Love that this is a LGBTQ-positive space with a beautiful photo op area in the back and lots of cool political signs and magazines. However, the coffee itself was not the best. I got a latte with huckleberry and vanilla, and the huckleberry tasted really fake and too sweet.

Came here to grab a coffee and some breakfast. We ordered a breakfast croissant and bagel sandwich. You are able to customize what you want in your breakfast sandwich. We enjoyed our food from here and got it to go to eat by the beach.

Very good coffee and breakfast foods. 90s grunge feel, amazing art and overall just a fun place. They support the community by giving back, mental health nights, game, art, and karaoke nights among other things. Fun photo space in the back where everything is upside down. Friendly service.

What a fun quirky coffee shop! Walked in to the barista playing punk rock on a Sunday morning and it was awesome! The specials are unique and imaginative but my Lucy's Vector (blended white espresso and amaretto) was good drinking. The barista made my daughter's day when they put extra whip cream on the to go lid.

I happened upon Controversial Coffee as I was looking over Yelp to see what food places we should try on our first trip to Seaside. When I saw this coffee shop, I knew we were 100% getting coffee there. Love the message and the coffee was excellent as well!

The vibes!!! I was visiting from out of town and the name immediately caught my eye. I took the short walk from my hotel to the shop with my dog. The staff gave him a treat and didn't seem to be too bothered by his barking (Sorry!!). The Chai was yummy and the bagel was perfectly toasted. I don't like a ton of cream cheese, but I could easily wipe off the excess. Thankful for a funky, affirming, safe space in the small coastal town of Seaside!!!

Always make a stop at Controversial Coffee when visiting Seaside! It's a nice coffee shop tucked inside a little nook on the main strip. The team working there was very kind to my partner while she ordered and gave her service doggie a little snack too. The room is decorated in artwork and they have a cute little shop of goods you can buy stickers and stuff from. I always judge a spot based on their ability to make a dirty chai and this one didn't disappoint. Photo pictured is an iced oat milk chai latte with two shots of espresso

Love everything about this coffee shop! They seem to be very involved with the community, hosting all sorts of events. They also take donations that go towards meals to feed people in need. Coffee specials were creative and yummy.

Mocha was eh - very little flavor besides the almond milk. Service was about the same. Reviews seem inflated by the vibe.

I was immediately pleased when I walked in to see a beautifully curated selection of their donuts behind glass. Once you order, they pull a fresh one out of a drawer below (great way to store them), not off the counter. I was also struck how clean and organized the shop was inside too. The gal that helped me was attentive and kind as she explained the flavors before me. I ordered a box of buttermilk old fashioned bars, a cherry fritter, a custard filled raised with chocolate topping, a maple covered cinnamon roll (look at that perfect finish on the icing) and a marionberry scone. I tasted them all with a hot vanilla latte (also made fresh in house) and loved every bite. Light, spongy, sweet, creamy and delicious. This is one of my favorite donut shops in Oregon! Truth...

At the time we…read moredidn't notice it, but we went in and ordered a couple cookies as we were just walking by and not from the area and we were curious about the café. Unfortunately, one of the cookies that was ordered, nothing was listed as having chocolate in it, and my wife has issues with chocolate. It is pretty well known that in the food service industry, chocolate and peanuts are one of those things that you should never mess with when it comes to people's intake. The lady I talked to on the phone a day later mentioned that it was vegan chocolate if it made a difference, and quite frankly, I can see where at some level that might make a difference for the dairy, but in the bigger picture, it doesn't make a bit of difference as it is chocolate that is an issue not the dairy. The bottom line is it should've had a label on the shelf tag and it did not. In our opinion, it should even have a listing of the type of chocolate (dark, lite, etc ). As that could have been a hospitalizations worse. Then, at the end of the conversation, the person I talking to was dismissive and just wanted to move on -- clearly not somebody that should be answering the phones if she's not gonna fully listen (even though she said she did) to the very valid concern. She said that there's a recipe book that we could've asked about if we had any concerns. The concern was that there was no listing on the label of the cookie that was on the shelf. Something as simple as "contains chocolate" could have averted this whole situation.
