This was my favorite restaurant so far during our 8-day trip to Quebec. The ambiance, service, and food were all top-notch. I ordered the seafood fettuccine and absolutely loved it--it was loaded with shrimp, scallops, mussels, and a touch of lobster. Every bite was delicious. My friend ordered the daily special with chanterelles, bacon, and cream, which, unfortunately, she didn't enjoy as much. Still, I'm giving this place five stars because I'm the one writing the review--and I loved my meal! My travel buddy had a friend who actually lives in Quebec. She picked us up from the airport and took us to our hotel. Along the way, she recommended a list of restaurants to eat at, one of them being Conti Caffe. Conti Caffe is located in Old Quebec and is apparently related to the famous Le Continental (ranked as #24 out of 1440 restaurants in Quebec City). According to their website, Conti Caffe markets themselves as "Italian Delights from Old Quebec". On the menu, they have appetizers, soups, main dishes (from grill to oven, from the sea, pastas and risottos), desserts, and wines (French, Italian, and American wines). My friend and I visited in February 2025. I tried the following: - Le Carosse Cocktail - Spiced Rum, Amarulla Cream, Lemon, Pumpkin Spice, and Pumpkin Pie Bitters - Osso Bucco - veal osso bucco (Milanese Style) served with butter fettuccini Loved my cocktail and Osso Bucco! My friend tried their Steak and Caesar Salad. Ambiance was dressy / trendy but was actually surprised since the restaurant name has "Caffe" in it, I was expecting the atmosphere / ambiance is be more casual. We've already been here twice. They have a lobster menu during this time of year (July). The atmosphere is fine, definitely not why it gets five stars. The service at lunch was fine, when we went back for dinner the next night it was great. I had the lobster poutine and then the lobster roll. Everything was fantastic, they let me sub fries for the chips with the lobster roll. The actual roll it was on wasn't great, but there was enough meat that it didn't matter. The lobster risotto was great, and there was tons of lobster meat on the salad. My dad enjoyed the burger and the other meat dish he got that was served with fettuccine Alfredo. I will not be sad if we visit this place again before we leave. read more

We were looking for a light dinner after a day of traveling . Conti fit the bill perfectly. I had the Lobster risotto off the seasonal menu, and my date had the veal piccata. Both dishes were perfectly prepare and came to the table hot. The veal was done in a lemon sauce with slices of olives, nice and light. Every forkful of my risotto had lobster. The service was attentive and understated. All in all a perfect meal for our first day in Quebec City. read more

Interesting that Conti had 3.5 stars. We were wanting to try another restaurant and waited 30 minutes in line and it looked like another 30 minutes more so we bailed. It's Sunday afternoon about 1.30pm in Old Quebec. We ventured down the street and found Conti. Looked at the menu, good. Checked the tables, only half full. Nice white table clothes and glassware. Ordered a bloody Mary while we perused the menu. Decided to start with the asparagus soup and my wife had the Cesar salad. Very unique salad with lots of crumbly bacon. The soup was good and warming on a 48 degree day. For our main we went with the salmon that comes with saffron rice, diced carrots in a sauce (wished they were whole) asparagus (on the Petite side) . We split this entree and it was plenty for two...good size portions. Staff was nice and attentive. However, like most restaurants they're slow to bring the check. My wife and I visited for dinner on a rainy and quiet Sunday evening. We had reservations but I don't think it mattered. The restaurant was connected to it's older brother and much more expensive, Continental. I mean much much more expensive. The restaurant was located within the walls of upper town and a short walk from most of the hotels in that area. We were happy to provide our winter coats with the coat check person who serviced both restaurants. My wife and I began with dinner salads that had a tasty balsamic dressing. I ordered the penne pasta with tomatoes and basil. I added an order of meatballs with my pasta. My wife ordered the salmon with saffron rice and vegetables. I was very pleased with my al dente cooked penne. A generous portion served with three small sized meatballs. My wife enjoyed her salmon which had a mustard and honey dressing. No room for dessert. The service was excellent and friendly with no language barriers. The prices were reasonable and overall it was an excellent experience. read more

Came here on my first night in Quebec City without a reservation. The restaurant is charming. The service was excellent. We were immediately seated. Within 10 minutes of ordering, we received our appetizers. Everything tasted delicious. My favorite was the Parmesan croquet and asparagus soup. The Caesar salad was also incredible. The veal piccata was excellent as was the filet mignon. Desserts were amazing. Not sure how parking is. We parked at our hotel and walked over. It's located in the heart of Quebec City. read more

