Highly inventive and wildly cool spot. If your lost when you are trying to find it ur probably on the corrrect path. It is basically in a loading dock area. I think the chefs are moving away from vegetarian to vegan which is admirable if it is their direction but they oddly had all of these non vegan dishes you could buy for an up charge and they were some of the best fishers. Regardless great choice for an inventive meal!

Worth the effort to find the entrance. A starred restaurant that is all vegetarian is a rare treat, and both the food and the staff are exceptional.

Favorite meal in Berlin and lived up to the hype! I didn't even catch the whole "secret passageway" element of finding this joint (not ideal on the last day and last steps of many tens of thousands of steps, taking an extra trip around the block trying to find the joint). All foot woes were quickly forgotten once we started the 5-course meal with non-alcoholic pairings. The space is awesome, service and staff right on point, knowledgeable and friendly, and everything we ate was delightful. My favorite is being wowed by beets, which aren't usually my thing. All kinds of amazing and a must for any Berlin visit!

Good vegetarian places are hard to find in Germany let alone, one with a Michelin star. This place happens to one of those. It is a bit hard to find as it is located behind the Westin hotel and you have to walk through the loading docks and enter via a door in the back of the building. Once inside it starts with a small old style bar and the restaurant is upstairs. The restaurant is exposed walls and cielings with modern lighting, modern furniture and casually dressed waiters. The menu is not big and you can choose a 4 course fixed menu or select a la carte. I had the quail egg to start which was served in a brioche with a foam. The starter was nice but too small for my liking and the egg slightly overcooked for me. It tasted quite ok. My main of eggplant bake was nice with a nice sauce but once again bit too small for my liking. The chocolate icecream with muesli and a condensed milk syrup was absolutely amazing and I loved it. The wine list is small but good enough to choose from. We tried a bottle of Austrian vegan wine and it was nice. The dessert wine from Spain was ok nothing really special. The service was great to start but it went down a bit as our waitress was too busy talking to the couple on the table next to us for quite a while ;-) Not what I would expect in a restaurant that has been awarded such high marks. All in all a good experience and I would probably come here again. It is a nice place hidden away and has a nice atmosphere. It is also a good choice for vegans and vegetarians.

I am a carnivore at heart and get grumpy if I go too long without consuming meat. When my wife approached me with the idea of having dinner at a vegetarian restaurant, I was skeptical to say the least but I must say I was blown away after dining here. The food was so good that I would return again without hesitation. The real trick to this place is finding it in the first place. You have to walk down a couple of alley ways that really don't look like you belong there in the first place. Then you come to a small sign by a locked door with an intercom to get buzzed in. But once inside, the upstairs dining room is actually quite nice even down to the detail of the electrical wiring running along the open ceiling of the room. I suspect that if the restaurant were right along the street that it would be much more difficult to score a table. I started my meal off with the toasted rustic bread with Harz cheese appetizer. The mixture of the thin bread and soup like cheese was wonderful and served at the perfect temperature. My wife and daughter went with the quail's egg in brioche that was recommended on the menu and were not disappointed. At first they were not sure if that was the egg on top but quickly found it intact in the center of the pastry. For my entree, I went with of all things corn porridge which I have never had in the past (any type of porridge) and it was out of this world delicious. It was just right for a cold Berlin night served hot with lots of yummy bits in there including what I equate to corn pops cereal that I ate as a kid. I loved it! My wife enjoyed the baked eggplant with fava while my daughter went with the parmesan dumplings with truffle. Of the three choices, my daughter was probably the least favorite but still quite good. We finished with two desserts to share: the white bubble chocolate and pistachio, and the asian pear with cocoa. The latter was really cool in that the shaved the pear paper thin in a single long continuous spiral that was quite original I thought. Service was great and very attentive. Our waitress, who spoke good English, helped us with menu recommendations and took very good care of us. While we arrived a little early for Berlin standards (630pm) to be the first table seated by the time we had finished about two hours later, the place was packed with lively folks. Even if you are not a vegetarian, you will come away happy from here. The only negative thing I can say is that the prices are a little steep but well worth it.

