Where do I even start? My 10 year old just finished a five week intensive stand up comedy and improv training. My son never did stand up comedy before but he did outstanding performance at the show after the last class, and it was at the Legendary Ice House. This is all because he was trained by outstanding coaches, Corey and Matt! They train comics from 8-88 of ages and they know how to work with any age and skills. Three things: 1. Cool Beans Comedy U = THE BEST!! I am living, breathing proof that it is actually possible to take a post-pubescent human and in six short weeks, transform them from a mic-fumbling nervous Nelly into a stage-ready performer with a "tight five" as "they" say in "the biz." I now have a set, I have photo and video proof of this set, and I have a starting point for more writing. (Which will hopefully be done at future Cool Beans U classes.) 2. Class structure is unparalleled. There's no BS, there's no breaks, there's no take ten...there's just two and a half hours of solid work every single week. This is how all learning should be structured: you actually spend the time DOING THE WORK. You do your set twice a week, get two sets of notes, and hear-and-cheer your classmates doing the same. It's constant, unrelenting learning and growth. 3. It's pretty obvious that "Cool" refers to Matthew and "Beans" refers to Corey. But whatever you call them, they're incredible teachers and producers and comics: patient and thoughtful who impeccably attuned feedback, have endless support for your work, and bring out the best in you every single class. The Cool Beans Comedy show is as good as it gets in seeing new and seasoned comics together in one show! Always great energy in the room, Matthew Moore and Corey Craig are great hosts and keep the energy up and the laughs rolling. I have been a part of the Cool Beans comedy stand up class for three sessions now, and I can't rave enough about it. If you have been thinking about maybe possibly doing stand up but aren't sure and are nervous and blah blah blah TAKE THIS CLASS. Take it! Matthew and Corey are amazing teachers and not only do their notes take your set to the next level, they help you find your comedy voice. They are invested and care about comedy, and they create a fun, supportive and challenging place to either try stand up for the first time, or tighten up a set you might have been working on for a while. There are two parts to Cool Beans Comedy, so I'll talk about both separately. 1. 6-Week Comedy Class - I took this class for the first time in January 2017 and was really hesitant, I doubted that I'd be funny enough to get up on stage and make people laugh (which is one of the hardest things to do), but I was wrong. Matt Moore is an excellent instructor! Countless times I've seen him turn non-funny individuals into comics, no joke! He knows how to take real life situations and find the humor in them. In that short amount of time, I learned so much about comedy and can now make friends laugh because of what I learned. Corey Craig, who is also an instructor and producer gives great insight into the world of comedy and what opportunities there are if this is something you would like to pursue. You won't find better teachers with a wealth of knowledge of comedy anywhere else. If you are even thinking of trying this out, Cool Beans Comedy is the way to go. 2. Cool Beans Comedy Shows - Once a month on Sunday's, Cool Beans Comedy performs to a sold-out crowd at The Ice House. I've seen too many headlining comics to count, it's the best show in town in my opinion, and best of all, IT'S FREE!!! I would easily pay $30 to attend this show (plus the two drink minimum) because of how good it is. On top of that, all of the comics are super approachable. You can take photos with them after the show. With Corey producing and Matt hosting, you'll be sure to have a great time. I then learned about their comedy class and joined their class twice. . . and I love it! Corey and Matthew are great teachers and I have learned so much.
