Dave is really the shutter guru! We wanted to replace our blinds with thick shutters, so I reached out to David. He initially told me that he will not be able to take the job since he was so busy. But he also offered that I reach out to him if I had any questions about the products. I spoke with another person about Hunter Douglas shutters, and they provided me a quote. I just wanted to check with Dave to see if the pricing was OK. He informed me that there were better shutters available for the price that I was being offered. He explained different types of shutters that are available. After about a month, Dave agreed to come by to provide a quote. We decided to go with Sunland shutters since they were more quality product. He was very honest and professional. There was no pressure, and he didn't over promise anything. He informed me the shutters would take approximately three months to arrive since they were coming from a factory overseas. It did take about three months, and he kept me informed. Initial experiences and contact with the company owner coming over to help design/choose what we would put up and how everything would work all went well. However, several months ago our motorized/automated/remote-controlled shades had a motor go out, so we needed service. David was not easy to get hold of to fix the problem, and made many excuses and just seemed to avoid coming out to help fix this problem, something he told us was unlikely to ever happen anyway when we purchased the product initially, and he also told us is a quick and easy fix. When we were finally able to schedule him to come out to fix the shutters (now two of them had broken motors), he was on the phone with the troubleshooting department of the company and had the phone set to speaker. So the plain and simple instructions of the technician on the other line were easy for us to hear, and he specifically did nearly the opposite of what they told him, ending up causing the shutters to completely break. This very much seemed like something done on purpose, because he gets paid by his company to do these service calls, and now he was going to have to make an additional service call to fix the new problem. Neither my wife or myself are experts in this industry, but the instructions were so simple and straightforward, which we could easily hear over speakerphone, that it makes zero sense for him to have done exactly the opposite of what they told him to do. Within five minutes of breaking this extra set of shutters, he started talking about how he needs to get his worker some lunch. Keep in mind that he showed up to the house at 1 PM, about an hour late, and is now complaining that he needs to eat. We didn't make him late, and he easily could have taken care of this prior to showing up, even could have called us to delay our appointment even further for that reason, and we would have understood. He's a nice guy, but from the first time we met him, just seems a little strange overall. Some people are that way, so it's not like that's a big deal. The problem came when his idiosyncrasies ended up causing terrible work in our home and further problems that meant we have to have these blinds open completely 24 hours a day until new motors can be sent out because of the one that broke on its own and the one he broke by not following the phone technician's instructions. We have since found a different company that is a little farther away, but is amazing and we will use him from here on out. I will never allow David in my home again. Buyer beware... read more

I was still in the process of purchasing a new home in Manteca and my top priority was window coverings. I needed to have the privacy and didn't want to worry about someone seeing/looking inside. I had 21 windows to cover and really wanted shutter blinds. I made calls for quotes and first to come out and measure was Costco. Guy came out and measured, gave me a verbal estimate of $13K, which was over my budget. I asked him to send me quote, but never received it. I called other companies (3-day Blinds, MLI and The Shutter Company). When I called MLI and asked how their pricing was compared to Costco, I was told it wasn't too much cheaper. Crossed that one off my list. Made an appt with 3-day Blind. (I cancelled this after meeting with the Shutter Company.) Called the Shutter Company and spoke to Dave, owner. He spoke to me about his experience, how he goes onsite to install and how he's a perfectionist. All sounded good to me. He was able to go to the model home to get an idea of how much the cost of shutter blinds would be. When he called me, he gave me an estimate which was in line with my budget and over 40% less expensive than Costco! We set up an appointment. During the appointment, I was shown the different types, sizes, molding, time frame of delivery and installation. Then off he went to measure the windows in my home and used a leveler to make sure the windows were leveled. He came back, pricing was within my budget and we finalized the order. After we moved into the home, Dave came back out and placed temporary window coverings at no additional charge. This extra perk help relieved the stress of me having to go out, buy and put up the temporary...not to mention it did look nice. Thanks, Dave, for that extra touch. Shutters came in a few days before schedule and was installed today! Both Dave and Nick did a really nice job. They spent a full day here installing each shutter and not rushing the job. You can tell that Dave takes pride with his company and the service he provides. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Dave Collins has completed a Miracle again for us! Beautiful new vinyl shutters in our new master bath shower. For privacy and light, Dave suggested shutters that are split - allowing the top to be open and the bottom half to be closed so you can't see in from outside!
