After installation of my window covers, the noise in my bedroom is 43-50 dB C on average. These window covers only appear to maybe attenuate some medium to high frequency noise. They are not affecting overall noise levels. Any rumbling from trucks, etc, does not seem to be reduced at all. I spent over $3,000 for no reason and wish I had gone with more expensive glass window inserts instead. One reason they may not be working is because they are not properly sealed. There are gaps between the inserts and the surrounding frames. When I asked if they could fix this, they told me "no."

So, there's a lot of cars, acceleration, braking, motorcycles, and not to mention a fire station three blocks away - so lots of sirens. I have 6 large 67" high bay windows that are original wood and face the street. I had them restored, sashes, cords, and pulleys repaired - but they still leaked air and were completely thin when it came to sound insulation. The rooms are also adjacent to my bedroom where we have a 5 month old infant. It's illegal to replace original, street visible wood windows with anything other than identical wood, and in some cases makes no sense due to the hearty construction of the original windows: http://www.sf-planning.org/ftp/files/publications_reports/Standards_for_Window_Replacement.pdf However, this doesn't excuse them from being really poor insulators of sound and air. So, I wanted a solution that would allow me to keep the 107 year old windows but solve my sound and air problems. This seemed impossible until I did some research and found the "Magnetite" offering of window covers. In reading their description online, it seemed like the perfect fit - an unobtrusive steel rail around the interior of the window with an airtight magnet-framed piece of 1/4" acrylic glass snapped on top of it to offer no compromises with visibility or aesthetic but allow for the enhancements I wanted. I called the national number and Kenn from Castle Window Covers, a local Stockton based company gave me a call back early the next day. Kenn and his business partner came out and performed some meticulous measurements, as well as demoed the window covers to me in a sound box. Kenn was upfront and honest - I shouldn't expect the covers to completely eliminate noise, but they will be airtight and they will block out a large spectrum of frequency and overall lower the volume of noise. Within two weeks, Kenn and his partner came back and installed the window covers for 6 windows in about 3 hours. They were clean, efficient, and pleasant to have around. It has now been about 5 days since the install and I am very happy with the purchase for the following reasons: - The windows are definitely airtight now - and they also block a large amount of UV in the morning. These eastern facing windows used to let the sun in and bake my front rooms, now, while it's definitely still warm near the window, the room doesn't achieve the boiling temperatures that it used to. They also keep the temperature more normalized at night - keeping the hot air in and cool air out. - The sound is definitely a huge improvement - while I can definitely still hear road noise it has been reduced to a "mumble." I used to be able to hear car engines idling but that has disappeared, and I don't have to speak over the outsiden oises to hold a conversation. The sirens still come through pretty loud as they are on the higher end of the frequency spectrum, but it's not as piercing as it used to be. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. I just removed one of the covers and the sound difference is tremendous. Kenn was a top-notch communicator, very genuine, the price was reasonable (and I did have a bonified quote to replace these windows with double-paned wood-clad, and can say, these were 1/4 the cost and wouldn't have given me the same enhancements. In all honesty I'd have probably gotten these covers over replacement wood windows.) Another good feature is that these windows are toddler-height with no screens. So these acrylic window covers not only protect my child from breaking the glass with his toys, they also prevent him from falling out!

Megan will charm your pants off until she closes the deal, and then she will turn on you. She will make a million excuses about why things didn't get done or why they didn't show up. They will show you their license but not tell you that it has been PERMANENTLY REVOKED. They will show you their bond but not tell you it's been canceled. They will send employees to your house without providing any worker's comp insurance. And they will DEMAND money for work not yet completed. Anthony and Floors to Ceilings have been referred for criminal prosecution. Please see screenshots from the California Contractors State Licensing Board. Here is my story: I engaged with Megan, who was super responsive and in constant contact with ideas and product options. I was worried that I would need an architect and an engineer before we could take out the pony wall in my living room, so Anthony came out and confirmed it would be no problem. Once the contract was signed, they sent employees out to start painting. I questioned why they were painting when we hadn't taken out the wall. Anthony gave me a story about the order in which things needed to be done. His favorite thing to say is, "trust me; I know what I am doing; I have been doing this for over 20 years". I asked 2-3 times a week about the permit and the inspection. He tried soooo many times to convince us that we should NOT get a permit, which was not an option for me. They tried to say I never asked for a permit, but it is documented that I did and had already paid for it. The painting itself was fine, but their employees dropped white paint all over my black doors. Now I have to have all my doors repainted, which was not in my original scope of work or budget. The painting was not completed. There are still two rooms in my house that have not been touched. They never applied for a permit to take down our wall. The pony wall was opened up along with the ceiling and then abandoned that way - see pics. The electrical outlets were removed; however, the wires were not properly removed or capped; instead just shoved back into the wall. Before the new flooring was installed, I asked about padding or underlayment and was told by Megan that it would void my flooring warranty, so no underlayment was used. They abandoned the project about halfway through laying the flooring. They also left one toilet in a shower and another in my master bedroom after breaking my bed. The new contractor has said that absolutely an underlayment should've been used. We are now paying to have the floor they put down torn back up so that an underlayment can be put down first. The underlayment was revisited because of all the hallow spots we found due to their failure to clean before putting down the new floor. They couldn't even be troubled to sweep the floor first! There was dirt and even pieces of sheetrock under the new flooring. They used a sub-contractor to concrete the side of my house. There were no issues with the sub-contractor or the concrete work. They did a great job! When they abandoned the job, I had no countertops because they had already removed my granite but had yet to install the new countertops. Fortunately, I recognized Anthony's game of taking my money and not paying the people working on my job, so I paid the fabricator directly. After Floors to Ceilings abandoned the project, I was able to get my counters installed. That said, Anthony did try to get the fabricator to refuse to install the counters, but the fabricator came through since I had paid him in full. This is a cautionary tale. I hope this review prevents Anthony, Megan, and Floors to Ceilings from scamming anyone else. I have ALL my text messages and documentation that I am willing to share.
