8.6.26 (Really should be ZERO STARS!) My family came here for dinner. We "were" excited because it was close to where we were staying and the parking lot was packed several times when we drove by. When we drove up 2 employees were coming from under the building having a smoke break laughing and giggling. They walked upstairs and we never saw them again. When we walked in there were only 2 tables with customers, no bartender, no hostess at the stand, no employees anywhere so we just stood there waiting. After 5 minutes someone appears and sits us at a table 5 steps away from where we had been standing. (Also, you know when you walk into a restaurant you expect it to smell like good food or at least like food....well this place did not smell like any food at all) (This made me nervous) We needed to use the diaper changing station in the women's restroom well, it was in a bathroom stall and the door was locked. We did not know if someone was using the stall or if it was out of order. We knocked and knocked and no one answered. We came out and asked our server (who appeared after we had been sitting there for 15 minutes!) if it was out of order or what. She said she was not sure and had to go ask her manager. She disappear. Came back for our drink order and we asked what she found out what the restroom - oh she forgot to ask. She laughed and left again to go ask. W H A T! Also it was a Thursday evening and they are suppose to have some kind of steak special on Thursdays but we ask her what was the price and she said, "we don't really know the price", "It will be somewhere around $40-$50 or something like that." (Rolling my eyes) At this point we had been there for 25 minutes and no drinks, still waiting on the answer if the bathroom is out of order so we can use the changing station, no food has come out of the kitchen to the other customers or no real price for the steaks. Nice restaurant across the highway on Galveston island set up high so to offer an ocean view in the distance. Staff were very friendly and our eating at 4 pm was excellent in avoiding the crowds. Interior was clean and inviting with a nice bar. Had the SeaBass and it was carefully artistically presented. The red fish with crab was also quite tasty. A nice relaxing meal. Went to Cooper's Landing for a casual lunch. Overall, it was a decent experience. Not the best, but still enjoyable. We started with the fried calamari. It was thicker than what I'm used to but in a good way. The texture and flavor made it different, it's topped with parmesan cheese. I also ordered the caramelized brussels sprouts which was the best part of my meal. They were crispy and flavored with a hot bacon vinaigrette. My husband ordered the grilled salmon dish which he said he enjoyed. Service was solid. He was friendly and attentive which always goes a long way when you're in a new place. He made us feel comfortable. Cooper's Landing used to be a burger joint. After the transformation, it's now a slightly upscale coastal dining restaurant. read more

I started with the mini crab cakes which were wonderful. I also had a side salad which was fresh and crisp. I highly recommend the bacon vinaigrette for a dressing. I then had the NY Strip with fresh vegetables and grilled shrimp. The vegetables and shrimp were fresh and delicious. The steak was very tender and well seasoned. The restaurant location is on the quieter end of town and has a clean modern atmosphere with good views of the beach and surf. Chris H. was our server. OK....We've been to Cooper's Landing many times. This time it was for our anniversary. The cocktails were amazing and the atmosphere top notch. We started with the lobster bisque and it was delicious. My wife commented that she believes Cooper's Landing is Galveston's best kept secret. Despite the amazing food and service we've never had to wait for a table. I had the NY Strip and it's was delicious and perfectly cooked. My wife had the Coconut Encrusted Snapper and Shrimp and she loved it. Our server Kadyn was attentive, courteous, and efficient. He's definitely a 5-star server. I guess my only takeaway came when I asked for salt and pepper. The salt shaker arrived clogged and encrusted. Now I live on the beach, so I know how humidity affects salt, but this is a classy place and they could pay a bit more attention to overcoming this challenge. It's possible with a bit of attention. But overall, another wonderful evening at this well designed place. We'll definitely be back. read more

While staying at an Airbnb on the beach with my parents and our pups, we noticed that Cooper's Landing was right by us and looked like a great place to grab dinner at. There weren't many people there when we arrived but the inside was pretty so we were happy to dine in. We were seated quickly at a table near the bar and our drink order was taken. All of the servers were friendly and the service was generally good. For the meals, my mother and I ordered the sea bass and my dad ordered the burger. The food looked great upon arrival and that was a definite plus! The key reason for my dad ordering the burger was that it came with an over easy egg on it and he'd never seen that as an option before. When the burger arrived and he tried it, he commented on how dry the burger was which made us ask the server about the egg. We were informed he "was supposed to have been told that the restaurant is out of eggs" but that there was nothing that could be done now. It was a bit frustrating and he didn't enjoy the burger because of it. As for the sea bass and sides, it was an OK dish but was far from one of the better ones I've tried. At the end of the meal, we did see that they added a credit (of about $2.50) for the egg which seemed ridiculous and not even worth doing at that point. All in all, the experience and food wasn't bad but it also isn't a place I'd visit again considering the price/ value of the meal. read more

