Rehearsal before the showcase!

Cool Beans was a great experience for my kids! Corey is incredibly caring, welcoming, and positive. The showcase was very professional and alot of fun for everyone. My kids will absolutely be back!

We just had our showcase last night. And wow, what a journey and experience! I started the class wanting to learn about comedy, how to write a joke, and practice the craft. Corey and Andrew's guidance teaches you the craft, while supporting your point of view of what you want to share, and help you craft your set. You get so much valuable time on stage to practice and get feedback as well. You also get to work in both rooms of The Ice House so you get a feel of different stages. It really is a positive and supporting energy throughout. They've helped me see it's possible to stand up comedy, and I'm looking forward to continuing the journey with it now, thanks to Cool Beans! If you've ever thought about trying comedy, even if you feel a bit nervous, just go for it and go through it. Getting to the other side with the support and the community makes the journey worth it.

This was one of the scariest and most rewarding things I've done. The team at cool beans are experts at helping you use your own personal story and style to create an amazing performance. Being able to take the class and practice on the stage at The Ice House is also an amazing feature. I highly recommend it to anyone who is remotely interested. They are the most competent teachers with a welcoming and intuitive style. They care deeply about everyone's experience and success. I enjoyed it so much that I took it a second time. The bonus of being able to have a professionally produced video of your set after is wonderful.

It had been on my heart for months to give stand up comedy a try, and I've had friends telling me for yeaaars to get up there and go for it. I was so nervous, but I told myself that 27 was the year that I was going to make some real change, so what better time to do this then now?! After performing last Sunday, I can confidently say that taking this class was one of the best decisions I've ever made. From Day 1, I felt so welcomed, encouraged, and supported by my fellow classmates and teachers. Each week, Corey, Andrew, and Nicole provided us with such clear feedback that helped my set get better and better with each rewrite. They never once were negative in their notes (for anyone, not just me!) and always made sure their feedback was delivered in such a positive, encouraging tone. Above all, they truly believe in each and every student, and it's evident by the amount of time, effort, and positivity they put into each session (and in the office hours, too!) By the end of the class, I could easily see how my public speaking, stage presence, and overall confidence had increased, and I gained such a greater understanding of comedic timing, brevity, and pacing. I also think all that I've learned will serve me well in my day-to-day work as I present to clients all the time! I'm so thankful I took a chance on myself and I am counting down the days until I can get back on that stage again. I've always wanted to do stand up comedy and Cool Beans helped me achieve that goal! Not only did I learn theory on comedy and joke writing strategies, I found my confidence and voice again. Corey, Audrey, and Andrew are amazing coaches who provide efficient feedback, guidance, and encouragement. They helped me transform my vulnerabilities into comedy. For 5 weeks we learn theory and workshop our material. On the 6th week, we showcase the set we've been working on at the legendary Ice House. It was such a thrill and out of my body experience to be up there. Because of Cool Beans, I can see myself continuing on in comedy. Thank you, Cool Beans!!!!

Wicked Lit! Went…read morelast year for the first time and then twice this year to see both Production A (The Unnameable, the Chimes, and Cask of Amontillado) and Production B **new** (Casting the Runes, A Ghost Story, and The Body Snatcher). I brought a bunch of people with me to see Production A this year. It was amazing as always... Note to newcomers - if you are meeting people at the event, make sure that all members of your group receive the same color sticker on their program. You want to stay together in the same group. Also note that they have coffee, hot apple juice (which they insist on calling cider), and a few candy bars. $2 each or 2 items for $3. Bring cash, a jacket as you will be outside for a time, and comfortable shoes for walking and standing for short periods. The plays are immersive as you walk following the characters and story progression through the creepy and eeriliy lit long hallways of the mausoleum... and through the cemetery across the street. Most of the acting is great. Last night was unusual because they had BOTH productions going on at the same time. I was concerned that we would be running into each other in the corridors and we would lose the integrity of the individual plays with competing noise in the background. They actually handled it really well and there was only about 5 minutes when I was distracted by noise from another play. Production B was very good for the most part. I will not forget the images from Casting the Runes and The Body Snatcher. The Ghost Story however, started out GREAT but then the second half was kind of ridiculous. What annoyed me most was the fact that because it wasn't as long as the other plays and they all had to end at the same time, the guide read us "The Raven" as we walked back. Now, I take my Poe seriously and want it done right or not at all. This guy read it from the folder, lost his place a few times, used a voice that I assume was supposed to be funny (and wasn't). It just wasn't done well. If they HAD to fill up that time, (and I hope they read this review) they should have the poem read at the original site and read seriously by someone who can do it properly... by candlelight... with some thunder, rain, and lightning in the background. I was not only disappointed, but mad that it had been done so poorly. I could have read it better (and not from a folder). All in all, it's still a Halloween favorite and the location is fantastic and used well.

I should be at the Betsy Leuke Creative Arts Center (5-stars), Photography Reception instead of yelping in front the theater. Visited 12/9/2016…read more Purchased Fill a Seat LA during the summer and FINALLY used it for the first time last night. VERY difficult to find this place!! I used my WAZE and it took us to the Recreation Center! We decided to drive around the block, but my WAZE still took us here! I decided to park and we walked towards the recreation center and what do we see?!?! A small sign with an arrow pointing towards the back of the Recreation Center. We followed the path and found another sign and there it was.... The Grove Theater!! Looked REALLY small from the outside. When we entered the theater, you right away are in the lobby/intermission area. They sold cookies and drinks only. Small seating area, but nicely done and looks cozy. The theater looks new. The seats were comfortable. The theater states it holds 99 seats which I found hard to believe. By the time the play started (we saw A Christmas Carol), the theater was about 1/4 full. The play itself was well done with only three actors. It's amazing what they did with their "costume changes" utilizing their red or green scarf. The male actor changed his character just by messing up his hair and changing his voice and mannerisms! The play was well done and I would highly recommend it. No intermission. Only 90 minutes. Never a dull moment. Plenty of free street parking. They have their own parking lot, but I don't have a clue as to how to get to it!! We would definitely return.
