First of all our service was excellent. My husband had prime rib which he ordered medium rare and it was definitely cooked medium, no rare to it, he said it was okay but he's had much better. I had a bacon wrapped filet that was supposed to be med. rare, but again it was overdone, but the flavor was okay. I could not tell that there was really any bacon around it as it was burnt. I ordered a loaded baked potato for $2 extra but that was a joke. My husband's regular baked potato had more sour cream on it than mine and the bacon, sour cream and cheese was skimpy at best, plus it was dry underneath that little bit of topping. The prices were overly high, and I know beef is high, but you can go to a well known chain steakhouse and get a more reasonable and better steak experience than here. The drinks were very high priced also. We had dessert after our meal and it was very good. Only reason we ate here to begin with was we were given a gift certificate to this place. We waited at our table an hour just to get our drinks and that was after asking about them. Then our meals took a couple hours to come out even though the place was not that busy. Food wasn't warm and some of the portions were smaller than what a kid's serving would be. They put our party in a back room and it's like they forgot about us. We visited this Steak House on our way from Red Bay Alabama to Washington State. So glad we did! Man alive did the owner Jon Savely produce a magnificent Lobster Ravioli and also a Crab Spaghetti. The color was unique in that it was black, this was done by adding Cuttle Fish ink to the batter. The spices complimented the dish as did the Merlot wine. Salad was beautiful and tasted good. All this was served to us by Gerardo and assisted by Angie and supervised by Samantha! What a team. Atmosphere was upscale but comfortable and inviting. The entire staff literally fast walked from table to kitchen to get food on the table while piping hot, and were very attentive to our needs. Ordered the Lobster Mushrooms, critical lack of lobster. Tasted like a crab salad mousse at best with too much mustard. On the other hand, I also ordered the Dry Aged Wagyu Ribeye and it was divine. Perfectly seasoned, great crust, and spot on medium rare cook.The whipped mashed potatoes, asparagus and aged tallow butter were wonderful accompaniments. Service was professional and friendly. The dining room was beautiful decorated. There were high tops, tables, and ample bar seating perfect for just about any occasion. I just wish I had ordered the scallops instead of those terrible mushrooms or my server had offered a better recommendation. While in Kearney, Nebraska one is faced with a fairly narrow selection of cuisines: basically steak and potatoes (or burger and fries) are the predominant options here. That is not to say they aren't good, it's just natural given the community. Headed to the Coppermill Steakhouse for my bday. Of course a celebration deserves a great drink and the gin Martini was mixed delightfully. I enjoyed the Wedge Salad as our starter. Not a fan of bacon bits (or Gorgonzola cheese) so skipped those staples from the salad. I wound up jumping in on the New York Strip, which was fine but served medium as opposed to the requested Medium Rare. The sides were the better part of the meal though. Tasty mashed potatoes, rich with butter but the Blackened Cauliflower was unique, nicely (not overly) blackened and cooked to allow for firmness yet chewiness. Never looking for a freebie, it was mentioned that we were there celebrating a birthday. Not even a 'happy birthday' from the wait staff certainly didn't make me, or the place, seem special. read more

We stayed in Kearney for a night on our move across country. Our hotel happened to be across the street so we decided to give it a try. This was one of the best meals we'd had in a long time. You can taste the quality of the food and everything was delicious. The drinks and wine selection were great! Our server was friendly, attentive, and answered all of our questions. Stopped in Kearney for the night. Steak and Nebraska go together like peas and carrots. Off we went to Coppermill which was walking distance from the hotel. Started with the Nebraska Cheese Fries. Huge mountain of house cut fries, covered in blackened, braised steak tips, BBQ sauce, bacon and "house made" cheese sauce. Although the "house made" cheese sauce sure tasted a lot like Velveeta to me, it was all still delicious. Sometimes, Velveeta does the job. Hus had the Ribeye and he said it was very good. Mushrooms in a wine sauce on top took it up a notch. I had the New York Strip and the same mushroom topping and it was very good. Asparagus on the side were a little anemic. Believe it or not, what I enjoyed the most was the Dorothy Lynch salad dressing. If you've never had Dorothy Lynch, it is a sweet, spicy dressing kind of like French but way better. DL is made in Nebraska. For those who know, know corn, Big Red and Dorothy Lynch = Nebraska. Steak too. But I love me some Dorothy Lynch. read more