One of my favorite places to eat on the west end. Nice view of the beach and great patio area. Food is exceptional, but you pay the price for it. But it is cheaper than San Louis, Pier 13, Galvez and other higher price places with food that is just as good. My favorite dinner is the scallops, but for lunch, it is the chicken fried steak. It was the best shrimp we had in Galveston. Lightly breaded fresh shrimp with just a little Bang Bang Sauce. Best I have had anywhere!!! My husband got the Gumbo and he thought it was very good. I loved the presentation with the mini Tabasco Sauce bottle. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Scallops. The flavor was good but they weren't really wrapped in bacon. It was like they placed each slice to circle around the scallops. A bit of a disappointment. I got mashed potatoes and veggies with it. The veggies were cooked to perfection and really delicious. The mashed potatoes came with a white gravy that was not mentioned on the menu. The second star of the meal was my husband's dinner. He ordered the Seafood Pasta with Marinara Sauce. They have two other sauces you could choose from as well. As soon as they placed his dish on the table I KNEW it was going to be amazing! Solid chunks of shrimp, scallops and swig. Swig was new to us. Our waitress told us it was Japanese catfish. My husband really liked it and stated how flavorful it was. I got to taste his dish and it was yummy! We both agreed the sauce made all the difference. It is what I would call New England Tomato Sauce. If you know, you know. Sort of like a real Italian grandmother would make. We also both noticed that the dish was not overloaded with pasta which is what is usually done. No, the pasta accompanied the seafood not the other way around. Perfect!!! We asked for bread and the waitress asked us if we wanted the garlic bread and we declined saying we just wanted bread or rolls. She suggested the sourdough bread and we agreed. It came out as two slices of sourdough toast! Hmm??? That was fine. Not a problem at all. Just a bit odd. Since we were on vacation, we will not be back till next year but we know we will be ordering the Bang Bang Shrimp and the Seafood Pasta with Marinara Sauce!!! We will dream about it till then. What they did good was exceptionally good! Probably better than anyone else in the area. Beware that there are many stairs to get to the door. Not a problem for most people but just wanted to make everyone aware. We chose to sit outside on the enclosed deck which was a rather casual room. BUT!! Next time we will be dining in the main dining room which has white table cloths and an elevated ambiance that their food deserves!!! read more

We ordered a lobster bisque as well with some calamari as an appetizer. For the entrees we got a seafood pasta and a seared tuna since we were 4 people. The ones pictured were fine and the calamari was perfectly crispy, but the lobster bisque was way too salty. On the other hand the seared tuna didn't exactly taste fresh, and was very greasy. Terrible service. Mediocre food at best. Extremely overpriced. Took us 25 minutes for anyone to get any service. Not even a water. We had to ask for a server to come see us. Food took forever for it to come. It wasn't great. Not good enough to make up for the terrible service. When we got the bill, they had charged us for an extra entree. Very terrible business. Also it was hot and muggy in the restaurant. I don't expect this place to be open very long. I would have rather eaten at a gas station by the sea wall. I've been here a couple times now and I really like it. It's fairly new and it's great because it's on the west side of the island which has limited choices. I love that their seating is indoor, outdoor and indoor/outdoor (sort of like an enclosed deck with windows). Very nice depending on your mood (or the weather). The staff is very friendly and attentive. They have a pretty extensive menu (pics attached). Dinner can be a bit pricey, but lunch is very affordable. Both of my visits were during lunch. Lunch is from 11am-4pm At lunch, we've tried: - the Chicken Melt -- chicken breast (grilled or fried, I got grilled); havarti cheese, bacon, lettuce and avocado on sour dough served w/fries (pic attached). I left off the pesto mayo I really enjoyed this sandwich - shrimp po boy (pic attached) served w/fries. Not bad, but typical - grilled salmon served w/ mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. I substituted mashed potatoes with extra vegetables (pic attached). I asked for the salmon to be cooked medium and it was perfect (pic attached). Cooper's Landing is one of the better restaurants on the west side of the Galveston Island. Quality craft cocktails, wine list, and lunch and dinner menus that feature seafood, steaks, pastas. We dined there are New Years Eve/my beau's bday, and we started the early dinner with Greek salad (needed a lot more feta and olives), the hot crab and shrimp dip, and Shrimp Kisses. I ordered the linguini and clams diablo - a house favorite; my girlfriend ordered the same but opted to switch sauces to a garlic butter; and my beau went for a steak. They have weekly specials, like, Monday - kids eat free! (with adult entree purchase), Tuesday Burger Day, etc.... Social hour: Mon-Fri 2-6pm with $5 wells, $6 wines and bubbles, $8 select craft cocktails, $1 off beers (and beers are pretty cheap to begin with), and small plate menu. There's bar, dining room, and covered patio seating (this resto used to be a German-themed burger bar... though I can't remember the name, as it was only opened a few months out of the year). Good selection of additive free tequila and mezcal too. Happy with my app of mini crab cake, dipping in their sauce is a must, takes this dish from ahrite to pretty good,. Uneven food and poor service (although the servers are friendly) were the main issues at Cooper's. What's good: cocktails, wedge salad and fried shrimp. What's not: much of the fried seafood platter, sides, and prime rib. Service is slow and we were ignored much of the meal while servers chatted up other tables. Not recommended.
