I rekindled my relationship with OrangeTheory because I was working on a project for my part-time job at the time that involved drawing their signature splat point over and over again so I took that as a sign to give it a try again. The workouts are great and I appreciate the science that goes into the daily workout design so I don't have to spend time figuring out what to do and when. The overall studio culture is pretty okay now--I appreciate the effort that goes into trying to promote member's small businesses, the service projects for the community, etc. You pick your "spot" for the day when you arrive and check in so it eliminated my biggest issue when I left which was people telling me I was on their treadmill. The equipment is kept up to date and clean, but sometimes I feel this studio is behind on updates compared to other ones in the area. Overall, I am grateful for having a studio close to home because it helps me keep a routine and start my day off strong!

I attended a Gong Immersion event at Avani Studios at Sky Fitness…read more A gong immersion, or gong bath, does not involve water but instead being immersed in the sound vibrations of a gong, believed to be healing to the body by entering a relaxing or meditative state. I knew what to expect because I had attended a gong bath many years ago. That experience had me falling asleep, experiencing synaesthesia, seeing explosions of light, color and sound, as well as feeling very peaceful and relaxed. This immersion was held in the yoga studio and was at capacity. You set down a mat, and other blankets, with feet in the direction of the gong. (This event had five sound healers and gongs). We started with some stretches and yoga. Then you lie down, palms up, legs uncrossed and listen. It's hard to describe the sound. It's deep, almost like a rumble, kinda like the cymbals, but more than just hearing, I also felt it in my pulse. With five gongs it's almost like a symphony with sounds and vibrations building on top of each other but you don't just hear it coming from the direction of your feet, it seems to be coming from every direction, immersing you in vibration. At this point I went in and out of sleep and certain sounds made my limbs twitch. One certain sound seemed to jolt me awake and I saw yellow or green pops of color (my eyes were closed). After that, I started to get restless and could not stay still and needed to stretch. I think at that point I had enough and it was maybe 10 minutes more (the total gong portion was 75 min?). I felt very tired (perhaps extremely relaxed?) and calm, my eyes were tearing (???), and we then had a short deep breathing and meditation. The gong practitioners were lovely, beautiful souls who promoted peace and healing. I felt at peace and in a more refreshed state of mind than when I started. I would attend another of these events but next time I would bring more blankets.

Check it out! They give one free trial day, they dont pester you nor scam you like other gyms…read more(coughcough a specific gym in schaumburg, rip me off, lost $160 +injured), the place is small yet very clean (everything needed to learn is there). There is one main coach who teaches boxing and random professionals that help out and train there too. The boxing program is for any age, (8yrs-30+??) When there are young and adult students there, usually the two coaches will split them for more teacher to student interaction. So far i've been with this place for about a month and I love it, it reminds me of high school, where there is a coach that makes you work your butt off (i sweat here more than I did in cross country and hot yoga...bring an extra t=shirt to change into at the end b/c yours will be drenched when the hour is done...seriously). The program is for people who want to have a good cardio workout or learn how to fight (or the art of boxing). Students usually do warm up exercises for the first 15-20 mins of class, then we do shadow boxing in front of the mirror while coach goes around to give us tips. Sometimes we also practice with the professionals in the ring or with each other, depending on what coach wants. Overall this place is great and so are the students and everyone involved there. The prices are also very reasonable, but first go in and try a free class to see if you like it first! Oh! and btw there are males and females in the boxing program, so who ever you are, dont feel intimidated, just do it!..or try at least lol =)

Quick info: Small classes All women, age 18 and up No drama Pole dancing focus Other dance/fitness classes Drop-in's okay for certain classes Affordable The main focus is on pole dancing classes but this studio is not just limited to pole dancers. They offer other classes for dance and physical fitness, such as Flex Appeal (flexibility) and At The Barre (adult beginner ballet). They allow drop-in's for certain classes that are affordable, in case you want to try a class that's not pole dancing and don't want to commit to buying a whole class session up front. They also offer a virtual "punch card" online so you can try different classes. There's no drama here: the students and instructors are women aged 18 and up. All shapes, sizes, and fitness levels come here. No one is too big or too old. The classes are small and the instructors can decrease or increase the challenge of the class for your own personal needs. I like that I am encouraged to strive to be better but am not pressured to keep up with the girl next to me. Everyone's goals, needs, and abilities are different.
