    STEAMED VEGGIE DUMPLINGS, PHO CHAY
    Deana Marie L.

Overall I was not impressed with my experience at Soy. Sure, the ambiance was nice, but the food and service were mediocre. VEGETABLE DUMPLINGS: I was so excited when I removed the lid and saw the vegetable dumplings. My excitement quickly dwindled after trying one. They dumplings were mushy and lacked in flavor. PHO CHAY - I wanted to love this pho, but I unfortunately didn't. The broth lacked in flavor. It ate oily and salty. They were stingy on the noodles. On the plus side, it did taste fresh, and the vegetables were cooked well. Also, the tofu was really good! Lastly, I get that it was busy, but I felt rushed. After I finished eating, I went to the bathroom. When I got out, my table was already cleaned and people were about to sit down. I would be open to trying Soy again if I was in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way. Cash only. To watch me eat this dinner in real-time, and to see more of the Berlin restaurants I visited, watch my youtube video below: "eat with me in Berlin." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p7Yw8BIiNw

Excellent vegan food. The service is friendly and fast. Cool spot within walking distance of most of central Berlin, great for internationals. Had the food two days in a row, wish I was in town long enough for a third visit!

Make sure to reserve a table on the weekends. Service and Location (-1) The interior is nice but most of the times overcrowded. It can get really loud so it's hard to have a conversation. Service was not very attentive, we had to actively get up and call them Food, We ordered: 1) Nr. 51 Kho To (7/10): pot comes separate with rice and broccoli, beans (only steamed). Taste wise ok, portion was also ok 2) 33 My Quang (6/10): light coconut soup with tofu. 3) Banh Canh Hap (Udon noodles)3/10 - disappointing and greasy 4) Banh Xeo (pancake) - 7/10: good portion 5) Cha La Lot (Betelbätter) - 4/10: nothing special and somehow got cold Overall soy is a good vegan place but there are better ones in berlin. The dishes are ok/good but not overwhelming. The price is also neither cheap nor expensive. Overall Average, nothing for me to crave or come back.

Food was priced right and delicious. Tuan was our waiter and did a great job making us feel welcome. Very busy and a great vibe. Vegans is downstairs.

This place is so great! My boyfriend and I went here on a Friday evening. The sun was out and it was well visited. Ordered starters: Mangosalad and Dumplings. Then we ordered Pho (soup) and a rice tempeh dish! It was all amazing and what was even more amazing: it was all vegan plant based! Really a must for vegans who love the Asian cuisine. Will definitely visit again.

"This dish knows me. In fact it knows everything about me. I can't even finish eating it, or I will literally be full of myself." Thoughts while eating my quang. I've had many different food experiences, but intuitive food was a first. There was an understanding between me and the food. I can't explain it, just know it was real. Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! Crowded and noisy. Service was fine. Appreciate long shared tables--this seating arrangement allows for meeting new people.

As a non-vegetarian, I have to say Soy have made me happy every time I went there. There is a wide range is options to prefer from. All tasty and all brilliantly made. Super fresh and very different from other vegetarian/vegan places you find in berlin. The menu is quiet elaborate but so is the food. The stew selection is also as good as the food selection. Starting from the appetizer, tried the marinated tofu wrapped in betel leaves, the homemade salad with rice paper strips and the summer roll and all were amazingly tasty. Tried the stuffed tofu stewed in a claypot with traditional spice blend and seitan. Very tasty and pretty unique. Highly recommend. The service is quiet fast. The restaurant is hip, cozy and relax. Location is perfect. Very central, just walking from all the shopping areas in mitte, Berlin.

Really, really, REALLY good food! Love it! I came here because of the vegan food. It was around 19:00 o'clock and the place was really loud and crowded, but I didn't mind (even though I was alone). I don't remember the name of the dish I ordered, but it had udon-noodles, tofu, seitan, vegetables and delicious soy sauce. It was a perfect meal to have after a long day of walking and travelling. The second time I came here, I ordered the dish number 44. It was so good that I almost felt sad when I was halfway trough. After that I ordered a Vietnamese coffee, which was also good. The coffee took like ~15 minutes to drip down to the glass, and because it was the only coffee on the menu, I wish there were maybe a couple more choices of regular coffees to choose from. Still water costs 2,50€, which I think is too expensive. Somebody once said that a good restaurant doesn't charge for water. It bothered me a little, because the bottle was so small and I drink a lot while eating. I like the atmosphere at the restaurant and the staff knows their stuff; they're quick to deliver the meals and also polite. Also the most important note for tourists like me: it's not super expensive. Both meals I ordered were around ~11€ and they're really big and will definitely fill you up. If you want to eat in quiet, I recommend going there around 16:00 o'clock.

