I went here over the weekend and enjoyed looking at the comic selections. Continental Comics had a decent amount of new comics, but a crap load of back issues. I was looking for Uncanny X-Men Bronze Age, they carried more than a lot of comic books stores would have. If you're looking for other back issued, I can almost guarantee they're going to have a big selection of that title. If you're looking for back issues, you should check this place out. Came here after going here a lot in my childhood. Didnt know if the owner was that creepy and just weird back then maybe i didnt notice because i was a kid. But yeah he definitely has simpsons comic book guy condescending vibes mixed with A LOT of creepiness. Being in the store with just you and him is not pleasant. Out of all the comic stores I've gone to, this is the worst comic store service I've ever been. The person who seemed to own it was extremely condescending. I only got help after 20 minutes of the worker being on the phone, and I asked for any death of superman single issues. I followed my question by asking for any newsstand variants, he called my request bullsh-. I apologized, and he said "it's okay, a lack of education will do that". He dismissed any questions after that with rude remarks and attitude. For someone that had an amazing collection of valuable comics, the worker made it extremely hard to want to purchase from them ever. What a terrible experience. read more

Love this place. Paul is a walking encyclopedia. I've been coming here for more than 30 years and have never left disappointed. I can walk in with a vague idea of what I'm looking for and within minutes he'll have a handful of titles in hand with a reason for each recommendation. It's a blessing that I can now take my kids here and get recommendations that are age appropriate for them too. Great selection, reasonable prices, and great service. read more

My absolute favorite comics shop. Paul is a the most knowledgeable comics seller Ive ever run into and he spoiled me forever since this was my first shop years ago. Hes very sweet, but that knowledge comes with really skillful upselling. Cant be mad though, because he's right. His staff has been pretty great and helpful. Good to talk to. Back issues galore! I could spend hours here. This is my go to spot if I want to find some key back issues that other shops simply don't have. Don't get me wrong, Ebay and Craigslist is alright, but nothing truly compares to the joy of "doing the leg work" and getting a nice haul. read more

It's full of comics dating back decades but also maintains an up to date selection of the latest releases. The owner and manager, Paul, is kind and helpful for new and old fans alike. He has made numerous great recommendations and his shop has become one of the hidden gems of the areas. It's also good for funko pops, collectibles and all manner of comic fun. This store has a large back issue selection. Chances are that whatever you are looking for you will find it here. The store is curated, but be prepared to pay full price. If you need a back issue fix or you are looking for that action figure and you don't mind paying full price, this might be your place. However, I can't say the same for the management. A few reviews mention how Paul can be condescending. I have had personal experience with this.. As a woman I found this to be patronizing. Stay away from politics or anything he doesn't like. Everyone has an opinion and a person has every right to run a business however they see fit but at least be respectful to your patrons. If you are a young woman and Paul asks for a hug, my advice is don't do it. There are other stores that are respectful of their clients. read more

What is there to say about Paul that hasn't already been said? Continental Comics is filled with more than just back issues, trades, funko pops, and the new weekly comics that come out. It's filled with something that most comic book stores fail to present: abundant knowledge of comic books and their history. The store is kept tight and clean, with easy to access books displayed all over the place and marketed at a reasonable value. Paul has been nothing but supportive and charitable in helping out his customers find what they're looking for, never leaving you empty handed and having you walk out the door satisfied. His associate Ed is a great addition to the store, making sure that your books are safe and sturdy, and welcoming you with a warm greeting. Paul has introduced me to some of the finest works from some of the best comic book writers, artists, inkers, editors, etc., giving me amounts of homework to read and consume to appreciate what once was. He's helped me grow my ever-loving collection of Epic Collections and continues to do so by recommending me a book or two once a month and I really can't complain. I am grateful for all the knowledge he passes down and couldn't ask for a better mentor and friend as I make my way to this thing called "adulthood." If you're thinking of heading over to Continental Comics, hop inside that car of yours and don't hesitate to pedal to the metal on your way over there. This is a great store. All about comics. I always spend more than I mean to, which fills me with delight and frustration. Delight that they always seem to have what I'm looking for and frustration that I'm not rich... I guess the only real drawback is that you can't easily peruse the back issues because of the way they are stored. If you have a want list and ask them, they will happily get the books for you. It just kind of means you go in, get your books and leave. I do so enjoy the search. Still, highly recommended for serious comic book collectors. read more

We drove by this place today and decided to come back later. The moment we walked in there was a conversation about Doctor Who going on and I knew this was gonna be our new go-to comic book store. This place is nicely organized by alphabetical order. Most of the comics are in labeled boxes. If you know what you're looking for, you can easily find it. They even have foot stools for you to use. The owner was super nice and we came away with a bunch of comics and some nice Funko Pop figurines. read more

