Replaced alternator on my Mercedes, had to remove turbo lines to access alternator, added different coolant color than was in there, week later water pump went out, paid for that, week later I'm driving hours from my house and the alternator goes out that they just replaced. Brake light on my car went out and I got pulled over for it in Walnut Creek. I needed to get it fixed quickly because I would be driving someone for my voluteer work in the afternoon, and would have to cancel on them if not repaired. After discussing my car's issues at a local Cars&Coffee event, I was suggested to try out Contra Costa Auto Service. I was more than happy to give them a try based on my not so good experience with my local repair shop. Man, am I glad I did. From the beginning, Justin exhibited a professionalism with a side of honesty that is refreshing. My clutch was failing, he suggested a full replacement, which I didn't want to do initially. I ended up going with his suggestion. After completing repairs and test drive, they noticed that there was still a problem. They took it apart, found the issue, and notified me. I was skeptical thinking that here comes the dreaded add on charge(s). No, not the case. There was a broken part which did have to be replaced but no additional labor cost. They could have charged me additional labor for all of this but I only paid for the damaged part. They owned up to the fact that they didn't identify the damage initially. Angel, Justin, Jesse, and the COCO Auto Service crew did a tremendous job on our 92 Yukon to replace its 33 year-old transmission - torque converter, replace the front disk brakes, reseal valve covers, oil pan, replace timing chain and reseal the front of the engine, and hand clean the underside of the truck. Besides their great work, was the excellent level of communication throughout the several day process (new tranny came from Jasper in the mid-west). Once the tranny arrived, all work was completed very promptly. The appointment started with a full assessment of the condition of the truck - with photos which Angel provided the assessment of each finding. Clear estimate was provided for each task and potential savings were identified for overlapping tasks. All three professionals knew the status of the work so a single phone call update was all that was needed. The shop is spotless, well equipped, and with several service slots. I set an appointment online about 5 days in advance. they confirmed it and they again re confirmed it the day before my set appointment. When i get to their shop on time for my appointment, they told me they only have one technician and they cant do my car that day. Things happen with technicians but they did not even bother to call me to inform me to reset the appointment. This review is a couple weeks late, i went to the shop for some noises my car was making. They drove it and looked up the hood to find a issue with my transmission. They worked hard and consistently with my warranty to get it replaced. The process was gruelling between the warranty inspector and the approval but they stayed on it. Told me not worry. They lifted that burden off. They let me know through the whole process of when they ordered. When they got the part and the second it was complete so i could get my baby back. I thought I found a shop for BMW fanatics, but was sadly mistaken. They came highly recommended by the BMW forums too. I brought my beloved ZHP for a small service. I was less than satisfied. My car was filthy afterwards! The steering wheel (alcantara cloth) was all grimy. My hands were black by the time I drove home. They need to do a better job of keeping their hands clean when inside a customers car! Use disposable gloves for crying out loud! Ugh. I had a bad experience at this shop today. The first time I come there so I want to ask questions. So after some teeth were pulled I had some answers. Customer service was lacking. I have had the same Mercedes mechanic for over 20+ years so I was a little nervous. I want to find a permanent place to go to and have trust. My car was pulled in. I go outside to see as much as I can. The mechanic walks over and starts to change the oil. I was watching a few minutes and the next minute my car view is blocked 80%. They pulled in a car right behind mine. I just moved where I could still get a look. The car was moved 15 minutes later. I noticed that they are starting to look around. A few parts were taken off the car. This car was purchased 8 days ago. It was inspected from the dealer and they walked me thru the car. (the car is still under Warranty) This dealer did forget to change the oil which they told me that they would send me a check and I said I would get it done. I was shown the hoses as I watched them pull on hoses and other misc things. I seen the bottom of the car also. So now my car is finished at CCAS. I see mechanics gathered around my car and I'm thinking here we go. So I have a leak between the transmission engine area, I also am told I need new shocks they are also leaking and a hose that was torn away from both ends of connection. They told me the car had a rodent and he did it. So, I'm not buying it. I grab the hose and try to push it back in and it gets bent and wrinkled. This is not what the hose looked like. 4 people seen the engine in the last 8 days including a mechanic at a Concord shop and no one made a comment that there was something wrong with anything including my hoses. I will get the leak looked at under the car, shocks and replace the hose. $ It hopefully will be covered by the warranty. Oh 1 more thing as I was leaving I asked that the mechanic to show me the oil and where it was at on the dipstick. I was told that my car did not have a dipstick.. My car was checked yesterday and the guy pulled out what looked like a magical dipstick that had oil on it. He said your oil needed to be changed, but the level was fine. Okay, So Mr. Mechanic why do you not know that the car has a dipstick.?? ---BEWARE I do have to say that I did talk to Adrian (owner) and he seemed like a great guy. I brought my Trans Am in to have the gears replaced a couple of years ago and they incompetently reconnected my brakes and could have killed me, or worse, I could have killed somebody else. I got almost all the way home after picking my car up and the rear brake line came off (because it clearly wasn't put back on correctly). I'm thankful that it popped off while I was at a slow speed and nearing my turn and nobody was hurt. I then limped it to my house. I had to get the car towed back to the shop where they had to reconnect the brakes and polish up the rear wheel where the brake fluid got on it. Luckily no real issue with it eating away the clear coat. Either way, I will never bring another car to this shop. Poor QC done on the work and I also failed to mention that the gears were not installed correctly. The car howls like a coon dog when you drive it down the road. Don't waste your money on this place. I'd give them no stars if it let me. read more
