The thing I remember most about that first meeting was the personalized board they had up welcoming me and my spouse (Mr. and Mrs. D) - a really nice touch, albeit slightly incorrect as I was there with my husband, and when we went back to pick out selections they had updated it to be somewhat more accurate (The D. Family). Jim, the owner, was straightforward when we spoke with him and offered a competitive price compared to the other estimates we received. After we accepted the contract, Jim's sister and the company designer, Kim, was particularly patient with us as we spent upwards of two hours picking out the various components for the new bathroom, successfully finding solutions to mediate style disagreements between me and my husband. Overall, we were both very happy with our selections and excited for the new bathroom to be complete. The workers were excellent and displayed great professionalism during the remodel. The work began in early December, but was stalled a little bit due to the cabinet and vanity not arriving in time. The bathroom was functional, though not finished, before the desired Christmas date. It has been three weeks since the job completed and we have been satisfied so far with the bathroom. With the work, there were two (both immediately fixed) problems that stood out: First, the new toilet was installed slightly at an angle. We emailed Cardigan of the problem. When they came out the next time to continue working on the bathroom, the worker immediately saw the toilet was not level, apologized that he didn't catch it when he installed it, and made the toilet level to the floor. Second, when we started using the shower a week after installation, the shower was draining extremely slowly. Again, I emailed and called regarding this issue, and they fixed it that day despite Jim attending a funeral that morning. One of the workers came by that evening with a snake and fixed the problem. I was extremely impressed at their responsiveness. Overall, I am giving five stars due to the personalization, work quality, responsiveness, professionalism of the workers, and our happiness with the final result. When we finally move on to remodeling our kitchen in a few years, we will definitely be looking at Cardigan. The attached pictures include a picture of the shower before the bathroom was painted, and a picture of the other side of the bathroom after all of the work was completed.

Unfortunately, soon after the toilet began leaking into my basement, luckily I caught it before it ruined my carpet, but it ruined the ceiling and they had to patch the ceiling. He is an excellent communicator, and his workers were not only courteous but very skilled at their respective jobs. He was able to finish my basement in a timely manner with high-quality materials. I could not be happier with the work Brown's Custom Contracting did within my home. Detailed Summary of My Experience: I contacted Jim initially just to get an estimate for finishing my basement, which was in a state that needed major work because the walls were made of cinderblock and the floors were complete concrete; it was a space that was probably best used for storage and I would not call it "comfortably livable." Jim arrived quickly for an estimate and helped me explore the possibilities of the space, even going so far as to note what would be difficult or expensive to pull off. Within days he provided an estimate for the job, which I found out during the process was a major ordeal involving many phases and individuals, so I'm impressed he was able to produce a price so quickly (and in the end it was an accurate price). I signed Jim up for the job because of his straightforward and pleasant attitude. In the weeks and months that followed (this was a major job, I want to note), Jim gave me frequent updates about what workers I could expect to come by and when/how-long they would be there. Every person who came onto the property was skilled and good about communicating what they would be working on, especially when they had questions about the possibilities of the space. Jim also handled all of the work involving the permits and he worked with the county to ensure everything was up to code. He also alerted me any time there was a change in plans or if there was a possibility of delay. Given how involved this basement-finish job was, there were plenty of opportunities for major hurdles, but the project was still completed in a timely manner, and it was always clear to me what was going on, what would happen next, etc. The final product is everything I could've wanted. Jim made efficient use of the space to make as much of it "comfortably livable" as possible. Even the water heater and HVAC unit were relocated with no diminishment in functionality just for the sake of making the basement as good as it could possibly be. I'm very pleased with the additional space my family has been given, and there isn't a single rough edge in the room. Jim's guys are the best and I highly recommend his service to anyone looking to improve their homes. I have included pictures of the job before and after just so you can see the quality of work.

It took a while to…read morecoordinate a time to meet with Jim, but he was very professional right from the start and provided the most competitive pricing for the job. As a property manager myself, I appreciated his clean contracting process - he'll print out two copies so both you and he can sign, he'll document the down payment amount and check number (and sign), he'll get his insurance agent to provide you with a COI right after, and keep you updated regularly throughout the project and will document any change orders with updated payment schedules. Our deck project became complicated by obvious grading/drainage issues and sunken footers at the adjacent porch that the deck is flush to, which caused our project cost to increase significantly. Some would say that the change in scope is a pricing tactic, and maybe it is for some, but not Jim. He carefully explained and showed us the issues, then helped prioritize them so we knew what really needed to be addressed and what could wait. His sub was great - always on time, productive as hell, and maintained a tidy worksite. You could tell the sub really cared about their work and Jim made it a point to stop by to check in. The end result is a beautiful deck that we cannot wait to furnish and use. The experience with Jim was so great that we will call him when we're ready to bid out our master bath and kitchen reno. He's a good human.

But I took a leap, came back, and tried this place again. My sales rep Andy was 100% better and really helped save the day! I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for tile work in their home or place of work.

