It was odd seeing the big split of reviews - 1 or 5...... I've been using this after trying a variety of ones both at home and as a group at work. Cook Unity value is good, maybe great. For 30 lunches at work, they are about $15/each. For 6 dinners at home, same price. As with anything else, there are a few, but very few, selections that I would not repeat ($15 for a chowder seams seems excessive), but the rest of them tend to be very yummy and colorful (one other service had all brownish stuff - yuck). I think that the difference is that they tend to package the sauce (pesto in particular) in a separate container. That keeps everything from getting soggy. All the meals come ready to eat after microwaving 2-4 minutes. I usually freeze 4 of my 6 to eat later - defrosting does not degrade the meal. I'm considering raising the number of weekly meals. Seems like the problems others had were mainly with the logistics vs the food (although some people were not fans - I get it.....few places get consistently high marks only based on the food). Check it out. read more

If you want to eat healthy meaning low salt, low sodium, and fish, chicken, or vegetarian meals this is not a good meal delivery service. I ordered from them for several months and found that most meals were either high calorie and/or high sodium. When I finally found some that were at least not too high in calories (under 800) and not too high in sodium (under 900 mg) the fish or chicken was over-cooked and heating it the very minimum amount yielded tough or over-cooked protein. The vegetarian meals were almost all high in calories and sodium. I interacted with customer service about the high sodium and the response was that they were working on it with their chefs. The only change they made in the months that followed was that they took the sodium content off the packaging so you had to dig deeper to find out what it was. I also asked them why so many of the chicken meals were dark meat and/or on the bone. No answer about that. Yes it's convenient and if you like high calorie, high salt, spicy, beef, pork, and dark meat chicken give it a try. read more

OMG! The best food ever. Love Cookunity. Has increased my diet of fish and salad and helped me drop the pounds. Love the dressings and sauces which typically are difficult for me. We chose Cookunity initially because the dishes do not come in plastic, packing is minimal and returned each week. Also, they use plant-based meats, Beyond and Impossible so I can enjoy so many dishes. Life changer for me. Thank you! read more

Absolutely GARBAGE!!! Sent a bunch of cheap pasta meals that I didn't choose. Almost every meal is some kind of curry (WTF?) and absolutely nasty. Out of 28 meals, maybe 5 were actually good. Most of my meals were thrown away, complete waste of money! read more

After all the rave reviews we decided to give them a try. First of all I would like to mention that these are fresh meals, not frozen, yet our meals arrived with two days left on the sell by date? Okay... whatever we know the food is probably okay so let's try it. Any proteins, beef, pork, chicken, all very dry and completely unseasoned, had to salt everything just to get some taste out of it. The vegetables needed to be par boiled because they were completely hard and crunchy when not supposed to be. Same with the potatoes, very hard and strange to be honest. Had pulled pork in BBQ sauce with a bun, the BBQ sauce tasted like chemicals. Overall the portions were small and given the state of the food, was not filling or enjoyable. We will be approaching the company for a refund, hopefully they are at least accommodating about that. read more

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS PLACE They did not deliver the food to my apartment; left it outside in the lobby. Food was stale for 2 days and they refuse to give me a refund. They lied and said the driver was denied access to go to my apartment on the 5th floor which was a lie. I order ubereats everytime and there is no issue of being denied access to the elevator to come up and deliver food. Horrible horrible company. The back and forth text messages go no where; there is no customer support. If YOU ORDER you will NOT get your money back and they will make it hard for you to cancel. they glitched my girlfriend's account so she couldnt cancel. PLEASE BE CAREFUL putting your credit card on this companys website read more

CS Agent Mafer was EXCEPTIONAL I worked with an agent Mafer, after encountering an issue with my upcoming order. Mafer went out of his way to assist me after I missed the closing window to select my meals. He was empathetic to my situation and compassionate regarding my food sensitivities. He was so kind in his communications with me. I felt I was a valued customer and honored throughout my interactions with him. In addition the quality and taste of their meals is consistently great. CookUnity delivers the meals on time each week and there are so many food options to choose from you will need get bored. I highly recommend this food service. read more

I'm a Senior Citizen, age 85. I'm trying to cancel my deliveries and they don't acknowledge our emails asking them for confirmation that they understand we're done with them. No good.....and they say "Cancel anytime"!! read more