I'm in town visiting from Chicago and stopped here a few nights ago. The food was delicious. I'm not 100% vegetarian but my husband is so I sometimes like to try new vegetarian restaurants when I travel. Cookies Cream had a great selection of dishes and offered good wine pairings. I brought my Mom this time and we both order off the 5 course menu and chose a starter, meal and dessert all of which in her words was tasty. Our waiter was super friendly and so was all of their wait staff. This place is definitely worth a visit if you are in Berlin and want to try something good to eat. I give it a 4 and not a 5 only due to the fact that I had a hell of a time finding the door in and out!

It was so goooood! Specially the main dish which was the gnocchi with red and yellow beets! Starter also great, but I will take the porches egg next time, cus it was so delicious! Dessert also great!

5.0/5 I would go vegetarian in a HEARTBEAT if I could eat this every day! General: - Quite amazing and unique/creative savory food! Really wouldn't need meat with this type of diet. Would highly recommend their appetizers and entrees. The desserts were not as special. - Modern/chic -- as my first Michelin star restaurant, I was expecting it to be very traditionally fancy, but it was a more smart-casual / hip kind of vibe. The Menu (shared between my friend and I): - Complimentary: White french bread with spread of cottage cheese + herbs - Even this was really good! - Appetizers: 1. Leeks with black sesame: Leeks standing up like tree trunks with black sesame crisp as canopy, over swirl of 3 sauces -- leek, horseradish, and black sesame. Decorated with pinch of shaved horseradish flakes and some green powder on right and left sides. Very interesting, complex blend of flavors that unexpectedly worked well together. Leeks were perfectly soft and flavorful, kinda salty yet amazingly so because they were well balanced by the subtlety of the 3 sauce mixings and the sesame crisp. Probably my favorite dish of the night. 2. Vegetarian caviar with avocado: Vertical row of avocado slices, with green sauce swizzle underneath. Flanked by 2 clumps of vegetarian caviar (made of seaweed) and small dollops of hazelnut-taste-tinted mayonnaise topped with roasted hazelnut. Subtlety of hazelnut taste in mayonnaise was interesting, as was the seaweed caviar, but overall the dish felt pretty but disconnected; the blend of flavors when trying to eat the avocado with the caviar, sauce, and mayonnaise/hazelnut didn't work well together (maybe they weren't meant to be eaten together; but the flavors didn't feel that well balanced to me separately either). - Mains: 1. Baked aubergine with corn creme: Baked aubergine with green beans and corn crème, topped with white-beige papadum. Aubergine was in a rectangle shape and emulated steak, but tastier -- I really liked the flavors created by the crisp of the aubergine on the top and sides (perhaps breaded?), the soft white eggplant meat inside that almost had the consistency of mochi, topped with ground peanuts and made richer by a dark purple wine/BBQ-flavored sauce underneath. Really interesting play with different textures and flavor profiles in one item. Well complemented by veggie-ness of green beans (with some interesting mystery sauce underneath), slightly sweet, creamy corn crème (tasted like corn bisque), and light crunchiness of pappadum. Second favorite item. 2. Parmesan dumplings with Perigord truffle stock: Three Parmesan "dumpling" balls consisting of mixture of cheese and probably carbs, sprinkled with tiny scallions and pine nuts and topped with some crisped veggie that seemed like seaweed, but might have been spinach according to the menu. Surrounded by Périgord truffle stock soup that was honestly too salty. Tbh I didn't like the Parmesan balls all that much either -- I prefer my cheese and carbs to be separate, not already mixed together. - Desserts: Compared to the savory appetizers and entrees, the desserts were good but very normal fare and not particularly memorable -- kind of ironic considering the place is called "Cookies Cream". We got the Cookie and the Bluff strawberry pie. Aside: We weren't supposed to take pics, so these were snuck in a hurry...not sure how these other yelpies got such HQ pics?! ;P

