Every single time I look for a comic I get either laughed at or just smirked at by this particular employee. He called me "insane"' though he said "no offense" and probably meant to be humorous. Not only that but he tells the coming employee about my search for this comic and repeatedly calls me insane. The other employee was more of a human being about it and just politely suggests to look online.... Another day I called for a particular back issue comic asking if it were in stock and I get the same rude employee from last time and instead of looking for it or giving a polite suggestion he just kept repeating "dude that book is so hot right now I don't even know if we have that. That book is so hot right now" it was a yes or no question and once again continues to condescend my foolish search..... I felt insulted and am never coming back here again. read more

Continental comics has decent pop Funkos which is why I would go, but out of the 4 or 5 times I went 2 of the times the owner was super rude to my boyfriend over nothing but a simple question and the other time for no reason at all. He got extremely hostile, I would return but he made me extremely uncomfortable on those occasions. Take your business elsewhere. read more

I'm sorry for my lateness in updating. I will pour all of my praise into this review and leave none for any other comic book store. (For a while at least!) There are so many comics in this store it's pretty crazy. A literal wall of comics that I'm sure take over the entire back of the store. All the boxes are labeled clearly and any comic you are looking to find has a pretty good chance to be in this store. One of the best things about this store is the owner. Paul is so sweet. Every time I go there he always points out the spooky style comics I like. Then I always end up spending 3x the amount because I love all of his suggestions and snatch them up. He has yet to steer me wrong! ** Can I just shout out that it was because of Paul that I read The Walking Dead? I'm serious. He introduced me to the series a couple years ago. Came in store first time cool comics, cool funko pops, but gross old man! I had been looking around for maybe about 10 minutes and while looking around the dude was blowing his nose like every minute while he was EATING! and then wiping his hands on his clothes like do you know what hand sanitizer is?? absolutely nasty and dirty man. I had found two funko pops and at that point I was just like okay let me just buy these and get out of here. Then I was about to check out and I was thinking okay let me not ask for a bag and hopefully he gets that I dont want him to touch them right? so I show him the price and say just these two no bag then he puts his hands out for a good 20 seconds so I was like okay fine then he grabs them to put them on the counter but whatever then I pay and leave only to get to my car and realize one of the pops that I bought was one I already had and it was like a different version completely my fault but I was very disappointed and just went back in the store to maybe see if I could get a refund or swap it out yes there is a no refund sign but I didn't see that until I walked back in so I just asked anyway and this bug eyed old man just makes some dumb excuse like he didn't even say anything about the sign lol but no refund or anything but if you wanted to see a real review there you go. read more

When I moved to Los Angeles from Arkansas, I spent almost a month trying to find a good comic book store. When I walked into CC, I was greeted kindly and treated with respect.. which is honestly not something you get all that often when you're a woman going into a comic book store. He was friendly, and I've gotten to know him since the two years I've lived in LA. Paul has gone above and beyond to help me beyond just buying comics, but introducing me to a lot of industry professionals and getting me noticed. He didn't have to do anything like that at all, but he did anyway to be kind. He's treated my son with kindness despite him being extremely hyperactive. He doesn't yell, he doesn't freak out over it. He treats him like a kid. That's why I still shop there despite moving half an hour away to Pasadena. I would go to no other place to buy my comics now, even if I live just a block away from one now. This store has my upmost respect and my business as long as I live in LA. read more

I have a Pull list with them and its a great service offered. Although the place is small mainly because of the whole wall of back issues it's still a gem. While this store looks like the shop from The Simpsons, it's owner is the exact opposite. I can't remember his name, but he is really nice, very helpful, and knows when to talk shop or just to let you shop. I used to stop in here when I went to CSUN and had time to kill. It's always stocked - I've never been in there and seen an empty rack or sold out issue. I always ended up walking out with more then I expected because they always had more then I thought they would! Great selection of graphic novels, the store is very neat and the selection of figures from the new stuff to the old stuff that takes you back to your childhood. I'd always walk into this store every now in then, since 2004. Recently been getting more heavily into comics and this is my store to get my fix. The folks over here are very cool and helpful when looking for a specific comic. There's a massive collection of back issue completely covering up the walls. Its a good time and I make sure to go inside at least once a week. Whether it may be heroes, demons, vampires, zombies, ponies, or a punk rocking jesus. This shop is down the street from my home, I go there at least twice a month with my 8 year old son and 6 year old daughter. Great store with an awesome selection, Paul (the owner) is a down to earth guy with a vast knowledge of comic books...all these other reviews stating he is not very friendly are funny to me...those people might just be super sensitive to jokes or something. I keep coming back to this shop so obviously I recommend it, last time I went I was able to find the entire Spider Man Clone Saga series! read more