This is a nice steakhouse with good food, but narrow menu. In all fairness, I did not get a steak. They have a robust lineup with pricing average to above average. I did find it odd that it was sort of a casual place, but the menu was pretty high-end. People were dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, yet many of the steaks were well over $50. The chicken breast sandwich was good. The breast was quite large and thick. The breading was light. So, it's definitely on the healthier side of all the fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Tried this place on our way through town. It was right next to awesome Hampton Inn where we stayed so we walked! Service was impeccable and friendly, Emily did an outstanding job! We made a reservation and when we got there, the table was already set for us with menus and waters. They took our drink & appetizer order within two minutes of being there. Drinks came out of the bar so fast. The whole staff was working together. Burgers were big and juicy, prime rib sandwich was outstanding. Fries are homemade daily as well as the blue cheese and ranch dressings for the salad. The bacon belly appetizer was so delicious and the Nebraska cheese fries were insane. On the road traveling, stopped for the night. Figured we were in beef country, so wanted some prime rib. It came out with a butter knife, I'm thinking yes, will be super tender...it was not, the waiter observed me sawing away and asked if I would like a knife. I should've run from this place as soon as I met the indifferent host. Hey, I'm sure you don't want listen to me crap all over a restaurant, so I'm going to crap all over . . . myself. Why do I too often visit a strange city and end up eating at a crappy restaurant? My charred steak, the loud music and cold service (the place was physically chilly) was a real bummer. I was pissed off at myself for paying steakhouse prices for an Applebee's experience, as Jimmy Buffett would say "but I know . . . it's my own damn fault." I'm not sure how it will be accomplished (though I'm quite sure without the benefit of TripAdvisor reviews), but I subsequently made a vow before God that I will do a better job at locating better meals while traveling. read more

Had a late dinner here after a long day of travel. It's a nice place with a varied menu. We decided to eat at the bar as the restaurant was pretty crowded and noisy. We had a lovely evening thanks to our bartender, Mark. He was very attentive and friendly and he made our evening very enjoyable. Hubby had the 90-day aged ribeye and I had the filet. We arrived in town for business and it happened to be just about dinner time. Coppermill Steakhouse is across the street from the hotel we were staying at and a quick Google search shows this is one of very few non-chain restaurants in town. The decision was pretty easy to make. I'd call this place a classy steak house but don't feel like you have to dress up to eat here. There were plenty of jeans and cowboy boot wearing patrons (and many locals, especially older adults). We kept an open mind when we arrived because it was just weeks after a great flood wreaked havoc on the community. Surprisingly, you could barely tell. There was a makeshift host area (at least I think it was makeshift) but overall, the place was nice. I liked the decor and the low lights, the brick walls, and the cooler where steaks were waiting to be picked. First impressions as far as decor, nice. Service, eh. We had to wait a while for a host or anyone to welcome us or seat us. Employees are young, most of them looked like high school/college student aged. When we were finally seated, our server was great! Personable, attentive, friendly. We were notified right away that many of the dry aged steaks weren't available due to the flooding and storage issues. Which was fine, those are the priciest on the menu, and I figured since this is a steak place the regular old steaks are probably pretty outstanding too. The food, overall, was just ok which should explain the star level I selected. One of my friends ordered the Nebraskan burger with a Cesar salad. The burger was too charred, the salad lackluster. I had a fatty, thick 10 oz KC Strip (asked for it medium rare but it arrived more medium/done) and loaded potatoes (at the waitresses recommendation). My other friend at the table ordered the exact same meal. I was disappointed in the steak. The cut saved it from total failure because it was juicy but it had a bitter burn along the outside and a little salt and pepper could have taken it the next level. I've always been a fan of letting the meat speak for itself and rarely use steak sauce or season it myself, but salt can go a long way when preparing meat and the cook missed the point. The bitterness of the burn is mostly what I tasted. The potatoes were awesome, almost a meal on their own. They are hearty with a smoky, bacon flavor The salad was a huge disappointment. It was very small, gone in about four bites. The ranch dressing was yummy, though, and had a touch of dill. My friend who is NOT picky about food agreed that the steak was bland - a miss for a steakhouse. Overall, we decided that the leaner cuts of steak tended to be overcooked and I recommend avoiding them. Unless the chef figures out how to cook a steak properly, which is a shame we should even be saying this at a steakhouse. Don't dismay, however, if the Coppermill is your only choice when you're in town. The food isn't terrible and the cocktails...worth a visit! I started with a glass of Meiomi. It was really nice. Very smooth. Probably one of my favorite Pinor Noir's (and it's only $20 a bottle at Target!). My friend and I also shared a Calamity Jane. I LOVE bloody mary's, especially a mean one like this Calamity Jane. It was packed with so much flavor. The curry was an AWESOME addition and took the bloody mary to a whole new level. Yum!! Here's what is included in the drink: Housemade mix bloody marry mix with toasted cumin, ginger, curry, garlic, Kim Chi spice, and a dash of Tabasco over Chase Vodka. Finished with our Housemade beef jerky, bleu cheese stuffed olives, lime wedge, and sweet dill. I travel to the area a few times a year for business and will likely find myself back at Coppermill. Again, great place for drinks. Prices are too high to not have an out of this world steak, though, so hopefully next time it will be spot on. read more

