Fourth year visiting Helen, and we always choose Cool River. Their locations are so convenient and their process is smooth. $14 gives you a ride on the river - same price if you choose long or short ride - and your tube. You get a wristband, and then a bus ride to the drop off. The river is beautiful! And so fun. There does seem to be more trash in the water this year than in the last years we were here, but my hope is they clean it up.

We had a party of 4 with 2 of them not really wanting to go tubing, yet I made them go anyways and that ended up being the best part of our trip for everyone. Very fun. In Florida our water is flat and boring, this was so much better.

Our family of 7 went tubing with Cool River on May 29th as walk up's. We were given wristbands and directed to check in and get on the bus. Water shoes and river stick are a must. Bus trip for our 1 hour trip was short. There is also a 2 hour trip option. Drop in was easy and the river was relaxing. Several areas of shallow water get you hung up in the rocks so pay attention. Gets a bit dicey around the retail area and bridge with some bigger rocks locking us in place. In some cases you might need to get out of your tube to get unstuck. Overall a great family adventure! We will be back:) Recommend.

I visited Cool River Tubing on a Sunday early afternoon in late July. It was unbelievably packed. It seems this is one of the towns main attractions & the crowds are too big for the operation. Granted, everything for the most part runs smoothly, but the amount of people everywhere really slows the flow down. Once the free parking is full, you have to walk about a mile to pay $10 to park. No shuttles provided. I thought purchasing a ticket in advance would help the wait time, but I don't believe it made a difference. I 100% would recommend purchasing a push stick for $5. The river is extremely crowded and low at this time. You will definitely get stuck and run into people on your way down. I wish there was timed entry to help with this. I enjoyed the floating down the river & would recommend the two hour trip to get an worth while experience. I would recommend visiting on a weekday during a slow period.

Get the stick!! My friend and I had so much fun when we went tubing! It was so beautiful! We got the tubes with the bottoms and headrests. Thank goodness because they did warn us it was shallow, but we did not realize how shallow it actually was. We hit a lot of rocks and got stuck a lot because of it. Which is why you should get the stick! We went on a Thursday morning in mid August and it was not very busy at all. There were maybe 10 people on the bus ride to the beginning of the river that started with us. They did not end with us though lol! It was about a two hour tubing experience.

So so fun! Very professional and organized. Would HIGHLY recommended this tubing company! We would've done it twice if the water was higher.

For our group of 4 adults and 2 kids, we opted for the Scaly Mountain Screamer and the tubing. What a great time - I've seen footage of mountain coaster rides from Europe, but never had encountered it in the US. You can ride tandem on them which is convenient if you have kids and the speed is all up to you as you control it with a hand brake. Both of the kids in our group ended up doing it multiple times and each circuit gives you some great views of the forest and beautiful wilderness as you speed on by. One of the coolest aspects of the Scaly Mountain Screamer is that they not only clock your speed - each car has a go pro where you can buy the video, which everyone did. Once we had our fill of the screamer, we went to the tubing which was a surprisingly good time. The tubing track is lubricated with misters all the way down, so you get some great speed and keep cool at the same time and apparently they cover the hill in snow during the winter for some snow tubing. I would say that a stop at the Highlands Outpost is a must do for anyone, big or small. While definitely family centric, after riding on the Scaly Mountain Screamer and doing the Extreme tubing, I think its safe to say people of all ages will have fun here, especially given that you can trout fish as well. The group in front of us left with a whole mess of trout to cook up. We will be back here again to have more fun tubing and trying to beat our speed scores on the screamer and you should too.

The place appeared well-organized and inviting, so we waited for about ten minutes. Eventually, an employee arrived in a van, seemingly returning from a pick-up run. He asked how he could assist us, and I mentioned that we were interested in the 2-hour paddle--their most popular option--referencing the sign that clearly stated it was available anytime before 3 PM. We had arrived just after 2 PM. However, he informed us that they were closed and no longer offering that paddle for the day. I pointed out that both the sign and the website indicated that the last drop-in time was 3 PM. He acknowledged this but explained that since it was towards the end of the season and business was slow, they had decided to close early to avoid losing money. It would be helpful if the website and signage were updated to reflect these changes, or at the very least, if the information was honored. We had planned this activity for our afternoon during our short stay in North Georgia, and it was disappointing to find it unavailable despite the posted information.

Parking was easy and not too long of a walk to the check-in. There is one restaurant and you can see my separate review for that. We did tubing the first day and skied the second day. My pro tip is to make a group reservation, which requires a minimum of 10 people. Otherwise, it is first come first served and they sold out both days we were there by the time we arrived at 9:30am. Having a group reservation also lets you skip the line to pick up your equipment as they have it all set out for you in a room that is shared with other groups where you can change and keep your stuff. The tubing was awesome! There were 5 lanes, with varying speeds and they let us tie up to 4 people together and go down some of the slower lanes. There was very little waiting and the tubes were fast! The magic carpet ride up was relaxing. Skiing on the other hand, was not as great. There is only one lift and one run. At least you don't have to worry about merging. It is all man-made snow and the lifts are slow. They were letting people go solo and with only 2 people to a 4 person chair with a huge line. The rental equipment was dated, but at least it was not expensive. This would be fine for any beginners.

Disclaimer: This 4 star review is for a very specific use case and your mileage may vary. I've…read morefound this to be an excellent place to bring new people who have never skied and kids their first times learning. If you are an experienced (even intermediate) this could easily be a 1 star experience. Highlights: It is a quick drive from Atlanta (~2.5hrs) it is pretty cheap (very helpful for new people or kids who might not get a full day or enjoy the more expensive slopes elsewhere). We needed up paying about 250-275 for lift tickets and equipment for 2 adults and 1 kid (we had an amenity pass). Lodging in the area wasn't terribly expensive. Slopes: The area is small, there is one bunny hill with a treadmill style lift, then one ski hill with a ski lift. The ski hill might be a blue (maybe a little easier). It is narrow with trees on both sides and with a left turn going into a steeper down hill. Check in: My advice is go early on Friday (we checked in at 1) and the line was short and getting equipment was easy. We got a multi day pass so we could keep the equipment and didn't need to check in Saturday. The set up they had seems like they were prepped for long lines which with the amount of staff and system they had could eat most of the day waiting. Bunny slopes: nice wide casual slop easy for beginners. The treadmill lift was nice but slow. Main slope: with lots of new people it can get crowded and depending on the weather could be icy. The line for the lift can get long and would not be surprised if you ended up waiting in line or on the lift 3x longer than you skied. Advice: check the webcam to see how long the lines are! We went early then left for lunch and nap when it got busy. Slope side tavern: surprisingly nice stop to get food and drinks. Dose of hot chocolate is helpful for the little ones during a break. Tubing: There is a tubing option onsite, get tickets in advance it may sell out early.
