So it can really be hit or miss with this place. Tonight's they were on point! Food was good, server, Courtney, was great. Mood track brownie- delicious!! I'm trying to cut meat out of my diet- no food with a face- so there was basically nothing in the menu for me but a salad, minus the bacon and ham, and creamed spinach. Oh- and the brownie. I had to wait 30 minutes for a take out order. The order was prime rib medium. I had ordered it 45 minutes prior to pick up time. The prime rib was well done without much flavor and slightly warm. The baked potato was cold but the salad was excellent. The manager apologised for the delay. It was obvious they needed more employees. This was one of my favorite restaurant prior to the covid epidemic. Prior food and service was excellent. I will wait a few weeks and try again. On a Thursday, around 11:30, a group of us went to eat. We wanted to celebrate the end of the school year. There was about 20 teachers in our group, but we called ahead to make reservations! They knew we were coming. We were seated quickly and the staff was very friendly. However, our food and service could have been much better. Half of us didn't get our food for nearly an hour. Those of us who did get our food, were not satisfied. One teacher was served overcooked fries and undercooked chicken. One teacher had to take a to-go box, because everyone was finished by the time her food arrived. We looked forward to this dinner, without our students, for weeks. The poor teacher who did all the planning to make it happen looked so disappointed by the end! I probably should give a lower rating but I am trying to be gracious and understanding. Worst steak I've ever eaten... seriously! I ordered the 8oz filet cooked medium rare. The color and temperature looked perfect, but it tasted like it had been soaking in some kind of kitchen cleaner. Unfortunately, by the time I noticed the odd flavor of my steak I had already notified my server of the under-cooked potato that I was served, so I was not about to send the steak back too. I simply asked for steak sauce (which I have never done before) and choked it down along with the slightly better replacement potato. The salad was good though! I've eaten at a Copper River before and had a decent experience, so I did not check Yelp before coming to this location... BIG MISTAKE! I now see why they have such a low rating on Yelp. Update: While my last review likely focused on what is good, this one will have to focus on what is bad. I likely mentioned in many reviews that having an overly large menu with little direction as to the style, the IDENTITY of the restaurant is, going from Italian to seafood fry. Well, after throwing up twice on the way home and tons when I got home I can say stay away from the seafood. What made me this sick in particular was the fried flounder. It was served soft and soggy, had a "seafood" smell and for those that don't know, when it smells like "seafood", it's old food. Since the party I was with didn't want to wait for me to promptly send it back I decided to try to eat some hoping it wasn't my foodie side of me coming out. Yep, I was right. When I called to tell them about my experience and to check the fish to make sure it's good before serving it to another person they basically (and very nicely) said a little, etc but did not apologize for my meal. I didn't even want any freebies, at that point it was about people's health. Stick to their pizzas, soups and salads. Thus far on my excruciating adventure of finding anything else to go there for has been all for naught. This place was great all around from the hostess all the way up. They were very concerned to make sure I enjoyed my food and extremely polite. 5star customer service. The house salad was loaded with toppings, bacon, eggs tomatoes all super fresh. Our server, Cassidy was super sweet. She recommended the house dressing, which was amazing.. Although the blackened chicken Alfredo came out with a little less flavor than expected. Yuck. The only reason I'm giving two stars is the decor and the pizza. Such an adorable setting, and very clean. Our server was terrible and had no knowledge of the menu. Every time I come to Copper River Grill, I get 3 star service and food. 5 stars for consistency. This past time, I had 1) dirty silverware (found some clean ones after searching), 2) lukewarm fries, and 3) crab shells in my crab-stuffed flounder. They brought me fresh fries (although undercooked ) so that got 3 stars. The chef came with the fries and apologized about the crab shells. Something like, I'm sorry, I hope it didn't ruin your meal, we switched from red-shelled to blue-shelled so they have softer shells so it's easier to miss the shells. No offer to refund or replace. So that attempted apology/excuse got 3 stars. Also, they didn't clean the crabs that well, so I had a little grit in my teeth while chewing. Overall, I've learned to play it safe at Copper River Grill. I've been to 2 locations, and I'd say order something that can't be easily messed up. read more