Owner used every excuse from his son quoted it so it must be his sons fault, it was not his son that quoted. Then it must have been his cousin female that gave the wrong price. It was a simple match piece for the side of a vanity 4"by 22". Took no responsibility At all the entire discussion. I called twice after my son picked up the peice and paid, so I left a message which they didn't call back, then went up in person. Was given every excuse why it wasnt his fault. This is the owner, so you know he doesnt care about customers! Do yourself a favor go elsewhere!! Do not spend your hard earned money here. rating os 0 for taking advantage of customers. note to the owner that just responded- I would never asked for ANYTHING free (illogical)- just what I was was quoted for a simple 3 inchx 22 inch peice. I took time to visit your store to quote a price then go back and order, have my son pickup visit to finish the purchase. this exchange / unrealistic response that the customer is looking for free is UNTRUE, I asked for a reasonable pay for service that I quoted; in fact you claimed afterwards there is nothing less than $100 service minimum. Which again was not the quoted/ mentioned for I would have gone to lowes instead. But I wished to shop local businesses , which I now regret.

But when I reached out to Misha's Home Improvement, I received a prompt and courteous reply. We made an appointment to meet at my house. Misha arrived at the appointed time (to which I arrived late) he walked up to meet me, holding a clipboard and measuring tape in hand. We shook hands and I realized right away that I was dealing with someone of a higher caliber. When we walked through the house I stated my requirements only partially whereupon Misha offered ideas and options. Every room. Methodically. Misha took measurements and we parted company. I had no appreciation for how much information he was taking in during our visit. A few days later a detailed estimate landed in my inbox. Room by room. Item by item with materials and labor costs and a detailed drawing of the entire layout of the home with precise measurements. No BS. I was impressed. We agreed upon a start date and a pattern emerged. This guy and his extraordinary team of guys came to the house every day (sometimes on weekends) and proceeded to embark on a Whole House renovation. Craftsmen all. Courteous and respectful to a man. Windows, bathroom reno, kitchen reno, recessed lighting. wiring fixes with attention to code, basement tile, patio doors, drywall repair, custom closets. Change orders written and agreed upon - in advance. No surprises in our agreements or fees. In fact, where warranted Misha refunded me for materialis/labor that were not needed. Misha and the guys have completed the job and I have to say that I will truly miss them. True craftsmen. I will absolutely recommend this company of men and the man who runs this enterprise. I got very very lucky.

We hired this company to remodel our bathroom, and early on decided to include other rooms in the…read moreproject, which turned out to be a devastating experience. They caused a water leak from the second floor bathroom to the first floor, which damaged the ceiling downstairs; the tiling and grout in the bathroom was installed extremely uneven and crooked; they cracked the toilet sewage waste pipe while trying to uninstall the old flange; they installed a fractured joint for the new shower plumbing; and they used an older technology that most other contractors (that we've talked to to fix everything) no longer use to finish the shower pan. And that was just the bathroom!! In the other rooms, they damaged the doors while trying to install new door hinges and painted them with the wrong type of paint, the paint is peeling off on every door (not even two months after they were painted). The crew installed new ceiling lights (which we now have to pull a permit for ourselves since the contractor "didn't plan on doing it")(also they are an older canister style fixture that is still produced but not the most modern thing; they don't sit flush with the ceiling) that are not properly secured to the ceiling, so they pose a falling hazard, PLUS the crew removed the cases from each light fixture where the wires are supposed to be protected, so now there are exposed, very lightly protected wires that pose a fire hazard if their coating gets sheered (which is apparently pretty easy to do since the wires aren't properly protected), PLUS they failed to staple the wires down (despite repeated reassurances from the contractor that they had) which only exacerbates the previous issue of a potential fire hazard. In addition to the craftsmanship concerns, the contractor's crew was ultimately very unprofessional. They sat a heavy saw down on hardwood floor in one of the bedrooms and operated it there, causing noticeable scratches to the floor; they smoked indoors without any sort of permission; they threw cigarette butts in the driveway, street and flowerbed in front of the house; they used our personal gardening tools to mix concrete and then failed to wash the concrete off properly; they poured excess concrete next to the side of the house (where it solidified on the grass). Unbelievable.

We were looking for a semi-modern rancher that offered first level living and 9' ceilings throughout and privacy. This led us to building rather buying in a development. We looked at a number of options and Caruso won out. To us, Caruso offered a great mix of layout, quality of build, and value. The sales process was painful, though. You need to know that their model is like Spirit Airlines. The base build is really inexpensive but you need to plan for EVERY upgrade...even ones which are not on their pricing sheet. For example, recessed lighting, comfort height toilets, raised countertops, and the list goes on. We think we caught all items we thought would be either standard or packaged, but you need to be aware of their business / pricing model and mentally walk through every room and what you would expect it to have. Most of our sales team members left or were exited from Caruso during our build. All of that said, you live with the house built by the Project Manager. Preston / Caruso was awesome. He made a couple of great recommendations which increased our satisfaction in the house. We would have preferred a non-Spirit Airlines model, but we wouldn't change anything and think Caruso delivered on what we expected.