I signed up for Cook Unity because they said they deliver to my area. My first week, they couldn't ship due to the holidays. In my second week, meals were packed and shipped from LA. After a delay, they arrived UPS on Jan 9; meals expire on Jan 12. Ice packs were melted, and my first meal caused me a stint in the bathroom for most of the night. Of course, I threw everything away to the tune of $120. I emailed customer service and crickets. In my third week, they packed and shipped UPS on 1/13 from LA. My order arrived 1/15 in Elgin, AZ. My meals expired on 1/19. Really? Four days? At least the ice packs were still partially frozen. The cooking instructions are wrong, both from the chef and the "fast" instructions. These meals looked so good to me online. I'm going back to frozen meals, and I'm agitated. I spent over $200 (300 if you count the next order they wouldn't let me cancel) for the five meals I could eat. read more

Veho didn't deliver and instead of refunding your card they give you credit. Don't want the credit, want my money back because I cancelled the subscription. I'll file a complaint with BBB if they don't refund me. read more

First off the food was terrible. It looked awful and was awful. We tried 4 meals before deciding to cancel our subscription. The dogs were pleased because they got to eat most of it and they aren't as discerning as we are. I'd already ordered a second week because they really pressure you to do that. So I tried to cancel my order. Turns out they don't take cancellations after an order is placed, despite the fact there are 5 days before my ship date. I called my credit card company and they said the charge was just made today after I tried to cancel. Also their packing was bad. Liquid leaked throughout the box but not into the sealed meals themselves. A really bad company. I would not recommend anyone having to go through what I have to try to cancel an order. I'm exhausted. read more

I've used them for a while now and overall I am happy with the service. I used Freshly previously, while the price with Freshly is a lot cheaper, the food quality is just so bad that I find it inedible. Cookunity has a lot of dishes with fish which I like, their portion is reasonable and the quality of the food is decent. Obviously sometimes depends on the dish and cook you pick but overall they are good. read more

Good food, poor business. The people who do delivery do not take the old bags back. They just leave them. The app doesn't work well. I just got an email saying, "Thank you for your order," even though I canceled this service months ago. read more

My 16 meals were delivered and I was there. The box was very small. I expected it to be larger for ice. Not enough ice was in the box for the amount of meals. I opened box up immediately. All the meals were warm. I measured the top four and each were above 59'F. How long was that for? The ice packet was midway between meals and one on the bottom. As science tells us cold air falls so pack your ice on top to keep food below the ice chilled. Then I tested all meals. All 16 meals were above 54'F. Unacceptable. They should have been at 42'F - 38'F. Cookunity should do a test run as to food safety temps once they leave facility to a test home arrival. There they should measure food temps. I got diarrhea three time after eating three different meals. I tossed 10 meals out because or food safety issues. I kid you not, 3x intestinal sickness. There is no sodium info... most meals were salty. Some very salty. Customer Service ignored my situation. I was a State and Federal kitchen inspector so I knew CU needed to be informed of these problems and possibly recall meals. I tried every day for 10 days to get someone to talk to me. When I finally talked to their customer after see they denied doing anything wrong. In fact they said I mishandled the meals once they arrived at my place!!! I have a masters's degree in this area of public health so I know a bit about food safety. A noodle meal smelled like ammonia when opened and when heated it filled my home with ammonia. This meal should have been recalled but CU denied any wrong doing and question my food handling. This is not my first home delivery meal service. I had frozen meals delivered in the summer and they were still frozen even after 1.5 arrival time at my place. This is the first time were meals arrived at unsafe temperatures. Just how long were the Cookunity meals above 42'F? Don't even put yourself in danger eating Cookunity meals. read more

When I found a hard object in my food- luckily not swallowing or breaking a tooth- one of the responses was that "I can check my food when it comes". I am not their Quality Assurance Specialist! Their lack of concern that possibly other foods had foreign objects I found appalling. I am a nurse and aware of what harmful objects can do to internal organs. I cancelled my subscription. Their best response was to offer me a discount for a limited time if I re subscribed. This is not acceptable safety for consumers. I definitely would not use this service at this time. Anne w. We have loved every order we've tried. The food is interesting and well-prepared. What's more, we live at the coast, so if they can deliver to us and have the food be appropriately chilled, they should be able to deliver anywhere. For the price, this is the best value we ever get for food. I can't even make the same food at home for less money, especially considering the cost of traveling to the store, paying for the ingredients, doing the cooking and clean-up. THANK YOU TEN THOUSAND TIMES, CookUnity!! read more

