We stopped in during our visit to Marquette and had some delicious coffee. We lived in the Pacific Northwest for 15 years, so we are picky! Great Coffee shop. Wonderful coffee and the service is top notch. My one concern is when leadership shames an employee in front of customers. This happened recently. Some folks would call shaming - bullying. As a retired Naval Officer, a leadership nugget that I learned years ago is that good leaders praise in public and reprimand in private. This did not happen today. Sad. The overbearing supervisor should have been corrected publicly by the senior supervisor, which did not happen. I believe if you see something and do nothing about it then you are part of the problem. The coffee, service and environment are wonderful. But if an employee loses self control with a subordinate, the sadness for the bullied employee could make the environment and coffee sour. Sour enough to not want to be a returning customer. I am hoping that this recent outburst of employee immaturity is an anomaly, and will not happen again. read more

Simply amazing- would go back again just for the oatmeal. Atmosphere was casual with lots of natural light coming through the big windows. I'd really like to give a 3.5, but... I ordered the quiche, spinach/artichoke/feta, which was *very* good (5 stars). At $5.99 a slice it was a tad spendy but worth it. My coffee was just coffee...no fancy latte with art...and the "just coffee" was below average (2stars). Since it's a coffee shop, the blah coffee led to the overall 3 star rating. I would definitely go back for quiche, but not if I'm in a hurry (little slow). read more

Stopped here for coffee and light breakfast during trip in the UP and had a great experience! House coffee was delicious and we had crepe and quiche. Both were really yummy! They have a crepe station in the one corner where you can watch them being made! They had actual mugs for dining in (whattttt?!) so didn't have to drink out of paper cups while eating. This coffee shop is always busy and i understand why. The food and drinks are very good, i got a tropical tea and vegan peanut butter cookie that were amazing. Although, as previously mentioned, it is quite busy so the service is a little slower than i would like due to the popularity. It took about 10 minutes for all 3 of us to get our drinks and 15 for the food. I would say if you're on no time crunch you should try this place, but if you're looking for a quick coffee to go you might want other options. read more

I always enjoy stopping at Contrast Coffee and getting their loose leaf tea (I'm not a coffee drinker) and it is always such a pleasant experience. The tray the tea comes out on is adorable, the tea tastes great and I love being able to pour my own cups of tea. The atmosphere of the place is also quite relaxing and welcoming, and though I have yet to try their food I've been with friends who ordered crepes that looked delicious and I am quite impressed with the overall experience of this coffee shop (: If you're looking for a reasonably priced coffee or tea, I would definitely recommend this place! read more

Thought the coffee was great (I had a Magic Mocha) and the crepes were pretty tasty too. I tried the Berry crepe, my boyfriend tried the Strawberries and Cream crepe. Wait time is a little longer than your "chain" coffee restaurant, but all good things take time! read more

Delightful! A nice change of pace from the bigger chains. Pleasant atmosphere. Plenty of window so that you can see outside, and plenty of natural light gets inside. My pour-over was excellent, as was the almond and chocolate chip muffin. The one negative is the lack of dedicated parking. I had to orbit the block before finding a space. In fairness though, the target audience of this shop is clearly local college students who are walking anyway. read more

I cannot think of the last time I was dumbstruck by the incredible quality of coffee--but during my recent UP vacation it happened thrice--all at contrast. I had simple almond milk lattes each time. Excellent roast. Rich texture. Depth of flavor. And wonderful service. My daughter had their summer breeze, which contained orange bitters, oat milk, blueberries. I kept begging for sips and I don't usually like sweet coffee drinks. All this with impeccable service. Plus, they had gluten free muffins and scones that my daughter ate and said were delicious. Contrast is probably my favorite coffee shops in town. Not only do they have unique and great tasting coffee, but they also have wonderful food from bakery items to crêpes and paninis. The shop itself is very pretty to look at with its huge windows to let in natural light, the exposed brick, local art work, and wood floors. My favorite part about the shop is the seating right next to the crêpe/panini bar; although the chairs could be more comfy, the experience of watching someone make your crêpe is truly delightful. Since I live very close by to Contrast and visit frequently, I have been able to meet all their staff and unfortunately there are some that bring a better experience into the coffee shop and others. Today I experienced one of the barista's yell at their fellow barista with a room full of customers. Although it was not crazy busy, it was shocking to see someone get yelled at in front of customers. Even worse the manager saw and heard the whole thing and did not once ask the barista to lower his voice or to take it outside. Either way, the place has great coffee I just wish some of the staff had better overall attitudes. OH, I also really want them to start having paper straws or possibly sell reusable contrast exclusive straws because we all love our planet and want to save the turtles, right ? read more