I signed up for Yelp to make sure that I could give Continental Comics the high praise that it deserves. It's an excellent store and serves as a shining example of why it's important to support your local brick and mortar stores. I wanted to buy some comics to read with my daughters as a fun way to bond with them. The problem was that I didn't have much knowledge of the comic book world. I initially tried searching online to buy the comics, but it soon became clear that the internet was terribly unhelpful for my search needs. I then decided to drive to Continental Comics. Paul greeted me as soon as I walked in the door. He had a wonderful attitude and he patiently answered all of my many questions regarding the best comics to buy for my daughters. While my internet search left me clueless, my in-store experience with Paul helped me find the exact comics that I wanted. My trip to the store far exceeded my expectations. It was a very fun experience and I could not be more happy with my purchase! Many purchases can be made online these days, but if you want to buy comics, a trip to the store is vastly superior to the internet. This is especially true with Continental Comics. I think this place is great. The staff was very helpful and guided me towards titles I didn't even realize that I would like. Paul and Ed were both very knowledgeable and very thorough on any questions about comics and science fiction that I happened to ask. I very much enjoyed speaking to them(For which I have to apologize for) for a very lengthily time about the comic universe and movie titles affecting the comic book world. Continental Comics is one of those comic stores that is a comic collector's delight. If you are looking for back issues, THIS IS YOUR STORE! It is truly one of the better comic shops here in Los Angeles County. While hipster stores like Golden Apple or Secret Headquarters are fun to go to (and I do shop there), Continental Comics does something all of those shops can't do... they'll fill your collection in. While the shop may not be huge in size, it utilizes its space to the fullest. The walls are filled from roof to floor with boxes of back issues which are perfectly labeled to find books. If its not there, it might be in the glass cases where some of the better Silver Age and Bronze Age books could be. The owner takes extreme pride in his books, keeping a tidy and very well lit store (I don't know where some reviewers are seeing when they were walking around the place). The back issues are mainly the Big companies, there are some smaller press books there as well. If you can't find it, the owner will make sure you can get it. Paul (the owner) busts his hump to make sure you'll have that book in your hands the next time you walk through the door. Toys, statues, graphic novels, new comics...it's all here. The store offers a pull service to anyone who wants to be part of the experience. The staff is courteous and passionate in their love of comics and pop culture; their recommendations for new shoppers is pretty spot on. I've been to other stores in the city and out of state as well that the staff won't give you the time of day. This store prides itself on making sure you get a friendly greeting when you walk through the door. Its nice to see a store in a niched, sometimes stereotyped market go against the grain and give you its absolute attention. I've been shopping there for over 18 years and Continental Comics has helped me complete runs I thought I'd never thought I'd get to do. For a local Comic book store this is the best company in the valley! It's full of comics, and if they run out and you let them know the make sure they order you what you need. The store owner is very friendly and knows this business very well. I am a huge Batman Fan and i have been purchasing my collection form this store for about four years now. i give it a five star because of the amount of knowledge the store owner and staff has as well as location, the price can be a bit much but seems fair do to convenience. specially when you purchase multiple comics from a collection, they give you a good deal. I absolutely like this store and i recommend it to all comic book fans in the valley. read more

We were excited to check out our local comic store after moving into the area. I took my six-year-old daughter in and the person working there was talking to another guy behind the counter the whole time. He didn't ask if we needed help as we wandered around the cramped spaces trying to find things. When we went to make our purchase, he didn't ask "Did you find everything okay?" or anything like that. He continued to talk to the other guy the whole time, and in the course of that he said "sh*t" right in front of my little girl, completely oblivious. Absolutely unacceptable. I expected to love this place based on reviews, and will surely need to go there again at some point since it's so close. One word "Overprice" for their back issue comics. A typical comics book store with alot of back issues. I found what I wanted and there were no price as mark otherwise so I'm guessing cover price. The guy rings it up total about $20 buck worth of comics for four comics. I walked out of there not knowing what he had charged me because he did not give me the receipt for it. I later added it up to be just about $15 with cover price for the comics. Kinda underhand practice don't you think? read more