Food is ok but over priced. For a while, I had the account paused. After that, they contacted me via email to question the pause and I thought I cancelled it. After a few weeks, I got a request to order food again. I contacted Cook Unity for clarification and the CSR said it was cancelled and not to worry. (Help is only available via texts.) So, OF COURSE, the food came. I contacted Cook Unity again to find out WTF. Must have been a heavy day for Customer Service as I waited what seemed like forever for him to come online. Finally, CSR wakes up. I explain I had a previous conversation where they verified my account was cancelled and not to worry about ordering food. I requested my account be closed and a refund for the food I did not order but received. CSR stated he shows no record of a previous conversation. Very handy if you want to take no responsibility about what your CSRs say. Whatever. I don't really want to do business with the type of business that runs like that. BEWARE! read more

The food is ok, I tried salmon which was fine, hanger steak which I thought was bad and flank steak which was eh. The worst part is the customer service, there is none. I would suggest looking into a diferent option that offers better support read more

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THESE PAID REVIEWS! They don't even have a phone number to complain to. Why? Because the calls would be endless. Your complaint sent on the website doesn't go thru. It's just for show. I sent 5 complaints, and not one response. Not even a confirmation that they received it. The chat just refreshes asking you to re-submit. So if they refuse to let you contact you to keep good business...do you really think they care about what they're doing to your food? Totally awful food. And I'll eat just about anything, but dried out meats, raw veggies overdone starches terrible knife cuts leaving food inedible won't make it. Everything is just piled in sloppily. I have only been in the program for one week and have another order coming which I can't cancel and the food is horrible . Just DON'T even try this service. The emails are non stop pains in the a__. And very confusing. If you don't pick something out , in a very small window of opportunity, they just send you stuff you won't like. TV dinners from the supermarket are 98% better. read more

Just recently started receiving meals from CookUnity. So far the meals have been absolutely delicious and the meals have arrived about the same time on the same day every week. The menu choices are incredibly extensive and can satisfy most dietary restrictions. Better yet, you can return the meal delivery container and ice pack at your next delivery. The only thing I put in the trash is the film from the individual meal containers. I am thrilled I have found this meal delivery service. I honestly don't understand the one or two star reviews. We have tried other meal delivery services and this is by far the best and much less expensive than ordering from Door Dash, Grubhub or Uber Eats. read more

We love Cook Unity. It is hassle free, environmentally friendly, reasonably-priced and tasty. They have all the nutrition facts online for each meal, and you can see how other people liked the meals through their ratings. They have a wide menu selection each week so I never feel like I can't get the variety I like, and my husband loves that many of the meals are quite high in protein. On weeknights we usually pick two and split them. Cook Unity makes our lives so much easier!! The one thing I would change is to allow people to set their own default meals in case they forget to order vs automatically choosing them. But that's minor overall, definitely still 5 stars!! read more

I like their food, that's why I resubscribe. I was just surprised they automatically just charged my card and chose the meals for me. I didn't get the chance to check the meals and choose the delivery date. So I requested atleast I can change the meals since it's still 5 days from the delivery date. They didn't allow me. What's the customer service for when your resolution sucks. Imagine I resubscribe because I plan to order, but I had to cancel because of poor customer service. read more

Beware I used this service for several months, spent thousands. When it became too expensive I cancelled only to still be charged. I've been using CookUnity for 2 weeks now, and have enjoyed the service. It's easy to browse selections and order, the food arrives packaged well to keep cool, the portions are filling, and the taste is great. My first week of food from Cookunity I had to throw away 3 of the 6 meals because they went bad 3 days after receiving the delivery. Then there was an issue with my payment for my next delivery I did not resolve the issue for 1 or 2 weeks. I assumed they canceled that weeks food delivery so I decided to try them again however with lesser meals hoping then I will not have to throw away any meals. So I changed my meal plan to 4 instead of 6 meals a week and chose my meals. A payment was deducted. I have used almost all of the meal delivery companies my personal favorite is Homechef. Every single one of them will not allow a double food delivery unless it's part of the meal plan. Their software will not allow you to receive a 2 weeks of food delivered 1 day apart. That's because it's good business to keep happy customers and customers with more food then they can handle is not good business. For every 1 customer you lose you lose an additional 10 by word of mouth however by social media that number changes dramatically. It's also extremely important that they handle common user issues with their website to prevent bad reviews and loss of business. read more

