My family of 7 did the Middle Ocoee River on Memorial Day. We booked the night before realizing that Memorial Day marked the change to the Summer season schedule. Float trips on Monday but not again until Thursday. As we arrived we were greeted by their friendly staff to get checked in. We bought water shoes, some cool merch and waited for our departure to the river. Guides gave us an entertaining safety run down and we got gear( floatation device, helmet, paddle) last minute bathroom breaks, water, etc. Bus trip was thrilling as our Florida family is not used to all the up, down and around on the roads you get driving in the mountains on a bus. Beautiful views on the way to the drop in. Mayo was our guide and we were all in the same raft. Trip was epic! Our sons sat in the front of the raft and had the best time as did all of us. Mayo was a great lead on this trip and made the adventure even more memorable. Giving clear direction and some comic relief along the way Mayo made us feel comfortable and confident making our way down these class 4 rapids. Pull out was a breeze and bus ride back was relaxing after such an adventure. Photos were beautiful and purchased in the office with link sent via email with the photos. Let's start here. We had the absolute best time on this trip! Our guide, Brett, was absolutely first rate! Knowledgeable of the area, the River, and all of the "spots" throughout our rapids guide/trip! Also, he knows the area and history which is great! Make sure you ask him about the bathtub! You want to see this! We took our two HS grads up to GA and stayed at a friends cabin high up in the woods. The two kids had an absolute blast and we would all do this again no questions asked. We hit many class 4 rapids and we opted for the full day trip which was totally worth it. Check in at 8:30am and safety briefing at 9am. Get your gear and get on the bus for a short 15-20 min trip up to the top for the full day experience. Yes! Totally worth it! Lunch is provided on the full day and it was surprisingly good! You are out in the woods, folks. Don't expect gourmet meals here. Different breads (multigrain thick bread was amazing), turkey and ham and Three types of salads, two sides (pick one), toppings, dessert, and drinks. It was well worth the price which was one price for the day. You finish around 1:45-2pm for the full day which leaves time to explore the lovely town and table pics at the border of Tennessee and Georgia! Fantastic town and not run down. Go enjoy! Our two youngest couldn't go last time because they were two young so they've been looking forward to this for 4 years and they were not disappointed. My husband had a good time on this trip, but he can leave his own review. For me, we asked in advance on the phone if the rafting was safe for pregnant women, and we were told it would be fine, so we drove 2 hours to come. Once I was there and heard the instructions I became concerned for my safety because it sounded intense, so I asked the general manager giving the presentation and he would not permit me to go on the water. I appreciate knowing the risk, however the concern was not for me, or my pregnancy, he expressed that the concern was purely about getting busted by his insurance company and that he was liable. I went inside to get a refund, I expressed my frustration to all 3 ladies behind the desk that they gave us false information and that I would have to sit out in the heat for 3 hours and miss the trail. There was never a single apology to me, no ownership of their failure to communicate, and nothing to make it right other than the refund. Let's just say, 4 hours of driving and three hours of sitting in the heat pregnant was really not what I planned for. read more

We actually spent two days with Rolling Thunder. We were asked if we could reschedule our initial raft appointment to the next day, so we pivoted and tubed the Toccoa the first day, then followed up the next morning with a whitewater trip on the lower Ocoee. In both cases, the Rolling Thunder folks were consistently helpful and efficient, and we found their prices very reasonable. We had a blast both days. We were amazed at the relative lack of crowds on our tubing trip, compared with previous experiences. There were points (especially on the first half of our trip -- we did the longer one) where we could look up and down the river and see no one else. It was fantastic, and RT's longer trip was perfect on a day where the river was moving well. Good tubes, and they supplied straps if we wanted to tie up together. Our whitewater trip was even better. We admittedly went in knowing we'd have some fun, but not particularly jazzed about. We had all done whitewater trips before. However, we all came out wishing we had time to do the longer trip (and resolved to return if possible). Again, Rolling Thunder was great in every way, and we loved our guide, Jeremy. He was clearly experienced on the river, and we felt totally confident (well, you're never TOTALLY confident -- that's where the fun is, right?) navigating the rapids with him. We'll definitely request Jeremy if we succeed in making it back. Also, this stretch of the Ocoee was our favorite section of whitewater we've ever done. Nothing horrifying, but the rapids come back-to-back-to-back -- no boring stretches. We definitely recommend it, and Rolling Thunder. If possible, we'll be back... read more

