I ordered an iced matcha latte sweetened with agave. I would have given them 3 stars but I added an extra since they did have agave - uncommon but huge plus for vegans! The drink was pretty sweet, and the matcha was a pale green. I'm not sure if they store it improperly or if they buy a poor quality matcha tea powder but it should be brighter, more vibrant green. I liked this breakfast spot so much that I came back the following day on vacation and ordered the same thing. The crepes were my favorite.. they had a cream sauce that was silky and had a hint of cream cheese in it (I think) and the strawberries were fresh and the crepe was delicate. I am obsessed. I also loved the chai tea, but make sure to specify what kind of milk you want because I think the 2nd day was almond milk maybe and I prefer whole. The monte cristo sandwich was good and came with the blueberry dip on the side but not as good as the crepes. You can sit inside or outside, it seems like to get busy from time to time but the service line seemed to move pretty fast. (They call your name at the counter when food is ready and you pick it up & bus your own table.) It was very cute and had lots of plants. My new favorite spot in Marquette. read more

This was unexpectedly some of the best coffee I've had in Michigan. Contrast Coffee is a bougie, little coffee shop tucked away in Marquette. I stopped by here for some caffeine before a long drive. I ordered an iced coffee. Very smooth and delicious. Besides coffee, they also sell crepes and paninis and even merchandise. There is seating available which makes it a great spot for hanging out or studying. Service was friendly and quick. Great coffee shop. Will definitely be back! read more

Cortado, cortado, cortado. I blame celebrity chef Alton Brown https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alton_Brown for turning me on to these coffee drinks. Instead of foamed milk like you would get in a latte or cappuccino, a cortado is half *steamed* milk and half espresso. It's supposed to be served in a short glass. This morning at Contrast, not only was it served in the proper glass but it was a perfect pour. Delicious, rich coffee and when it's only half milk and half espresso, you can really taste the coffee. I spent about two hours here, working and surfing on their internet. It's a comfy spot and they have a regular flow of customers coming and going. I enjoyed my time here! Came here around 12pm on 9/1/25. Being that it was Labor Day it was super busy so I understand having issues; however, I ordered a 10oz chai latte iced with oatmilk. The barista assisting me at the register read my order back to me "iced 10oz oatmilk chai latte." When they called my name a hot drink appeared. I thought maybe it was for another Grace so I waited a minute and no one claimed the drink so I had to assume it was mine. Being that it was so busy and the baristas were working hard, I didn't want them to correct it, I just thought I would let it cool down a bit then drink it. I had already left the shop and then finally drank it I realized it was definitely dairy milk and not oatmilk. I would understand if it was hot and oatmilk, but I ordered nondairy for a reason. The chai itself was not bad and very spicy (yum), but I was sad I couldn't consume the drink at all and it was too late to go back. I want to give this place another try because it's super cute in there and the staff was very friendly. I'm hope if it was just because they were busy, but if I pay over $6 for a drink, I would like it made right or at least within my dietary guidelines. read more

WOW My matcha latte was delicious! Three things I look for when I enter a new coffee shop: 1. Is there matcha 2. Is there almond milk 3. Is there lavender syrup The answer here is yes to all 3 AND they made my latte perfectly! A lot of times when I order a matcha latte add lavender syrup it really lacks in the sweetness department but this latte was perfect all around. Prefect amount of sweetener and perfect amount of lavender flavor. The flavors they had for the lattes sounded delicious. My boyfriend had a tough time choosing but went with the almond maple. Awesome specialty coffee shop! Great coffee and a great space to do some work. There's lots of tables and plenty of coffee to keep you energized. They have a variety of pour over coffees as well as a full espresso menu. A must for coffee snobs. The barista was friendly and knowledgeable. Located at the corner of W Ohio and N 3rd is a very cute coffee shop with a great welcoming atmosphere and excellent friendly service. I especially liked the exposed brick accent wall with their logo. The wood flooring adds to the warm feeling of this place and large swathes of windows bringing in all the natural light makes it warmer still. Mind you this is summer , I'm sure it's just as beautiful out in the winter! It's got plenty of space to be a workspace of sorts where you can get your reading/writing whatever done. They do have a rather good selection of coffee and teas to chose from and even carry kombutcha to boot! I believe they own a Roastery in iron river and roast their own. They also have a selection of blends and single origin coffees for sale. I do not see any no gmo or fair trade signs on their coffee but I'm told they are ethically sourced. I can not verify this either way but I do hope they go about the accreditation process for fair trade since it seems like the sort of place to do it. They have a variety of plant based milk options for the inner vegan in you. I did not try the bakery but in the corner within the store but the place was spotlessly clean and that's always a good sign. 5 stars all around and here's to seeing some fair trade/ no gmo signs going up :) Update 1 - I liked the place enough to come back here for lunch and have a veggie crepe and needless to say it was delicious! Marquette is so full of lovely coffee shops, it's impossible to pick a favorite. We even had a hard time deciding where should we go because we have only limited time as we're only visiting the city and we can't go to every single one. Contrast coffee happens to open really early (which is perfect for our morning coffee run) and the location is very much within reach. We were very happy that we went. We had it to go, but the place itself is really nice to sit in and do work. If only I have one like this near where I live, but oh well. Anyway, we both went for Blackberry Cobler latte, which was part of their spring menu. It was blackberry puree mixed with espresso topped with steamed oat milk and spiced with cardamom. It was really delicious! We both asked for less sweet, which I think makes it perfect. You can really smell the blackberry. It tastes like a comfortable breakfast in a cup. The crepes are good, the baked goods aren't great. The oatmeal they used to have was great but I think it's gone. Contrast is a great place to unwind, read, study or just do some downtown people watching. It's a pretty forward-looking coffee shop with wood paneled floors and exposed brick walls. In particular, I liked it due to the full wall windows lining the left and front sides. It makes for a very airy feel with all the natural light you could ask for. The drinks were very unique. We landed in Marquette while on vacation. We originally went to Java Bay. Since they only had regular coffee, they referred us to Contrast Coffee for fancy coffee. We got caramel lattes & strawberry fields crepe. We were thoroughly impressed. The lattes were excellent & the crepe was several levels of awesome.
