I am an absolute lover of small town diners, as the reflect the culinary taste of the locals, are in tune with the "pulse" of the community. If the restaurant is near a freeway, you can factor in the fine tastes of truckers, fifth-wheelers, law enforcement and any traveler who has good taste in fine dining. Copper Kettle Cafe, located in Wendover, UT, is just off busy I-80, and serves amazing diner cuisine, and offers something for every appetite and taste. As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the counter - a trademark of a fine diner - along with the "Please Wait to be Seated" sign. The cashier station is out of the photo to the left, and the friendly cashier also does duty as the greater/seater, and will sit you at an open booth or table. The dining room furniture is a mixture of tables and booths. During these days of the COVID-19 virus, half of the tables and booths have been blocked off, to allow for "social distancing. My friend ordered the "Country Fried Steak," from the "Breakfast" menu. The menu describes his steak as, "6-oz Angus cube steak seasoned, breaded, then deep fried to a crispy golden brown. Smothered with country gravy and served with two eggs any style and toast and jelly. Like my breakfast, my friend's breakfast featured a beautiful presentation, which must be a trademark of Copper Kettle Cafe. I went with "Steak and Eggs," with an optional side of gravy, which is the perfect way to get your morning started in Wendover, UT. The menu describes the breakfast as, "8-oz top sirloin steak, with 2 eggs any style, with your choice of toast and jelly, or corn or flour tortillas." I hadn't had toast for at least a couple of weeks, so I went with sourdough toast, rather than my de facto standard of tortillas. The "main attraction" of my breakfast centered on the 8-oz sirloin steak, and I requested my steak cooked medium, and my steak arrived perfectly cooked medium, just like I ordered it. The steak was slightly seasoned, tender and juicy, and you really didn't need a knife to cut it, as the fork worked perfectly. It was simply delicious! The "benchmark" to judge a great breakfast chef is when you order eggs over easy, they arrive cooked, over easy, and not hard nor broken. My eggs arrived over easy... the chef has talent. My order of hash brown potatoes were cooked to a crispy golden on the outside, and tender and chewy on the inside, the way hash browns are meant to be cooked. The sourdough toast was perfectly toasted and arrived with a package of butter and a package of strawberry jelly. I buttered my toast and left the jelly on the side. The optional bowl of gravy was a wonderful addition to my breakfast, as the gravy was creamy, smooth, well-textured, and there were lots of small chunks of sausage. Mmmmm... The restaurant didn't charge extra for the optional bowl of gravy! Thank you! Copper Kettle Cafe is a favorite of the Wendover locals, and a favorite stop for truckers, law enforcement, and travelers along nearby Interstate 80. Drive all day from Colorado and looked what was going to be open in Wendover area when I arrived. Looked forward to having a nice dinner across from my booked hotel room and not wanting to go to a Casino just to grab a quick bite. Called at 6:45 pm and was told they were closing early because business was slow .... Asked if I could order a quick salad or something to go so they could close being I was across the street. Pretty decent Mexican food! The beans were good. The rice was a bit dry but had a good flavor. I had chicken quesadillas. Normally I just get plain quesadillas but these were actually really tasty! This is one of the best restaurants available in the Nevada-Utah border. It is a pretty cool place. We parked our car in Nevada and walked over to Utah to this restaurant (just 0.7 miles - pretty cool though) Every restaurant available around these areas are Mexican and Taco place, so it is very rare to find any other restaurants (may be except those buffet inside those Casinos) The waitress was friendly and we were seated immediately. I ordered the Chicken Fajitas, which was similar to any other Mexican Fajitas. We also ordered a biscuit and gravy without the meat since my friend was Vegan. It was tasty and yummy. I also ordered the Kids pancakes (just 2 small pancakes) Why not? Just because I craved for some sweet pancakes. Since there are not many local breakfast restaurants in the area we decided to go here, and to be honest it's really good and the prices were pretty reasonable for the food. Also, the service was fast. I only have to comments and I hope it will change with time. One, they need to change their tables our table was moving, and second don't use microwave to melt the cheese other than that i would say it the best breakfast place in that Wendover. This was a great find considering our only options in the area were fast food or casino restaurants. It appears to be family owned and I always like to support small businesses. We were greeted with smiles. Service wasn't very fast, but I also appreciate not being rushed sometimes. There were lots of options on the menu and a board with specials too. The prices were more than fair. We were brought complimentary chips and salsa. The homemade salsa had a nice kick to it and I could've eaten a whole bowl of it myself! I opted for the chicken fajitas. The plate of food was huge! It was so good! I felt bad that I couldn't finish it all because it was so good. You know that age old saying, right? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, they were right! They also didn't take into consideration that breakfast is much more important when you stay up til 3 in the morning casino hopping and go to bed at 4! I did some Yelp research before we even left for our trip and had this spot bookmarked. I knew this is where we were having breakfast well before we showed up. Saturday morning, we woke up around 9:30 and felt like we were starving! We arrived around 10 and only a few people were in the restaurant. I ordered the chorizo skillet breakfast special and my wife ordered an omelet. For those reviewers who complained about how long it took for food to hit the table, allow me to assist. They REALLY cook here! When you REALLY cook, it takes some time for food to arrive. Same goes at home, right? I can't snap my fingers and have perfectly cooked over medium eggs, am I right? So, sit back, relax, discuss how exciting it was to win $32.78 on the penny slots last night and let the cook do his thing. My skillet hit the table and the aroma of freshly cooked chorizo smacked me in the face! As I poked at my over medium eggs, the beautiful ooey, gooey yolky goodness oozed out on the chorizo and peppers and it was a thing of beauty. Perfectly cooked over medium eggs are difficult to pull off unless you actually know how to cook. Here? The cook knows how to cook and when I open my restaurant some day, I may ask him to join me. As we were waiting patiently for food to arrive, my wife got a glimpse into the back of the house. She saw a woman making fresh tortillas! Fresh. Tortillas. Folks! That is above and beyond for a small restaurant and as I ate my chorizo skillet breakfast tacos, I appreciated the effort that much more. We had a groundhog day moment because we arrived Sunday morning at 11:15, but this time, the place was packed! Everyone in town was here! I ordered a chorizo omelet and it was exceptional. We absolutely love this place and can't wait to come back again. I think it is going to be a few years before we return and I can see myself splurging for a trip to Vegas before a return trip to Wendover. Again, because it begs repeating., Tip your servers well please! They bust their hump for us and we have high expectations. The food was great and brought back memory of when I was younger and went to a lot of burger joints. I had the mushroom Swiss burger and my wife had the Monte Cristo. Very good choices. The bury was large and had a good layer of mush pans onions. It came with lettuce, tomato slices and dill pickle slices. I ate them separately since it would have made a giant of a burger. The Monte Cristo had a light sprinkle of powdered sugar to give it a light sweet taste. Great place great food. Highly recommend. read more