had reservations at 6:15 on a friday night. was shocked to see it nearly empty on a weekend in a busy part of town right off the interstate. the menu feels disjointed. you can tell they are trying some new things while keeping people with less experienced pallets happy. this is definitely more of a steakhouse than a seafood place, btw. they have very limited seafood dishes. we started with the meatballs which were great, and a super large portion. i ordered the sirloin as my main with mushrooms and broccolini. the steak was fantastic but the veggies were wayyy over salted. my dad got the prime rib special and it was just okay. i don't know if i'll be itching to come back, but wasn't a bad meal. however, the service is excellent and the drinks are great! read more

Traveling late night on 6/25 to Colorado and stopped in Kearney for the night at next door hotel. Starving for dinner we arrived at the Coppermill just as they were ready to lock the door at closing. But the manager welcomed us in and assured we'd be taken care of. There were 5 of us and we ordered a wide arrange of items from their menu, along with drinks as we engaged in pleasant conversation with the bartender and waitress. The food was outstanding - from the appetizers & salad to the prime rib! The restaurant had very nice decor and we really enjoyed ourselves. On our return trip we planned to have dinner there again at the Coppermill, but arrived in Kearney too late and it was already closed. Five stars! Was lucky to find this place - not many options short of fast food between exits, very rural driving from Denver to Eastern Iowa. Solid 4 stars. 5 for service I sat at the bar and Alora took great care of me - excellent bartender and good conversation! Went with the Wedge Salad served traditionally and the Kansas City steak. Now I've never heard of this dessert before, the Pizooki, but don't leave without trying it. Outstanding if you like cookie dough. The grilled salmon is on point! This restaurant is in a small strip mall close buy several hotels on the edge of town. Perfect place to walk to for dinner if you are staying in the area. This is my go to dinner spot in Kearney for a nice sit down meal. They have THE BEST Grilled Salmon I can recall ever eating. The Hickory grill gives amazing flavor and they cook it to perfection every time. The potatoes and the carrots were excellent. The carrots have a teriyaki/sugar glaze that makes eating your vegetables a treat! They offer homemade bread and a whipped garlic butter with their dinner menu and I honestly could eat a whole loaf of the stuff, very tasty. They also have a nice bourbon selection including a signature drink involving hickory smoke which is fantastic (no picture as I skipped the alcohol this trip, but trust me it's worth the $13). Overall the service here has always been top shelf, they greet you at the door, always check up on you during your meal, and promptly bring you the check when requested.