This is a fun restaurant that will appeal to meat eaters as well as vegetarians. (As a vegetarian, it's a Must Eat spot for Berlin) You definitely need a reservation. They will give you detailed instructions on how to find it, but essentially you want to go behind the Westin, like you're headed for the loading dock, then look for the chandelier. You'll see a sign for the restaurant on the far wall - ring the buzzer next to it. You enter via a small, dark bar with about 10 seats. Stop here for a drink if you like or head upstairs to the restaurant. I didn't think the bar or drinks were anything special. There is the option to order food a la carte but it makes more (financial) sense to just do 3 or 4 courses - they will let you pick the dishes yourself or you can take their recommendations. I especially loved the Spinach & Potatoes - it was a surprising presentation with very thin sheets of fried potatoes layered with spinach. And though all the desserts were good, the paper-thin grilled pineapple with the rich coconut ice cream was the winner. When we arrived (5 minutes early), we were told we could only have the table for 2 hours since we booked using OpenTable... I'm not sure why there's a difference depending on how we booked, but 2 hours seemed plenty for 4 courses. However, the service was leisurely and at 9pm (our designated departure time) one quarter of the tables were empty and we were still waiting for dessert. They told us not to worry (which we weren't, because they were the slow ones), but this all just seemed weird. Their restrooms, though stylish, were surprisingly dirty given the caliber of the restaurant. I suspect they kept them so dark to mask the lack of cleaning. Still, food was excellent, gorgeously plated, and the ambiance was otherwise nice. As a vegetarian, it was fantastic to have a tasting menu with so many great options!

I found this whole experience rather magical. To get here, we turned down a wide alley which looks like it will lead to a warehouse. A couple of turns later, our perspective was altered by a beautiful and large brass lit chandelier hanging in the middle of the warehouse. A small sign rested near a nondescript door which read Cookies Cream. Once inside, we saw nobody and heard no voices. We walked through what looked like a dark and sexy abandoned bar and peered through velvet curtains when at last we decided to walk up a set of stairs and found the restaurant. The restaurant was a sharp contrast from the previous sights. Bright pink seating with clean white tablecloths filled the room. Jewel pink and coral colored freesias sat in the center of each table. We tasted so many courses, and every one had beautiful distinct flavors. Our whole experience was wonderful. The waiters were friendly. The food was fantastic. This was one of the best (if not the best) vegetarian restaurants I have experienced. Thinking about this makes me miss Berlin greatly.

Okay, I know vegetarian food is not exactly the first thing people recommend when they talk about German cuisine but actually Berlin has some good vegetarian places...yea really. Cookies is a great example of some of the creative dining experiences in the city. With a speak-easy vibe, this restaurant is located down a dark alleyway behind the Westin Grand hotel, you'll pass under a large chandelier and if you look very closely at what appears to be the back service door of a business, you'll see a little sign marking the entrance with a doorbell where you can be buzzed in. There is a club located downstairs and the restaurant is upstairs. The interior is a strange mix of industrial with exposed pipes in open loft warehouse type space and yet cozy with cushions and candles on the tables. Get yourself started with whatever the house cocktail is for the day and then tuck into a really great dinner. The chef is unbelievably imaginative with his flavors, ingredients, textures and presentation. He makes it really easy to forget you don't have any meat on your plate. I had a potato tart for my main - it's pretty surprising what can be accomplished with a humble potato!

Yes, the location is not the most easiest to find, but it's not impossible either. Once you get through the door, you'll have to navigate through the club and up a flight of stairs to the restaurant, where you'll be greeted with a smile by the staff. The restaurant itself is cool and modern - exposed cement, tastefully decorated. It's industrial but not overbearing. If you're lucky enough, you'll be able to see the partially open kitchen in the back where you can watch them plate the food. The best option is the three course meal for 32 EURO. For my visit, I started out with the Taleggio in Puff Pastry (delicious), the main was Parmesan dumplings with coriander carrots (recommended by the waitress and her suggestion was spot on) and ended with the Latte Macchiato Tartlet (mmmmm). Service was great - my waitress was always smiling, providing enough attention to make it just right without feeling If you do go, make an advance booking online or through the phone. I was lucky to get a booking 30 minutes before coming in, but you may not be as fortunate.