All vegan Vietnamese restaurant just a short walk from Alexanderplatz. Make a reservation! We got there just before 6 PM and barely got a table before the joint filled up with a mix of young locals and their international visitors. Food is authentic and delicious. Mom went the less adventurous route with stir fried rice noodles, tofu and veggies. The portion was way too big for one person. More tofu for me! I got the marinated tofu wrapped in shiso leaves, on a bed of steamed rice, fresh salad, herbs and crushed peanuts. OMG flavor orgasm in my mouth. Unbelievable. I really didn't have room for dessert but their options are simply too tempting to pass up. The warm banana wrapped in sweet sticky rice and sprinkled with peanuts. Ridiculous, 100% crave worthy. Most dishes are not only vegan but also gluten-free since the noodles are mostly rice or bean thread. This would be a regular spot if I still lived in Berlin.

I am not a vegan. In fact, I actively avoid vegan food because I like having eggs and cheese in my life (free range, don't worry). However, this is vegan food as it should always be. This place won't scare carnivores away, go and have anything on the menu. Everything I tried was good. They also do lovely whole-flower Jasmin tea.

Absolutely one one of the most amazing places I've ever eaten. I have to say, I didn't believe in vegan food before, but if I had to eat at Soy for the rest of my life, I might STILL be able die happy. Soy is vegan-friendly, but still has non-vegan options to diversify the menu. I have to say, everything looked absolutely delicious. I had the sautéed rice noodles myself, and every single component of the dish tasted incredible and was cooked perfectly. We came in on a pretty busy night, but it only took about 15 minutes for our party of 3 to be seated. The service is sporadic- the day I was there, there were probably 4 waiters servicing ~80 people which was insane. We didn't get much attention, and had to shift tables once because a large group came in. The food also took a very long time to arrive. It was well worth it though, and even with the relatively poor service, I still rate this a 5/5. HIGHLY recommend.

I would recommend to start with one of these!

Nice ambiance and solid vegan food, but with how much competition there is here for vegan Vietnamese I think I could be better.

It is hard to get good vegetarian versions, since most dishes use fish sauce and you can't just substitute soy sauce and have it taste right unless you really know how to use the rest of the seasonings. Clearly, they do here. The place was very quiet, which is surprising, because it is a gem. I ordered a big bowl of soup which was new to me. It had coconut milk and peanuts with several kinds of mushrooms and rice noodles. Highly recommended. I wish I were staying longer so I can return.

As my wife is a vegetarian and I am not we always try to find the perfect place that makes us both happy. This might just be the one. Not once have I missed meat in any of their dishes. The food here is flavorful, rich, interesting, full of great textures and always presented with a smile. It beats hands down some of the more fancy and famous vegan and vegetarian restaurants in the neighborhood. To round things up: The have pretty great wine for little money. At present still a bit odd an insiders tip but I guess not for very long. My favorite dish on the menu is the No. 20. Highly recommended.

We had spring rolls (they cut it up so it's a good sharing dish), glass noodle salad and shrimp curry. All pretty good although I'd expected the glass noodles to be spicier. Like most of the restaurants in this area it was cash only (or some kind of local debit card), no credit card which was a bit inconvenient but thankfully we managed since the price was quite reasonable -3 items plus a drink came to about 30 euros.

That combo is rare to come by - so no wonder why this place is always packed. The poor waitress is running around like crazy.. Everything on the menu looks great, and I can endorse both the summer rolls, as well as the fish and veggie curries. Kudos for using organic sweet potato. The mango lasso is a delight, while their take on the mohito is a bland affair. The only big drawback, and BIG it is.. there's now vegetarian pho on the menu! What's up with that???