When I asked the waiter if I could have 1 of each tortillas he says "NO, we. Stopped by on the beginning of our COVID 2020 road trip. This year we are heading to places where there are more antelopes and elk than people. But before hitting the lonesome highways of the Mountain West, i needed my requisite chicken fried steak and eggs (better start off with that before I pass the last cardiologist). As we were about to exit Nevada, the Copper Kettle looked to have a solution to my problem .... and boy did they ever! It was 2pm and I ordered their breakfast chicken fried steak and eggs and it was very good! No it was downright damn delicious!! Eggs over medium cooked to perfection, hash browns with just the right amount of crispy and chicken fried steak smothered in gravy, properly beaten into tender submission. The perfect mid day breakfast lunch combo. Yes I needed a dose of caffeine to revive me from the post lunch crash but this tasty meal nourished me for the next 500 miles. The service was excellent, the place was clean and the staff all wore their masks in respect of good guidance from our public policy experts. No they were not dissuaded by the leader of the flat earth society in the White House. So if you're looking for a proper breakfast or lunch while on your visit to or trip past Wendover, NV, stop by the Copper Kettle. read more

SCAM ALERT: I tipped $0 after the poor utterly terribly service and they added a $4.00 tip afterwards to my credit card without authorization. See the picture for proof. My total went from $10.71 to $14.71 once posted. This was not authorized. This restaurant is so shady and terrible. UPDATE: they tried to charge us for the replacement fries that we asked them to make after they served us trash fries that were old, limp and freezing cold. The reason was that they "had to make new ones." Spoiler alert, they were greasy and just as bad. When trying to charge us, they said "they don't make replacements for bad food." What a joke. This place is a trashy nightmare. The burgers are frozen pre-formed patty's, the fries were cold and limp, my mushroom burger had two mushroom slices on it, the buns were soggy right when I got my food, the onions on the burger were cold and neither crisp nor properly grilled, just in the middle. The restaurant was dingy, poorly lit, and there were lots of visible dust particles in the air. The worst part was our waiter. He didn't come to our table for ten minutes with only two other tables (and another server). He took forever to bring our drinks. He brought our gross food and then never came back. We waved for him to come over to the table and several times he saw us, ignored us blatantly, and continued with his tasks. We literally had to holler across the room to be acknowledged. When we mentioned the fries, he didn't even apologize or care. He just replaced them and still didn't say anything about it. The replacement fries were covered in visible oil all over and still cooked poorly. Nobody here seems to care about anything. I would literally rather eat from a vending machine before coming back here. If you're forced to come, order the chicken strips. At least they are frozen and aren't messed up too badly. read more

We ate here for dinner and breakfast during our night stay in Wendover. Wait staff were very nice both visits. Both meals were tasty. My husband liked his omelet, and they easily accommodated my kid's request for egg white only in his kid's breakfast (which was very generously sized!). The fries were quite good, too. Disappointed in my visit to this restaurant. I ordered a club sandwich with fries, to go. First of all I was overcharged and did not realize this until it was too late to rectify. The club is advertised on their menu as $8 and served with salad or fries. I was charged $12. Second, my meal was bland and mediocre. The fries did not have a hint of salt and since it was to go, I did not have the opportunity to add salt myself. The sandwich itself was pretty mediocre, and it is tough to screw up what is basically a cold cut sandwich. The meats were cheap cuts, especially the ham which was of the pressed or processed variety. Bread was poor quality. And everything was piled in the middle of the sandwich giving me four corners of just bread. Not my idea of a good lunch. My guess is that it is better to stick to the Mexican dishes. read more

For a small town restaurant, it was a legit spot to eat during a busy speed week. I really enjoyed the chicken fried steak and fries. It wasn't dry or chewy, it was cooked just right for to enjoy the juicy flavor. The burgers are good no complaints from others that I ate with. Fast service, but the only down fall was the wait with limited seating inside. As a result, they had to split my party of 7 between two different areas to sit. They mismanaged the seating of having two people at the larger tables where it could of sat all of us. They were afraid to politely ask if they could move to one of the tables that was given to us. They didn't receive their food yet either. That was the only gripe I have, other than the food was great. read more