My Fiance introduced me to this comic book shop saying that I would love the owner and that they are good people. Me being me I was curious, I am not very big on comic books but I do love my manga. I went in their for the first time, and the owner was very friendly, and I was amazed at the collection in front of my eyes. The owner understood the type of person I was and had a pretty good idea as to what I would like. So he recommended some comic books, knowing that I was trying to develop an interest for them. His recommendations were wonderful, and now if he makes a remark about something I would like, I will would get it and always have a hard time putting the comic down. Over time I began going to the owner for help with gifts for my friends and fiance, and I knew that if I went to him he would do his best to try to hide it even if my fiance was in the shop. Since my fiance has one of the pull service boxes, he would reserve what ever manga he could get that I wanted and had it requested just for me. There was a manga that was difficult to get, but Paul was able to pull it off and get it for me. The store has a lot of character to it, and Paul being who he is makes me want to go in as often as I can. The service is great, the people are friendly, and if you ever want to have a minimum 2 hour conversation on comics or manga, trust me Paul will listen, and be as helpful as he can to any answers that you have. read more

Small sized shop with a ton of back issues. Went in looking for some McFarlane Spider-Man comics. I only found a couple. The owner was very curious to find out why he didn't have those particular issues. He told me if I didn't find it there, that I'd have a hard time finding it anywhere else. Not really, I found it a couple of days later for much less than what I bought the other comics for. There are some "bargain bins" but they were all in trashed condition of lesser known titles. This store has become my go-to place to buy the most current action figures. I've been in there several times, and every time, the people there (whose names I'm not sure of) have been friendly, open and helpful. On a trip there to satisfy my growing addiction to Funko Pops, one of the guys even offered to order in a particular item I had been unable to find, and gave me an approximate date to check back in. I love this comic book store. Every time we go to Denny's my kids always ask to go because they could find every pop toy and comic book their little hearts desire. I always get good vibes walking through that door. The people that work there are very pleasant and helpful. There is a man named Paul that we usually run into when we go. He is such a sweet person. My son loves talking about Star Wars with him. This is the only comics bookstore that we will ever go to because Paul makes our experience wonderful. Continental Comics was the first comic shop I ever went to and I've continued to go there for over 17 years. I've been to other shops but none of them compare to Continental in terms of service, selection, or atmosphere. First, their service to their customers is top notch. At some of the other stores I've been to, I was ignored because of others who were either regulars or obvious big spenders. But here I've seen first-timers come in and are treated with the same courtesy, respect, and distinct sense of humor as their regulars. And plus I think their price is fair on their merchandise as compared to others. I've never seen them price gouge or hoarding their merchandise like seen other shops do. Second, their selection is probably one their better selling points. Their collection of back issue comics is one of the largest I've seen in one store, definitely the largest in the Valley, and with the exception of their high-end comics, like golden & silver age comics, variants, exclusives, and whatnots, they are organized in clear labeled boxes all along two of their three walls . Other stores only keep the "must have" comics in the store, with their other comics either in the back room or at a off site storage, and they are usually sealed up in their plastic bags. But Continental's comics are are all in the store in unsealed bags so you look at them before buying. But comics is just the tip of the iceberg, as they have a great selection of new and old toys, graphic novels, and statues. Third is their atmosphere. This my seem bias because Continental was my first, but this is exactly what I expect a "comic shop" to be, a store with everything needed to satisfy every fan boy's desire. I do admit that it is more cramped in there than other stores, but most other stores don't stock as much stuff as Continental does. So I'm sure there probably are better comic shops in other parts of the country, but in the San Fernando Valley there is only Continental Comics!!! read more

I have been reading comics for over 26 years now and I have never found a store that has made me feel more at home. The store is full of back issues from the Golden age of comics to the new comics that came out this week. As someone who works in the comics world as part of the press (ComicImpact.com). I know I can count on Continental Comics for all my comics. Paul is a great guy and yet I have not been shopping there for years he makes me feel like part of the Continental Comics family. He knows what you like and don't like when it comes to your books and always has a great ideas for new books for you.
