I love this comic book store. Every time we go to Denny's my kids always ask to go because they could find every pop toy and comic book their little hearts desire. I always get good vibes walking through that door. The people that work there are very pleasant and helpful. There is a man named Paul that we usually run into when we go. He is such a sweet person. My son loves talking about Star Wars with him. This is the only comics bookstore that we will ever go to because Paul makes our experience wonderful. located in a strip mall next to Denny's, this little comic book shop is chock full of....well, comics and a few action figures/display collectible figures. though they don't have too many Japanese/Asian import toys, this place does have some manga and tons of vintage comic books. the guy who was working there (maybe the owner?) was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. he was also very knowledgeable about....comics. i don't know what else to say, but this is definitely a spot worth checking out for the latest comics! read more

I decided to start reading comics after I was introduced to an incredible graphic novel version of Fahrenheit 451 (by Tim Hamilton) by a customer a few years ago. Continental is down the street from my house and I walked in one day. I had no idea where to start but the owner, Paul, was extremely helpful. He didn't make me feel like such a nube which I appreciated and still do. So go to continental everyone! Continental Comics has become my go to comic book store for my weekly fix. Now i look forward to every Wednesday. One of the owners (I'm not sure if he is the main owner or whatever), Paul, has me spending more than i care to admit. He is a great guy with an amazing sales pitch. Great taste in comics and always recommends enjoyable issues. Especially for a semi-beginner comic book collector. I had tried other comic book stores in the areas but none seemed to have that personal touche. I strongly recommend this comic book store if you're ever in the area and suddenly have this uncontrollable urge to buy comics. P.S. I'm not sure if they read these but just in case. Continental is a marvelous gem of a shop. One that you can only think about with a smile. My experiences with Continental are so wonderful and consistent that I have no qualms about making the 20-30 minute drive, passing up at least 5 other comic book retailers on the way. I now have a box at continental where Paul pulls all my favourite books to wait for me in case I can't come in on Wednesday to get my fix full of first-printings. He is also sure to clue me in on tie-ins I may be missing, or suggesting books that I will certainly like, but perhaps have not yet discovered. For any back-issue and trade paperback (collected volumes) needs, Continental has it covered, and if for some reason they don't have something you're looking for in stock, they're more than willing to track it down across the country if need be to get it to you. The level of knowledge Paul holds is exemplary, even by the rigourous standards to which the geek community holds comic book retailers. I often clear special time in my schedule to pick Paul's brain on the latest books and enjoy our disagreements as much as when we are of the same mind regarding the latest developments in the world of flights and tights. My proximity to Continental leaves me the envy of my geek friends in Denver and the San Francisco Bay Area, although they are happy with the knowledge that if they are having trouble tracking down or ordering a special item themselves, Paul will zero in and ship it to them direct. It's this level of commitment and service that has kept me loyal to Continental since I discovered them and I recommend them most heartily to all my fellow geeks. read more

This is a true COMICS store. There are some figures and such but I've never really taken much time to browse that selection. The store itself is quite small but is packed floor-to-ceiling with back issues in boxes you'd need a stool to reach. Newer comics line the walls, trades hang out on shelves and racks. The owner is actually a really awesome guy, unlike some other reviewer mentioned, stereotypical only in the sense that he REALLY knows his stuff. But he is more than willing to share all of that information with customers whether or not they are comics pros or newbies and he doesn't talk down to people. He always remembers what I like and suggests new titles based on that all the time, which is just awesome. In short he knows how to keep customers coming back. I have been to a bunch of other stores around the valley but they never give you that special treatment (if they even talk to you at all, once they see you're a girl who's not big on superhero comics). There is a parking lot plus more space in the back, which is nice. The store is pretty stuffy with nerd heat in the summer when there is no AC, that's about the only criticism I have. read more