I just tried this food delivery and meal service and my experience is excellent so far. I am not able to cook during the week and was looking to alternatives to the other meal delivery services which can be very expensive. The prices are very reasonable. I like the variety and the many options to choose from. We had the a couple of fish dishes - salmon and branzino, the pasta, the paella, and they all were good. My husband is very picky and hard to pleased. He loved everything. Delivery was timely as expected, food was nicely packed. I will continue to order from them. read more

In the last 8 weeks, I have gotten my delivery on time in four weeks. Two weeks elapsed where I did not get it and two weeks went by where they actually delivered spoiled food to my house. It was not edible-it was 4 days past the date but they delivered it and made me deal with the mess rather than taking this responsibility. I feel bad for this business, clearly they have some good cooks and while frequently they can not seal their meals (the plastic does not seal), I would not take the time to write the most negative review I could if they just stopped sending me spoiled food. Is that too much to ask? Stop sending me your messed up deliveries that I can not make use of? Just stop, even after I cancelled my subscription. Just stop! You should all not get on this train. Just don't. read more

I don't know how their food is, but their website operations and customer service are astonishingly bad. I purchased a gift card on their website, in response to which, I never received any kind of receipt or acknowledgement. The only way I could tell they received the order is that the charge appeared on my credit card right away. i emailed them repeatedly, requesting a receipt. They never responded to a single email. I found their "customer service" number and called it, only to be greeted by a message that abruptly announced, "We cannot take phone calls." and then gave no additional information. In the end, I did manage to contact them through their nearly-impossible-to-find chat service on their website. The representative explained that the original email probably went to Spam (it didn't). She did manage to properly resend me a receipt, but I'm amazed at how little effort they put into building trust with their brand new customers. I do not recommend. read more

The food is great, however, the delivery service is trash. The delivery drivers cannot communicate with you. Had 29 deliveries within the course of 8 months, overall pretty decent, nothing extraordinary, if I find better option, I would switch. Food doesn't always taste good, food portions were extremely inconsistent, the nutrition info for each meal is extremely misleading, always labeling more protein than the meal actually has, some meal labeled 50g of protein for an all carb meal with no meat (Mac and Cheese), some meal labeling 59g of protein for some tiny piece of shrimps. Got the wrong order once (7 out of 8 meals wrong), but got a refund for it. The most questionable thing they do is they will charge you $3-6 more for each meal that you have rated 5 stars previously, making me stop rating all the meals afterward. read more

The customer service is horrible. They are unaccommodating and unresponsive. The ordering process is rigid and inflexible; I just got a shipment of high sodium food based on an order pre-selected by Cook Unity even though I requested low sodium. And when I tried to ask customer service for help with the problem, they basically said tough luck. Buyer beware: there are any issues with your order, they will ignore you, make it impossible to achieve a resolution, and charge your credit card anyway even if you have explicitly told them it is not authorized. The food is ok but the ordering system and terrible customer service make this outfit unacceptable. I am cancelling. read more

This is my third week with CookUnity and I absolutely love the variety of food -- it's so great to have a meal for one -- great food, great ingredients, and I didn't have to go find them all myself and cook it myself. CookUnity is based out of Brooklyn, New York, but your food does not come from New York City. I think the bay area chefs are currently in the Los Angeles area but if enough of us in the SF Bay start getting food delivered then they will probably start a kitchen here, too. Deliveries have been as promised each date. Packaging is super earth friendly. Everything is reusable or recyclable / compostable. You return the bag and ice pack each week, (or the ice pack can safely just be discarded). Drivers are friendly. Customer Service (chat) always quick with good answers. Check it out. You won't regret it. read more

DO NOT order from this service unless you want to be upset and waste your money. Food is ok at best, but my major issue was how the products are so poorly packaged without any thought of the trip to your home. They use garbage plastic ramekins to transport the sauces and that open and they spill over all the food in the separately pre packaged dish. Ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger and it comes with this aioli type sauce. It was smashed down into the side of the bun that is wrapped separately and the sauce LITERALLY was covering the entire meal to where if I wanted to actually enjoy it, I would have to take it all apart and rinse off everything in the package. There are 2 arrows, 1 on either side of the box that has no instructions as to make sure it stays right side up, just this tiny little arrow. Like NO THOUGHT was put into the shipping at all. Then you go to their site and there is NO WHERE to leave a review. That should have been the 1st red flag, but the wife wanted to try it even though its EXTREMELY over priced to begin with. Anyway you would be better served taking your ass to Walmart or to go get fast food because even with how much of a joke fast food is these days, its STILL BETTER than this garbage. read more
