Naturally they claim several reasons for this decision basically that we "are not in their network"! Obviously that is open to interpretation. We are covered by Baylor Scott & White Advantage Senior Care because we are in our 70s and on Social Security Medicare Medicade. The first 9 years we had commercial insurance thru our employers. Last year we did not have insurance yet due to a waiting period. I went to Wilkin and had to pay cash because I am a diabetic and I had to have my diabetic eye exam for my regular doctor. I paid them $125 for the routine exam and also $40 for the OPTIMAT test that is for Diabetics. Wilkin changed insurance plans 2-3 times on us during our time there. on 2 occasions they stopped taking our insurance and luckily we were able to switch to our OTHER employer plan, just to get an appointment. We dont get eye exams just to see if we need glasses - I have to have the annual exam for my diabetes! yesterday we confirmed that our plan WAS ACCEPTABLE at any optometrist office IN OR OUT OF NETWORK! The plan documents we have states that in writing! We have now spoken to several people with Baylor Scott and White and they state that it SHOULD HAVE read that it was designed for in network doctors and the paperwork needed to be changed??? I personally spoke to a supervisor and then a Manager at BS&W offices and explained that they were required to pay any doctor until the new wording was in place - LEGALLY! I added that if they did not assist us that we could file a claim with the DOI (Department of Insurance) in Austin, and a second one with Social Security who governs these plans. I was quickly told that would NOT be necessary and they would honor our claim for my exam with any optometrist until the plan is ratified and reissued in probably 30 days. I did tell them that DAVID at Wilkins office stated they had NO WAY to file a claim because they were not in network??? The manager stated all they had to do was contact their claims division and they would give them the billing info and their address. They admitted this was a unique situation but THEY WOULD PAY THEIR CLAIM! We only spoke to David who claims he is over insurance. I did request to speak to Dr Bret Wilkins but was denied access! I did make a final offer to David after asking again to speak with the Doctor at his time and was not able to speak with Mr Bret. I had the utmost respect for Dr Bret over the last 10 years but refusing to even talk to me was not acceptable. David was very aloof during a 30 minute call with him and my wife and didn't seem to care we needed their services. All he kept saying was were sorry but we can't see you. As a last resort we made an offer to him. I told him I would be happy to give him my bank card information and if our claim was denied for ANY REASON I would give them written permission to charge my bank card for the full amount immediately! All we asked was a copy of the denial so we could go against BS&W with the DOI in Austin and with the Social Security Admin in Washington! David just said again "Sorry we have no way to file on your insurance" which is NOT CORRECT! As I stated before we found David very poor at understanding and customer relations. I remember him well because every time we were examined the Doctor sends you to David to pay and then listen to his SALES PITCHES TO GET YOU TO BUY GLASSES FROM THEM! I had to tell him around year 4 or 5 that we would never get glasses there because they were anywhere from 20% to 40% higher that other retailers on similar style glasses. After that time we never got the hard sell after our appointment. ** Last note: one of the supervisors at BS&W spoke to us on the condition of anonymity. He told my wife and I that they researched Dr Wilkins office site and found that they DO NOT ACCEPT ANY Senior Advantage Plans thru ANY company??? Seniors take notice you need to see if you are out in the cold like we are! We have to wonder why that is the case?? Maybe that is why in 10 years we never saw any seniors in the practice when we were there. We started there because our daughter Wendy Tabraham and her family were patients there. They moved out of state when we signed on at Wilkins! They are getting ready to move back to Texas in our area from Colorado. when we told them about all this Wendy was shocked and told us they would definately would not return to Wilkins either! Sad situation, but we were asked by the Manager at BS&W would we go back to Wilkins if they spoke to the Doctor? We both agreed that we still like Dr Wilkins but having to deal with David in their office is a deal breaker for us.

When we see him we…read moremust travel from our home in Baltimore, Maryland to Texas, but the travel is worth it because Dr. G has a patented technique for designing and manufacturing scleral lenses that are individually designed for each patient. These are the only type of lenses that have successfully corrected her vision. Since we live in Baltimore, the home of the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University (JHU), it was natural for us to first seek treatment at JHU, but they were unable to adequately fix her vision. We then found Dr. G and he performed a miracle with his lenses. When we returned to Baltimore with my wife's corrected vision and told the physicians at JHU that Dr. G in Texas corrected her vision problem, they asked to see her lenses, and they were amazed at what Dr. G had done and admitted they cannot duplicate his results, so we continue to see Dr. G whenever we need an adjustment or 'fine tuning' due to my wife's changing medical condition. We will continue seeing him when necessary, and continue to amaze the doctors at JHU where we go for our annual checkups. The wavefront technology used by Dr. G is unique to the profession, and is patented by Dr. G, so his scleral lenses are designed to a precision that is, as far as we know, unavailable anywhere else.

This has made my eyes extremely light sensitive and its difficult for me to leave my home, look at computers, or do many of the things that most people can do with ease. I also have Lyme disease which is probably why my Lasik didn't turn out very well. I got Prose lenses 5 years ago through a clinic at UCSF and found them to help both my SLK And Neuropathy, but this past year or two they became uncomfortable to the point that I couldn't wear them. I found out that replacing them would cost 20,000 which was impossible for me, so I researched a little bit online, and found out about Dr. Gemoules. I was excited because it sounded like his lenses would fit better and would be one fifth of the price of replacing my Prose.  So in March I flew to Dallas and spent 5 days getting fit for my lenses, and I have to say the results have been really wonderful. The first pair of lenses that he had me try on were more comfortable than my Prose and that was just the first pair he made. He made me a total of 5 pairs until he got the most comfortable fit, with a coating that makes it so that I can barely feel them, even when I blink. They are also slightly smaller than my Prose in diameter, which makes them more comfortable and easier to put in. Overall my experience going to see Dr. Gemoules was wonderful. He is a really kind hearted person, he listened to what I had to say, and he made sure I left with the most comfortable pair of contacts that I possibly could. I am up to wearing them as much as 14 hours a day now, I am able to go outside and enjoy the day in ways I could never before when the sunlight hurt my eyes too much. For the last year or so I was basically a shut in because of my eye conditions, and now I am outside every day sometimes 5 to 7 hours. I can't recommend Dr. Gemoules highly enough and I can't thank him enough for what he did for me.

I purchased many a pair here without incident…read more Occasionally an issue would arise but it was never anything worth discontinuing my patronage over. I only changed stores because I moved. Recently I found myself back at this location to get glasses for my son. The initial visit was uneventful and we were in and out quickly. Nearly 4 weeks later the only communication I had received from them was an emailed progress report that simply read "order delayed" with no other details. This prompted me to call the store to inquire about the status. In the past, orders only took that long because the glasses weren't made correctly the first time around so I assumed this was the case again. However, the only explanation for the delay this time was that they must have gotten lost in the mail. The person at the store was unapologetic, yet did proceed to reorder them. She said she had no idea when the glasses would be ready but promised to call me the moment they arrived. That never happened. Instead, I had to contact them after nearly 2 weeks with no word on the order just to find out that the 2nd pair was already in the store. To their credit they did grant my request to start the 12 month warranty from the time I actually received the glasses as opposed to the original order date which was over a month prior. I'm fully aware that these locations are merely store fronts and no longer make the glasses in house like they once did, therefore production or shipping mistakes aren't necessarily their fault. Given that, it makes their role as customer service providers that much more important. It wasn't until I went to the Grapevine location where I received better service from the staff and management that I was enlightened to what I was missing. I will stick to using that location for all future purchases.