I've been buying my comics from this store for 19 years now. I started when I was 9 years old, which bears mentioning because unlike some other stores, Continental is family friendly. Your child isn't going to get an eyeful of pornography when you just showed up to get Batman for your kid. After checking out 3 comic book stores in the area, this is the only one my parents would bring me to when I was 9 years old. If I brought my kids here, the staff would treat them kindly and argue with them about which X-Men is best. That's just what they do. Paul (the owner) is a really nice guy. He'll talk your ear off if you give him a chance, but he'll also go spelunking in the back issues for you if he knows you're looking for something. The store is a tad crowded, but well-lit, well-organized, and well-laid-out. It's not a huge plot of space to begin with, but I think their rack and display system has gotten better with time. I'm not sure what the previous reviewers are talking about when they call this store expensive...the comics are sold pretty much for cover price. All prices for back issues are clearly marked. An entire table has boxes of back issues for $0.99. If you can get something cheaper on e-Bay, nothing is stopping you. If you aren't happy with the price of a book, don't buy it. I've been in that situation, and I have never been hassled as a result of it. In fact the staff actually ENCOURAGED me to get the set off e-Bay for that price. They want your business, but they have to charge you a certain amount to stay in business themselves. They're not going to fight you about that. On the other hand, I don't know too many comic book stores where the staff will set aside your books for 3-4 months while you do a semester abroad at college. The guys and Continental will do that for you. I have had ONE negative experience at Continental in almost two decades, and it was handled immediately to my intense satisfaction. After buying a large number of comics, I arrived home (in San Diego!) to discover that I had been overcharged. I called the store, explained the situation, and was IMMEDIATELY issued store credit. They took my word for the mix-up over the phone, and handled it with class. Why would I shop anywhere else? read more

A dark and disorganized mess of a store with books and collectibles so overpriced that it is scandalous and as the previous reviewer correctly mentions - the hoarder mentality (for example - they are rumored to have kept part of the initial run of Captain America #25 off the shelves the first week it was released - claiming they got shorted - so that they could charge exorbitant fees the next week!) They may have been around for awhile and the guest signings they have are impressive in that they have established long term friendships / relationships in the industry but that does not excuse that practice of overpricing - I had a small comic store (The Screening Room - in Canoga Park) for only 3 years - but at least my customers / friends always came first and as a fellow collector first - I would never take advantage of them and gouge them because I always wanted friendly word of mouth and loyal customers coming back weekly (other factors forced a closing of the store - the comic end of the store was profitable from the beginning and that was due to my being there for my people!) read more

I started collecting comics in the mid-70s, back in the days of 7-11s and drug stores. Continental Comics was the first comic store I ever went to, back in the early '80s, and it became my regular comic shop thereafter, continually beating out the other half-dozen stores I eventually discovered. When I moved to San Francisco in 1984, I bid goodbye to Continental, thinking I would never see her again. Flash forward some 25 years. Now married to a woman whose family lives in Los Angeles, I have the ability to revisit my old comic store whenever visiting the in-laws. When I stepped in the store for the first time in decades--still in the same location after 30 years, a feat for any comic store!--I was amazed. The reviewer who mentions "dark and disorganized" must have stepped into a different store. Not only was it better lit than it was back in the '80s, but it was far cleaner and better organized than half the comic stores I've been in (not only throughout Southern and Northern California, but in Oregon, New York, Georgia...etc., etc.). And I didn't see any indication of overpricing--the items marked above cover price were comparable with what I've seen them selling for at other stores and through online markets. It seems like every time I hear someone saying a comic store is "overpriced," even when they're actually selling things for the fair market value, it's someone looking for quarter bin fare..."something for practically nothing." That's what a bunch of comic stores did in the '90s...right before they went out of business. Obviously Continental Comics, after 30 years, knows how to fairly price comics in order to keep both regulars and occasional walk-ins coming back. And the current owner, Paul, is so refreshing after some of the jackasses I've dealt with behind a comic store counter. If he talks your ear off and says "you should try this comic," it's not because he's trying to make a sale so much as he just has a real passion for comics and people who likewise enjoy comics. I recognized him when I first returned to the store, because he used to shop at Continental back when I did in the '80s and he always used to hang out in the store and talk comics with the employees and other customers. He was never a "hoarder" or "speculator" back then...he was always just a collector who just enjoyed the medium. In fact, he even took joy in picking up issues other collectors needed if he found them at another store (and he never asked for more than he paid). When I was perusing the store last year while visiting, I couldn't help but smile when I overheard him--a couple of times, to different customers--mention that if he didn't have what they were looking for, he would see what he could do to get it for them. Why would he say such a thing if he was hoarding issues? Continental was, for many years, the store I fondly remembered as my "first"...but, these days, I visit it from time to time, thoroughly enjoy the friendly chattiness and enthusiasm of Paul, look at all the improvements to the store since my childhood...and I really, REALLY wish there was a store on par with Continental Comics where I live in San Francisco. read more

