I go here often for lunch because it's close to my job, and the service isn't usually that slow. The food is usually warm (not fresh or hot). The service is hit or miss. I've never come across a happy cashier. They seem like they hate their job & just want to go home. I don't usually take offense because I feel that way about my job most days too. Lol. The main complaint that I have is that every time I get a drink from there, the cup always leaks. I mean, ALWAYS!!! I do not know what's up with the styrofoam, but they need to change their cups. Cookout is cookout at the end of the day. This one I've been to a couple times and have no complaints about it. They are notoriously slow, which is not the best, but I mean I feel like that has a lot of factors that go into that so I'm not going to be too upset about it. But it is noticeable. But, at least they're nice and very friendly when they do get to you so that's a plus. I usually go get a couple of steakhouse burgers and some cheese bites, maybe some cheer wine if I'm into it. Visited your location on S. Wilmington St and Chapanoke Road in Raleigh around 1:30AM on 12/27 and placed an order for a cookout tray with spicy Chicken Sandwich Club Style and a barbeque sandwich in drive thru #1, during my wait at the window i noticed the cashier making milkshakes with an ungloved (right) hand touching the ingredients to make the product while the other hand (left) was gloved and used to start the machine which is grossly unsanitary. After she handed me my order thru the drive thru window, i noticed that the order given was incorrect. I then proceeded to call her back to the window to advise her that my order was not correct and she retrieved the order and placed it back on the cashier stand, my hope is that it was not provided to another customer after being passed out the window. another person then came to the window and gave me my order, to which once i got home i opened the chicken sandwich and there was no chicken patty inside, only the condiments and bun. I personally have never received such low level of service from a cookout establishment from both the front end staff and the kitchen and usually the order i place when frequenting this location is satisfactory. First of all, the staff here at this cookout are quite rude. Every sane person expects the upmost service when ordering from cookout at 12:30 am. Hence when I overhead the lady ahead of me screaming at some random frat guy I was flabbergasted. I ordered a cheeseburger tray w 2 chicken ranch wraps which they must have completely disregarded. Look man, you have a lot of cookout options around this area. Walnut St/Cary is fine, but tiny and their fries aren't always the best. Western BLVD? The line is always ridiculous, you get stuck, and their food isn't always great. But man. Wilmington St. cookout? It can't be beat. The food is not bad here most of the time and they do a good job st getting my orders right for the most part. But the staff is RUDE. 97% of my visits are unpleasant or mediocre at best. Every time I come to this location I feel uncomfortable and like the staff doesnt want to be there or help the customers. Last time we came in, the woman at the drive thru window forgot to give us our chicken wrap in our tray so we went back through the line to get it and she looked at us several times through the closed window and just ignored us for at least a minute before coming up and (rudely) asking what we wanted. Just Awful!!! Went for a late night meal about 11:00. They were not to crowded. I thought my timing was great because they are usually slammed at this time. I've spent a long time getting over my addictions to fast food places that I grew up with in the north. However, since first coming down south several years ago, I have come to the conclusion that Cook Out is simply too good to be considered regular fast food and thus I have absolutely no intentions of limiting my consumption or trying to "quit" with the Cook Out. There really is no reason to go through any other drive through if you live in this area. The prices are incredibly cheap, the portions are large, they are open late, and the food is freaking PHENOMENAL. The cheddar style burger is my favorite "fast food" treat in the area and accompanied by hush puppies (a dozen for .99!) and a fancy milkshake, makes for a great treat. A note on the milkshakes, they can make some incredible combinations with all of the shake ingredients they have. My personal favorite is peanut butter, banana, and Oreo and is the best (cheap) dessert in Raleigh. read more

Love the Cook Out Tray, easily the best $5 you'll spend (trash that $5 footlong...disgusting), and grab a Double Burger with a Chicken Quesadilla and Corn Dog as your side. Wash it down with a Cheerwine or a fantastic milkshake (but don't do it daily. Everything in moderation.) This particular Cook Out has a larger than average walk-up clientele, so watch out when rounding the corner to leave. The staff is always friendly, helpful and fast. Gets me in and out, even at the busiest times. Cook Out is the best fast food joint in the area (and my friends from out of state tell me that they're better than anything they have.) So order a tray and chow down. They're open till 4am on the weekends, so there's no excuse not to go. read more

This place is drive through only. The line goes pretty fast. They have a line on each side of the building. The prices are also cheap. I got their platter which came to $5.94 with a double burger, onion rings, hush puppies and bottled water. That's a great price, but I made the mistake of telling hem to put everything on the burger. It came out tasting of some awful American cheese and had too many condiments placed on it. I would have preferred something a little drier. It left a bad taste in my mouth. This location is particularly busy but the staff is always friendly and REALLY fast even at their busiest.