We had a blast going down the Nantahala! White water rafting was a spur of the moment decision while on a vacay in Blue Ridge. My husband saw a sign for Rolling Thunder River Company and the minimum age limit was our son's age (7), so it worked perfectly! Booked online and then we drove a couple of days later from Blue Ridge, about 1 1/2 hour away. Beautiful scenic ride, I mean...BEAUTIFUL! We did the 9:30 AM time, after it had rained through the night, and there was still fog on the mountains/river. It was exceptional. The water was super cold, but with the steamy air and fog, it was perfect conditions. JP and Nick were our guides for the two rafts. They were informative and fun; told us about the falls and rapids and also helped us get to the end safely! We were able to buy pictures of us that had been taken on the class 3 rapid. This outing was so rewarding. The day was beautiful, the water was crisp and cool. I must admit I was excited for the outing but somewhat apprehensive. Then comes our guide to introduce himself. He assured us we would have a great, he reviewed the safety and precautions and informed me "I respect the water Iike I respect my mother." Mayo was so entertaining, skilled, funny, professional and direct. We loved it! He periodically checked in with us about the time we were having and was a great leader and guide. He knows so many tricks in the water which made our experience even better. I would highly recommend Mayo for sure. Lastly, if you plan to use him as a guide try to remember to bring cash! Great family fun. We chose this company based on reviews, and the river was an easy beginner river. Glad we did. The guides were all great, educational and entertaining. Most of the river is an easy pace. There are about three 'bigger' drops. One at the beginning, and two at the end. These are also easy to manage though, especially with a guide. If you liked the beginning river, they offer to take you to the more experienced one right after, sometimes at a discount. Some tips: you will get very wet, bring a change of clothes (including socks, underwear and shoes) and dress accordingly. The bus ride down is roller coaster like, on a school bus. This is the most intense part of the kids get worried. There are a lot of signs saying to tip your guide if you had a good time, so bring some cash. The also offer photos of the final 'waterfall'. They about 15 of them in this timeframe. read more

We had SUCH a good time on the Middle Ocoee this past weekend! We were originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon but the River was too high (and the weather was TERRIBLE). We received a call that morning and they graciously offered to move our reservation to the next day or refund us our trip. We opted to reschedule in hopes the water would go down- and it did! The weather ended up perfect too. Our guide was Steven and he was awesome! Our group was mixed with people that had tasted before and others who hadn't and it was so easy to listen to the guide! Our group of 11 rafted the middle section of the river a few days ago and had an amazing time. Due to the group size, we took two rafts. Trevor was the guide in our raft, and he was awesome the whole time. He said that the river was the highest and fastest it had been in about 10 years, and all of the guides were excited about it. The enthusiasm was contagious. We ended up pulling three people out of the water whose raft flipped. Some of the other rafts flipped, as well, and the people who fell out were pulled in by other rafts. We had all been told what to do if this happened before going out on the water, so we knew how to help. Luckily, no one on our raft fell out. All of the rafts stay reasonably close to each other for safety reasons. If the group gets spread too thin, the rest of the rafts stop and wait. These are the only real down times, apart from the free swim area, where the current is slow and you're allowed to leave the raft. The entire ride was exhilarating, and I'll definitely be doing it again. Next time, however, I'll ride the upper and middle sections. read more

Whoever the lady was working the day we went needs to go to a refresher course in customer service. Working in public service, one thing I cannot stand is rude/bad customer service. I understand when you are working some people can be aggravating and down right evil to deal with, but when you are getting paid and the customers are patient and kind I find it unforgiving to not do better. When I'm the customer I expect the absolute BEST costumer service- THATS YOUR JOB when you are the one getting paid. Anyway, we had a good time- kayaking down the 3 mile trail. Water was low and the family with us had issues with their tubes getting caught on the rocks. There was no sanitation from what I seen on any equipment and masks we're not enforced on the bus ride if these are the things you are looking for you may not want to stop at this one. There are several companies doing the same thing in a small area. Oh and all the water/river activities are closed on Tuesday and Wednesdays in this area, definitely wished we had known that before booking our cabin but made the best of it and had an overall good time. read more

This was my first time white water rafting, and I did the whole river with Les as our guide. Being a newbie and completely unsure, it was great to have such an experienced guide. We never flipped or got stuck, and surfed every wave that was available. I highly recommend this company. If you're short on time, do the middle river, that was much more action and a ton of fun! Les is the most!! What an amazing trip down the Middle Ocoee with our guide Les. He is amazingly adept at maneuvering the raft, placing you in fun splash holes and not getting stuck on rocks or flipping the boat. The middle Ocoee trip is about 2.5 hours on the river which was perfect for all of us which included two teenagers and two 50 year olds Tips: go on the early 9/9:15 trips so that the river is less crowded and you can play in the fun areas. Bring a towel and dry clothes for when you return. Make sure you have good water shoes. Don't take anything of value on the river. They will take pictures that you can purchase which were fantastic. We wore rash guard swim shirts and cotton tshirts and both of us were fine. It wasn't nearly as cold as we thought it would be. Highly recommend this company and Les as a guide! read more