Well what can I say about Continental Comics........Words cannot describe the experience it is to open that door and see all those boxes filled with back issues and see all the new comics. Paul, the owner of the store, makes you feel welcomed and never ignores your thoughts. He knows how to make you laugh and can tell what you will be into with just one look. I will never forget the day Paul told me I will make you read superhero comics not that Betty and Veronica stuff. Sure enough a couple weeks went by and there it was Wonder Woman Blackest Night Issue 2 I take a quick look inside and I could not put it down. I got so obsessed with Wonder Woman I now have Wonder Woman socks. Thanks Paul. Know I don't even pay attention to anything that is in one way not related to Wonder Woman. I'm surprised he has not succeeded with getting me to fall in love with Marvel because anyone who knows me I do not like Marvel. I would not be surprised that pretty soon I am in love with it (Knocking on wood that it doesn't happen). If it does I would be one poor college student. Soon enough when you become a regular you create a bond with Paul I now even consider him like my second dad. Paul when you read this because I know you have been waiting patiently thanks for bringing me and Ricardo to like something ignored by many people but absolutely amazing to others. My son Owen and I have been regulars at this terrific store for around FIVE years now. Therefore, it should go without saying that we love the place. Paul (the owner) is a workaholic, well organized, local to the Valley, humorous (in a sarcastic manner), strongly opinionated (in regards to comic related subjects), reasonably priced, possessive of the requisite amount of nerdy-ness to be infinitely informative, and is absolutely............ CANTANKEROUS! We wouldn't want him to be any other way. Let's not forget his right hand, and left hand acolytes, Salem & Ed, who have been working at Continental for a long time. In fact, I think Ed has been working there for around 12 years. What is somewhat funny is the fact that although my boy enjoys comic books, we usually exit the store with 2-3 Funko Pop bobbleheads. We have purchased nearly 200 of the these toys, and nearly 100 of them were bought at the beloved Continental Comics!!! read more

One of the LCS that has been around for a while always has a good amount of comics the day they come out they even order extras or a big amount just in case. Thu have a good selection of pops as well as exclusives from other places. Only really downfall is some of the people there one guy really tries to up sell on stuff a lot literally got me to buy this Princess Leigha because he said they were going to raise the price because they pulled her so I bought it as he was raising the price on all of them. I thought I got a sweet deal until I looked on eBay and noticed that it was 12 dollars everywhere and the one hat was actually rare was the blue box one. So smart guy over there do a little more research before you tell your customers wrong info now I have a pop I really don't want cause it ain't worth shit lol. And the same guy brags about what he just sold after you leave I seen him do it after a sale instead of being happy that they helped the customer he was happy on how he unsold he customer smh still overall good comic shop. And if a girl walks in they treat them real good compared to another random dude. I come in don't know anyone they just say hi my gf comes in after me and they are like hi how are you what can I help you with today let me know if you need help finding something lol smh. Again store is cool but staff can use a little help. Main owner is dope though old school comic owner. Again those are real experiences but doesn't stop me from coming this is still an original shop and one to "support the LCS" thumbs up read more