Moved back to LA about two months ago after some time in Chicago. Been slowly hitting all of the comic shops in the area trying to finish this run I'm collecting. Having zero luck because apparently comic shops in LA are allergic to back issues (honestly, it's just a space issue. I get that. I'm just being annoyed). Anyhow, I finally had the time to make the drive up to Continental today and boy am I glad I did. I walked in with my list of which issues I still needed - only 14 - and found the place empty save the guy working there. It's a Monday at like 1pm so not surprised it's empty. Anyhow, the guy is chillin' watching some TV not really paying me any mind at first. The first thing I notice is the wall of back issues and immediately get excited. Finally, back issues and lots of them. I mention to the guy working there that I'm searching for back issues and without hesitation he springs out of his chair, asks me what I'm after and proceeds to help me look through the boxes for the issues on my list. When it was all said and done, we found 8 of the 14 I needed. Seriously one of the best comic shop experiences I've ever had. I'm not a huge comic-book guy, more of a casual fan. So, often when I go into shops I do feel like a bit of an outsider in a world that is not my own. Not here. The guy was unbelievably nice, welcoming and helpful. No attitude at all. It was great. I'm definitely gonna go back in a few months in hopes that some or all of my remaining six issues came in. read more

I was looking for some back issues and was in the area, so decided to try this place out. They have a pretty decent selection! Walls of boxes and I mean walls. You do have to take them out on your own, so hopefully you're not scared of ladders or are very tall. The prices are a little bit inflated, but most places are when it comes to back issues. Service was kinda weird as the guy in the front seemed to be in his own zone, but besides that this is a pretty cool location for comics. read more

I really like this place. I thought I should update my review. I have NEVER seen a comic book store with back-issues like this. The volume, the selection, the ease of access, the organization, and the combination of new and old, rare and common, valuable and otherwise; no one has back-issues like this place. I feel that my last review downplayed the selection of new comics. This store has a respectable amount of new comics and they will do subscriptions and put away service. (I have not taken advantage of these services yet but I think I might soon) There is not a large amount of trade paper back or graphic novels but as long as you know what to expect before you show up the fantastic and enthusiastic service as well as the EPIC selection of back-issues totally make up for anything. Sleeper #1, OG eclipse Miracle Man, a full set of Frank Miller's 300, the last issue of Strazinsky's Amazing Spider Man (#520) that I needed; he had it. He even pitched Brubaker's Pulp and Cruel Summer graphic novels that I didn't have. The prices are premium, but you pay for the service and them actually having your comics in stock. High key, I was all up and down LA and even Las Vegas over the weekend looking for these titles. Continental Comics shot up into my Top 3 comic book shops list today. In the mid 90's, every Saturday morning consisted of cartoons starting at 7am, a delicious breakfast by 9am, and topped off by a helping of WWF Superstars at 11am . Being the youngest of three, there was always something to do, something to watch, something to play. But, plans were also usually foiled by my pops who would drag us outdoors to do chores and overall ruin our adolescent buzz. Things would change when my oldest brother purchased his first car. Our Saturday morning festivities would transcend into a weekly visit to 7-11 in order to pick up the largest Slurpee available, followed by an hour or two at Family Fun Arcade. By the time our quarters ran out there was only one place left to visit, a small comic book shop right across the street from the cacophony of Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter. It was called Continental Comics. Today, at 30 years old, both my older siblings have moved out. And while I attempt to hold down the fort, their former bedroom still displays Savage Dragon and Shi comics on the walls. The city of Granada Hills has also undergone some serious changes. Gone is the historic Family Fun Arcade, and the big red structure that once was a Circuit City is now some sort of church. Come to think of it, I don't think I've even glanced in that direction in many years to make sure that's a factual statement. Regardless, despite the ever changing surroundings, Continental Comics still stands. As a freshmen composition college instructor, literature and writing has become my life (though it may not reflect well in my Yelp reviews har-har). These past few weeks I finally decided to embark into the world of comic books, and rekindle that interest that was always in my doorstep. Walking into Continental Comics for the first time in over 15 years was a gut-punch in every positive sense imaginable. The walls are filled with classic back-issues, the statues and action figures still hang above the racks, and happy-go lucky owner Paul still hangs out behind the counter. As you can imagine, stepping into this realm can be absolutely terrifying and overwhelming. However, after conversing with Paul a bit, me and the GF find ourselves dreaming about going back. I'm constantly researching and reading about new issues, new properties; eager to create the perfect pull-list of diverse series to keep me engaged. In fact, I even bought a longbox which is already 25% full after only 3 weeks. I, too, intended to walk-in and buy only an issue or two, but instead I find myself struggling against my wallet. I am happy to say that the legends and stories you have read about Continental Comics are in fact true. Paul is a wonderful character that can be more than helpful, and the shop itself is by far an important monument of the valley.
