestured at me was definitely not cleaning staff, based on her appearance and the fact that she had no cleaning supplies. But that doesn't really matter, I don't think it is very professional to deflect a customer complaint towards a service provider. If CorePower advertises that they are open between 6 am an 10 pm, then they should have someone manning the desk to help with members and new customers. The manager told me that they do not have the resources to man the desk the entire time... but looking at the quality of the studio, I doubt that. It's very obvious that they are just being cheap about their staffing. So the manager said that she "hopes I will come back and give the place another try." But why would I, if I don't even have access to the facilities if I am running late? That is a complete waste of money. I've never heard of a gym locking members out after opening hours. I am giving this studio 1 star, because while speaking to the manager I told her I wanted to write a poor review, but I thought that calling her first was only fair, to see if there was a misunderstanding. She didn't seem to care about my experience at all, and definitely didn't help with finding a solution. This indicates to me that she cares little about the business and little about the customers. When I go to yoga, I am there for a positive experience that sets the tone for my day. I have never had such a negative experience with any yoga studio. read more

I love hot yoga and I am a fan of Core Power. They have so many locations that it is very easy for me to find a class within an 8 mile radius of my house. The Glenview sculpt class is run classically, and I appreciate that. They keep a similar sequence and don't run it like a boot camp, the way the Park Ridge location sometimes does. Glenview's HPF classes tend to run too hot--for example, the class I went to this morning at 9am got to be 110 degrees. I asked the instructor to turn it down, and he did--but you could tell he didn't appreciate the request. The CPY information says that HPF should be between 102 and 105, so I really don't understand why some instructors insist on making it hotter. It makes a great class unbearable. Classes that are significantly hotter than what is advertised is probably my biggest beef about CPY--it makes a great workout feel like (expensive) torture. I don't want to go anywhere else for hot yoga--I just wish all the locations would follow what is advertised. read more