Very limited menu and although we live close by and have been many times we have had mixed experiences both with the found and the waitstaff. Once I ordered the filet which is the most expensive thing on the menu. it came to the table raw so was sent back and then it came back charred and burnt and took over an hour to come back. This was the absolute worst experience of our life this was disgusting. The salmon that my husband got was not cooked at all in the middle it was pure raw!! The waiter apologized but then we had to wait another 20 minutes for my husband to get his food while we had to eat so our food will not get cold. My husband did not want his food once I got there because he was disgusted at taking bites of the edges from the other salmon. The waiter did I apologize but that was it. No manager came over to speak with us and we had to pay for his entire dinner that he did not eat. Got a free dinner from a vendor. Aesthetically, the inside is dark but still welcoming. Dark woods surround the entire, cavernous restaurant while high ceilings make the large dining area seem even larger. I had the caesar salad and the baby backs. The caesar was good, somewhat creamy dressing along with a croissant-type bread with a sweet topping drizzled over the top - both were good. The baby backs were *almost* fall off the bone, the meat kinda smoky and the sauce a was a little tangy and good. All in all, a good, filling meal that made the belly happy. Copper River is my favorite place to eat in the Spartanburg SC area. The food is always prepared perfectly. It's a great place to take our friends and family. The Bible tells us to "Eat, Drink, and be Merry" and this place is the perfect venue to make that happen. We highly reccomend this place. read more

Served salmon that smelt and tasted like a dirty fish tank and completely raw inside. Not sure how this left the kitchen. Immediately called the restaurant where a lady answered and was extremely rude, spoke over me when I was explaining what items were missing. Had a reservation for party of nine. We were seated and served promptly. Menu had lots of options, typical American fare. We ordered everything from steak, seafood to pasta. Appetizer choices are not to be missed. I highly recommend the crab dip. All the entrees were excellent, fried Tilapia just average. One steak was cooked medium rather than medium well. We sent it back. Manager personally brought it to the table to make sure we were satisfied. Waitress was excellent. Staff seemed to genuinely enjoy working there. They functioned well as a team. I highly suggest any of the sides. The cheese mashed potatoes and reds are the best. Finished the meal with Alaska Pizza for dessert. Left full and satisfied. We will return. read more

Slow to get salad, food, a to go drink after no refills were offered. 1st baked potato mostly hard black areas; 2nd baked potato room temperature...dead giveaway when butter does not begin to melt. Plus menu clearly states that you can order up to 2 side salads for $3.99 each for each entree. We were charged $4.99 for "side salad as entree." Bummer. I understand that during this time most restaurants are under staffed. I also know that the normal bartender is over worked & overwhelmed. I know these things because I call, to attempt to place an order, once a week. We order the same thing, 2 chicken tender salads. Nothing different. I have called in once a week for most of the summer. Usually, I get left on hold from the time I leave work until I arrive at the restaurant. I then go in & find at least 1 hostess checking her face book. I don't even ask to place an order i just make my way to the bar. Order my salads & drink a beer while I wait. Tonight however, I called was asked to hold & hung up on, after 7 min. I called back. Again asked to hold & held for 8 min & hung up on . I called back... asked to hold & stayed on hold for 14 min then switched to an automated system to leave a voice message & was then hung up on. I was in the restaurant business for approximately 20 years. I know things happen. People call out, supplies run short, weather knocks the power out. I really do understand. I was completely taken off guard tonight. I couldn't believe this happened 3 time in a row. I truly love the location but I will no longer be a patron. But, that doesn't make it bad, they may not have a huge menu full of eye widening selections but what they do make, they make really well! The portions are large as well, so go hungry! Third time it was totally rare. We dined at Copper River Grill on Friday 27 February while visiting my parents who live in Taylors, SC. They had been to Copper River previously and were excite to take my wife, daughter and I there to celebrate my Dad's birthday. We called ahead for seating, and it's a good thing we did as there was an hour wait for people who had not called ahead - even at 8pm! We only had to wait about 10 minutes and used that time to grab some drinks at the bar. First impression of the restaurant was a good one. It's a very open-air atmosphere. And even though smoking is permitted it was not obvious that was the case (something I always check on when we have our 3-yr old with us). Our server was Chris, and he did a pretty good job with our table. Nothing on the wine list really caught our attention so we stuck with beer. The salads were all delicious - very fresh as the previous reviewer stated. The house dressing (honey mustard with bacon) is a must! The salads are also served with croissants covered in honey - different, but tasty albeit a bit sticky. My dad and I had the fish special of the day which was blackened Mahi Mahi. My dad liked it more than I, but I did enjoy it. I was expecting more spice and flavor based on Chris's description when he told us about it. The baked potato I had as a side was quite good. My mom had the Hickory Salmon which she said was excellent. My wife had the ribs, which she said were good but not the best she's had (There's a place by us in the DC area called Sweetwater Tavern that has the BEST ribs!). Our daughter ordered the Grilled Cheese with French fries which didn't come out until 20 minutes after the rest of our meals - my only real complaint about the experience. Fortunately, she doesn't eat much as it is and was able to much on the other things on the table. The portions were all very large, and we left with 2 to-go boxes much like everyone else we saw! We were all too stuffed to even consider a "table-sized" dessert. Bottom line: Copper River is a great place for a family meal. Good food in a casual atmosphere with pleasant service.
