This is one of my *favorite* places to go for brunch. I've never been here for lunch or dinner so this review is based only on my two brunch experiences. Everything from the food to the decor to the service has been splendid. If you're looking for a farm-to-table menu where everything feels (and is) homemade, this is a place worth checking out.
I first came here with my fiancé and soon-to-be-MIL in July, right after Pokemon Go came out. The Pokemon offerings were pretty sparse but luckily the menu had more than enough to satisfy my needs. A one-pager offering maybe only 20-25 items total ranging from salads, sides, snacks, sandwiches, and entrees, the menu is small, simple, but also tastefully thought through. There isn't a bad item on the menu that I've tried thus far.
For our first visit, we were there to scope out the restaurant as a potential venue for our engagement party. For those interested, I'll touch more on that at the end. Fiancé and MIL and I decided to have some brunch to sample the food and to curb our hunger since we came at around 1 PM. There was a farmer's market in the parking lot at the time which was really great since I love to support local and small businesses. After buying a few bottles of artisanal olive oils, I learned that the farmer's market takes place every Sunday in the summer from (if I'm remembering correctly) 11a-3p. Anyway, when we went inside I was first delighted by the decor. The interior designer did a great job accomplishing a farmhouse, rustic look while keeping everything modern and open. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and then seated at a table where one side had a couch for seating and the other had seats. Very fun and casual. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich, blueberry pancakes, and grilled cheese sandwich along with a side of home fries. Every dish was perfectly prepared and tasted amazing! The grilled cheese was composed of fontina cheese and kale on sourdough and came with a side of homemade potato chips. It was crunchy, gooey, and flavorful all at the same time. The chicken sandwich had this unbelievable crust to it which was crunchier than any other chicken sandwich I'd ever tasted (sorry Wendy's and Popeyes) and the flavor was incredible. I'm not much of a pancake fan but the pancakes were supremely fluffy, with not only blueberries baked in but also topped with a blueberry compote. The home fries were on the softer side (I prefer crunchy) but the flavor was very good. At the end of the meal, fiancé and I were busy tending to our aspirations of becoming Pokemon masters which caught the attention of our waiter. We had a friendly conversation about Pokemon which was a welcomed surprise to finish our experience with.
For the second visit, it was just me and fiancé at the end of November. Even though it had already been 4.5 months since our last visit, the hostess remembered us! Pleasant surprise. This time we were seated at the front of the restaurant along a wall of all windows, overlooking Hillside Ave. We ordered the chicken sandwich (again), the grilled cheese (again), and the baked eggs along with a bloody mary, a side of bacon, and a side of cheddar grits. The chicken sandwich and grilled cheese were made exactly the same as the last time, so I think it's safe to say the food is consistent. The baked eggs were two eggs baked in a small ceramic bowl in a tomato sauce with chick peas and chorizo and then topped with arugula and (I think) feta, served with a piece of toast. Excellent in flavor, however I wished I had asked what consistency the eggs would be when served. I had imagined almost like a poached, runny yolk consistency but the eggs were a bit more well done than that. Regardless, it was very enjoyable. The cheddar grits and bacon were also well received, and the bloody mary did not disappoint although I felt it could have been a little larger. At the end, we had another pleasant surprise when our waiter remembered us from when we had the Pokemon Go discussion! So we had another small conversation about Pokemon Go which ended the meal on a high note again. Oh and, since it was the dead of fall, there was no farmer's market to peruse :(
As for the engagement venue search, we ended up not going with Copperhill only because we were having more guests than we thought would've been comfortable for the space. They have a back room for private parties with the windows overlooking the parking lot (where the farmer's market stands were set up) and these two big barn doors that open up to the main dining area in case you need more room. At the time we were looking for buffet style brunch but they only offered plated brunch service. read more
