Worth the money! And I'm a cheap Asian woman! Doing stand up was always on my bucket list, so this was a perfect chance to try it out. Corey and Andrew are legit coaches that have a lot of experience and can coach you to present your best sketch. I also have a lot of new friends from the class, my classmates. These courses are available for adults and children. Classes take place inside the historic Ice House. Their air conditioning is the best of all the comedy clubs I've attended. It had been on my heart for months to give stand up comedy a try, and I've had friends telling me for yeaaars to get up there and go for it. I was so nervous, but I told myself that 27 was the year that I was going to make some real change, so what better time to do this then now?! After performing last Sunday, I can confidently say that taking this class was one of the best decisions I've ever made. From Day 1, I felt so welcomed, encouraged, and supported by my fellow classmates and teachers. Each week, Corey, Andrew, and Nicole provided us with such clear feedback that helped my set get better and better with each rewrite. Corey Martin Craig is the main coach and producer of the Cool Beans comedy show at the world-famous Ice House in Pasadena. He runs a 6 week class for kids and adults where he assists the performers in writing and performing a set for the main comedy show at the end of the 6th week. My 10 year old does the kids show. He has gone through the program twice, has enrolled for the third, and wants to continue! The shows are high quality, filmed with multiple cameras, with a full line up of entertainment. My son performs at other venues, but this is the most guided, comprehensive class/show he is part of. I got into comedy not by choice, but I guess it was fate... You see I lost my fantasy football league and my punishment was to do a stand up comedy routine, ironically I was also the one who nominated this idea to be the punishment. Being the type to never back down from a challenge, I figured the best way to prepare would be to take a class. I remember going to a few Cool Beans shows in the past so when I saw they offered classes I signed up. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made. The Cool Beans Kids class is the BEST experience and I couldn't recommend it more! I had my three kids (ages 13, 10, and 10) give the class a try, even though we had to miss a couple of sessions. Because of that, I gradually became more and more worried that the kids would have a difficult time on stage, but they really didn't. In fact they really shined. The reason was that Corey made them feel so comfortable - through the training, but also through his supportive, enthusiastic, and encouraging manner. And the material the kids had for their sets was fantastic, making it easy for them to feel funny, confident, and willing to share themselves with the audience. They had a really fun time in the classes, as well as performing on stage, and they learned a lot. I really feel that what is happening at Cool Beans Comedy is special and important, and one of the hidden treasures of Pasadena. I graduated from the Cool Beans Comedy intensive on October 13th. The program's culmination was a showcase at the world famous Ice House in Pasadena. The program is a six week course where professional comedians help you craft an audience-friendly stand up routine. I learned about joke writing, how to handle a microphone/mic stand, and the more technical aspects of comedy. Many of the students were taking the class for a second or third time. Not only will you learn about comedy, but you will have encouraging teachers and a chance to perform your polished routine in front of a real audience. We enrolled our 11 year old Grandson in Cool Beans Comedy classes as a Christmas gift. He started in January of 2025 and ended with his first Comedy sketch on March 2, 2025. Our grandson, Alejandro, wowed the crowd!!!! He was a hit. But then again, everyone that got on stage that night was a hit, due to the constant attention of Corey. Corey gentally coached each one up to the podium and helped them if they forgot a line. He got the entire audience involved and genuinely like his comedians. When I was first looking up Cool Beans, one value they promised was "community in comedy." I was skeptical because it felt like such an overzealous promise. I first came across the Cool Beans Kids Comedy class from an Eventbrite listing. At the time my kid who is usually funny and out going was getting self conscious and embarrassed at school. It really started to affect him and his self confidence. I thought I'd give this comedy class a try and see if he liked it. Well it exceeded my expectations and then some. My kid loved it so much we just finished his second season. Corey is an awesome coach, he allows each kid to be themselves and makes sure they feel comfortable with the material. He never forces them to include something in their routine if they don't feel it. He just helps to provide guidance for structure and delivery. Watching kids from 7 to 17 grow and stand up there comfortable during the showcase has been amazing. He coaches with such heart and humor and isn't afraid to be vulnerable with them and share his own childhood experience. He instills that it is okay to own who you are and bring a laugh.