So my review is based of a couple things that may not apply to you. First, I am in town overnight by myself - so I wanted a good meal but didn't have a group to go with. I think I would have enjoyed it much more if I was with others. Second, I was in Budapest yesterday, where my husband and I ate big meals at Michelin starred or reviewed restaurants all week for about 50€ total. When I navigated to the strange location and walked in (6:30p on a Saturday), the restaurant was 75% empty. I asked for a table for one and the host said he didn't think it was possible. After a few minutes he decided I could take a table, but I had to be out in an hour. Fine - I'm a quick eater. But it wasn't the overly friendly service I would expect at a nice place (I felt like I was bothering him by coming in for dinner). I had a glass of rose (4.5€), a main (22€), and a water (3€) for 29.5€ (34€ with tip - which I wasn't sure about, because we are in Europe, but the bottom of the bill clearly stated that tip was not included and encouraged 18%). I expect pretty amazing for that. It was good - but I didn't leave sated. I think the main was significantly overpriced for what it was. Again - if I was with friends or celebrating a special occasion, maybe I'd feel differently. But truth be told - my husband would hate this place.

And most of the time, I have a hard time getting this baked beans-over-toast fix because I don't eat red meat, so a proper English breakfast would be out of the question. Not in Berlin. Not at Chipps. I came in on a rainy fall morning on the hunt for the Perfect Gentlemen: scrambled eggs, grilled tomatoes, baked beans over toast, and my choice of a vegetarian sausage. And while utterly veg-friendly and endearingly hip (the baked beans came to my table in a little jar), I couldn't help but notice that the meal, such a British staple, fell flat because of what I was comparing it to. The two pieces of vegetarian sausage were cold and the baked beans were just a tad too sweet. But still, maybe Chipps could be your Berlin. Try one of the many other options they have on their menu and I have a feeling you won't be disappointed.

It was the green umbrellas and seating outdoors that called to me. Unfortunately, like other outdoor dining areas in Europe, smoking is allowed. I just knew I would have to deal with that if I wanted to sit outside. I already saw a few people smoking. When you walk into the restaurant, the menu is posted on the wall behind the counter. It's a casual environment. As the name suggests, the food is vegetarian. Posted on the menu are stuffed baked potatoes, soups, salads, and juices. Bottled drinks in a refrigerator to the side. Tall table seating indoors. The salads are either small or large. I ordered a small quinoa salad and grabbed a bottled pomegranate tea from the refrigerator. While the gentleman rung me up at the register, someone else put my salad together. All fresh ingredients in a bowl. Glad I decided on a small because large is way too much food. But, that's truly enough, as what they prepare is all very-very good. The way this restaurant is designed is that you walk inside, decide what you want from their menu, and you order it at the counter. No cash. Only card. Then, it is prepared very quickly. I mean, they really do a great job of preparing each dish very fast. In terms of seating, for their interior they have a couple of long group tables and some two person tables along their wall. Me, that's where I like to sit. They also have a large amount of outdoor tables. Most of these table have umbrellas, so it is a great place to sit if you want to enjoy the air. The one problem I have with sitting at their outdoor tables is the same problem I have with virtually all of the restaurants in Berlin, they allow to people to smoke at these tables. One would think, at a vegetarian restaurant, they would not allow smoking. But, I have even witnessed staff members taking a break and going out there for a smoke. This is just something to keep in mind. Normally, I too prefer to sit outside, but I hate to have my eating experience diminished by someone smoking next to me. Overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Berlin. The food is very good. They staff are all very nice. And, you walk away feeling as if you have actually done something very good for your body.
