With a month in of traveling through Eastern Europe, I was having serious cravings for a classic bowl of pho!! I could wait yet another month more for Vietnamese food. So when I landed in the heart of Berlin (in Mitte), my first stop in Western Europe, I made a B-line without hesitation. The highlight here for me was the raw egg served in a separate bowl with broth. The egg poaches itself in the hot broth. And it's so good!! I haven't had this since I was in Hanoi all the time, and where it's commonplace. The pho bowls (triple beef combo & chicken pho) were just okay. Broth came out piping hot, but also heavy on the MSG. I swear I was drinking water non-stop all night. Also, they really skimp on the noodles. I mean, dry rice noodles are very inexpensive (fresh noodles aren't available here), and most places load up on the noodles. The deep fried breadsticks came out cold and somewhat hardened. We were there for dinner and I'm guessing they were fried much earlier in the day. Disappointing that they weren't even barely warm. Service was friendly, and apparently a popular spot in Mitte. I'm not well versed on pho in Berlin, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here. There are actually quite a lot of pho spots in Berlin, which I subsequently tried and enjoyed more. read more

Walking in and being met with the Vietnamese Communist Flag is a bit unnerving. But let's put politics aside and focus on the pho here. The soup was very flavorful. Broth nice clean and clear of grease. Generous amount of noodles. I had the pho tai but I think my meat was a bit too thick and cooked. It didn't taste like the usual thin rare slices. It came with bean sprouts (we had to ask for more; they give little compared to the US), basil, sliced chili peppers, and limes. Perfect. I enjoyed it so much that I didn't even add sriracha. That's when I know it's good. If you can ignore that lit up communist flag, pop in for a very good bowl of pho. read more

We arrived at 4pm and it was packed inside, although there was plenty of seating outside (it was cold even with the heaters). Pho broth was clear and yummy. We ordered chicken, meatball, beef and mix. Also got the papaya salad, chicken on a lime, sweet potato fries and the fried taro rolls. All excellent. Only complaints were it's a smaller bowl and in Europe, they don't use those soup spoons, just a large spoon. Would come again. Speak great English, Vietnamese and German (duh!). Takes card. Oh and my daughter thought it was legit because they served the Rooster Sriracha (most of the time you see a duck or goose brand)! read more

I have been sick with a flu for the passed 2 days and all I wanted was soup. Especially Vietnamese soup. Walking around outside our hotel we stumbled upon this place. With a quick check on Yelp, we decided to give it a try. The whiff coming from the kitchen was legit. It smelled like in Vietnam :D We sat outside as they have heat lamps. The staff was very nice and polite. The ambience was inviting. The whole time we were there people kept coming in and/or waited to be seated. It was a non-stop show. I started off with a fresh sugar cane juice w kumquat & mint. We took a glass noodle salad, a green papaya salad, a shrimp curry and 2 bun thang. Everything was yummy. I won't say "authentic" because Im sure there are ingredients that are harder to get than back in Vietnam but everything taste very close to what you'd get there. The Pho - Noodlebar is a very cozy and warmhearted Vietnamese restaurant with a young in Mitte, located close to the Ubahn station 'Oranienburger Tor'. It is a newly opened business specialized in the traditional Vietnamese noodle soup 'Pho'. Food: The menu is rather compact and includes smaller finger food dishes, variations of the traditional Pho, some rice dishes and a dessert section. Even though, variety is not big, the dishes I tried are really authentic and delicious. Especially the smaller dishes and the Pho taste great, and are one of the best Phos in Berlin. The home made ice teas are worth to try - very tasty an refreshing. They use fresh herbs and great ingredients, such as lime, mint, lemongrass, etc. for the drinks. Service: A very young and attentive team. The dishes are served quickly and always with a smile. :) Especially, the owner is really putting effort into her business and takes care personally of the comfort and enjoyment of her guests. Interior/Ambience: The restaurant has a nice outdoor space, where guests can enjoy their meals in the sun, but the interior inside the place is nicely decorated as well. It reminds of a traditional Vietnamese home and gives a warm and cozy impression. Price: The price range per person varies from 8-15 Euros. Even though, you can find cheaper places nearby, the quality and authenticity of the dishes are really high and therefore totally worth it. Most of the dishes are homemade and prepared with care, which you can taste! It is one of my favourite spots for Vietnamese food in Mitte, not only because it has great noodle soups and yummy small dishes, but also because it tastes very much like home ! Worse disappointing Phõ I've tried, totally watered-down liquid (not catergorizable as "soup/ broth"), on top of that the pricey tag that comes along with it (10,00€) did not do any justice at all for the lack-of-quality. Add to that, the waiter expressing discontent of the tip given. Any tip should be appreciated, in this case I didn't feel inclined to tip, but did anyway to be polite, however receiving a discontent reaction. read more

I haven't written a review in years but felt compelled to write about this place. I must've eaten at a different restaurant considering all the rave reviews. Let me be clear- i didn't expect this pho to be like pho in Vietnam or an area with a large concentration of Vietnamese. Food was very bland, tiny portions and service was horrible. To be fair they are very understaffed and had a German boy running arround like crazy. I asked for water three times from 3 separate workers and was denied by the whom appeared to be the manager because normally they don't serve more than 2 super tiny glasses. I then asked for the check and sat there for 10 minutes- got really annoyed as I was dying of thirst and headed up front where I stood waiting again. I don't think this is an issue of the restaurant not wanting to offer quality service, just bad training and communication. read more

We came on a Tuesday night and it was fairly busy, but we easily got seat for two and the staff was really welcoming. We got the Mr & Mrs Pho with a Lychee Cucumber drink. The broth of the soup was really delicious and full of flavor. They give a generous portion of meat and not a whole abundance of noodles, which I personally enjoy. We love and eat a lot of Vietnamese food and we think the food here is really good. The pho portions aren't gigantic like lots of places in the US, but they're definitely enough for a meal. The curry here is also excellent, especially if they have a daily special curry. We've tried a few of their drinks, they were all good, but we loved the Song-Koi Dream. Definitely worth having in Berlin if you're in the mood for Vietnamese. Also, the staff is super nice and speaks English and they have English menus. read more

We are from California, so maybe we just have high standards for good Pho and excellent customer service. This place lacks customer service, and they are cheap with giving you anything extra. Here are some examples. We asked for tap water and they gave us the smallest cups with maybe two gulps of water. When we asked for more, they said only the first cup of water is free and they would need to charge for more. I asked for a lemon wedge with my water and they would only give me one if I bought a bottle of still water, so I did. The lime was so tiny, almost non existent. Next, the pho comes in a smaller bowl, not like the kind you're used to in America. So you're paying more for less. Then, they gave us a tiny bowl filled with bean sprouts for 5 people. There were only enough to give to 3 of us, sparingly. We asked for more and they gave attitude and brought us back another small bowl filled with even less. Also, when they brought us the pho, they couldn't keep the order straight and brought wrong orders, which we sent back. At the end when the bill came, they tried to charge us for the bowls we didn't consume. The broth was tasty. The noodle used is a rice noodle normally used for pad thai back home, it's not what you expect if you've had pho in Cali. The terrible customer service alone, makes it not worth it for the five of us that went. read more