So I came here on a recommendation from a family member and I'm quite glad I did. I think it is perhaps a little touristy or something, due to the location, but I really enjoyed my food and cocktails. When I dined here it was the lobster season, so I had the bisque and the lobster risotto. The portions of lobster were insanely generous, and the lobster meat was all perfectly cooked. Do yourself a favor and go to the Continental next door. We chose Conti over The Continental because it had a much bigger menu and we were told by a local that they share the same owner and kitchen and he said it was just as good. Sadly, it was not. My husband had beef bourgenion that was quite tough and only lukewarm, I'm surprised he didn't send it back...I would have if it had been my meal. I had the lobster risotto which wasn't awful, just not as hot or flavorful as it should have been. We are fairly decent home cooks and this was a meal that I know we could have done better at home and for a fraction of the price. The cheesecake was delicious and the chocolate mousse was quite good, but too rich to eat by yourself. Service was good, not great. In a snapshot, the ambience is good, the service is poor, the food is average and the prices are too high for the quality of food and experience provided ... especially by local standards. We had been in the city for most of the day and were looking for dinner options that would be a nice way to cap off our visit. There are many restaurants to choose from in the area. Most are quite pricey and did not blow us away with their menu offerings. A review of this establishment's posted menu drew us in because it seemed like a good blend of options and value. Once we stepped in we asked for a table for two. At this point the restaurant was fairly empty but they seemed to make a "show" of it to see if they could accommodate us. Duh ... there were obviously lots of open tables. Naturally, a table was provided after the hostess went and checked with someone else. Felt a bit like we were visiting a used car lot. Eventually (not quickly) a server came around to see what we'd like. Water was not instantly provided so we had to ask for it. That took a while since the staff were all busy entertaining each other rather than attending to the customers. Prospective patrons often waited at the door for someone to finally make their way over. When our meals arrived they were very presentable and tasted quite good. We had to ask for water refills several times because, as before, the staff were more interested in socializing than caring for customers. I could see other patrons were equally frustrated. Would I go here again. No! I believe there are better options nearby, but since this was our only visit, I will never know. It left a bit of a sour taste on our enjoyment of the city, so if you're reading this review, I hope you have better luck. read more

This was our first stop for a meal in Old Quebec. The menu outside looked great so we decided to give it a try, so glad we did! Being that it was our first culinary stop, we were a bit nervous about any language barriers but the staff was great with us and patient with our French, but also fluently spoke English. The lobster salad with avocado tempura was very unique and nicely flavored. I love tempura but had never had avocado that way before. A little pricy at $28CA but worth the experience at least once! The shrimp bisque appetizer special was good as well. We ordered the snow crab risotto with fennel and apple, and the seafood linguini, both excellent. I dont usually review much using Yelp when it comes to restaurants but im inclined to agree with the negative reviews posted on here. While im so glad we managed to get a table reserved for Xmas eve - I felt it was a let down. Nice atmosphere & feel. Charming & typical restaurant - i lived the paintings & warmth of the brick walks & velvety feel booths!! I felt the staff was a little overwhelmed but it was a busy evening. We waited a while at the bar for our table - not a problem - We had a nice corner table by the window so it made up for the wait. The drinks were ok, the food was very plain & nothing extraordinary - we all ordered different dish & i was very frustrated with mine - way overcooked fettuccine & salmon!!! I did not finish & while i made a comment abt it when asked - im a believer in not asking a new dish back as i hate waste & know it'd get trashed. For dessert, I ordered a Tiramisu - my top favorite dessert so I tend to be a huge critic - it was just ok & did not finish. The waitress was kind & polite but forgot to refill our waters most times, took too long to bring our glasses of wine which shld arrive with the entrees & i agree on the "tacky" bread basket with individual butter container like its a Holiday Inn. For the prices you expect & should get much better/higher quality & service. Overall i recommend for a meal & nice ambiance. Just too pricey & not to the level i like. After some rude tourists stole our reservations at another restaurant, we were left scrambling to find somewhere to eat on a busy Saturday night. The streets were crowded, restaurants had long waits, and tourists were sweaty and cranky. To top it all off, I tripped on the cobblestone street and flashed my thong clad behind to those nearby. My mortified husband helped me up and pushed me into the nearest restaurant, the Conti Caffe. He then proceeded to drool for the next hour and a half. Not because he was thinking of how I bared my bum, but instead because the bartender was SMOKIN' HOT. I admit, I drooled a bit too, and thought about whether I would consider something scandalous on this short trip. That was just wishful thinking. She was way out of both of our leagues. Luckily, the food was just about as mouthwatering as the bartender. Pete ordered the Filetto di manzo Rossini o Gorgonzola (Filet Mignon with Gorgonzola) and received it exactly as ordered. I had the sesame crusted seared tuna with a balsamic reduction. Our waiter spoke English, as did many of the other waiters and waitresses, so we didn't do our typical embarrassing butchering of French coupled with confusing gestures. This decreased our stress level a bit, and we didn't feel like we had "stupid American" stamped on each of our foreheads. Aside from the meal, Pete & I both ordered Quebec beer and enjoyed it. What a nice surprise having fusion cuisine. There's plenty of French food in the Old City, but it's nice to have a blend of culinary styles. We started with some delicious red wines by the glass. Apps were fresh bruschetta in November and a quad sampler including - beef carpaccio , salmon tartare, shrimp tempura,& breaded Gouda / Mango chutney- wonderful start to the meal. The spinach salad was delicious with pecans/ berries . The salmon penne pasta was fresh and equally delicious . For the encore- Hazelnut chocolate cake was flavorful and light. NPS = 9 Le Continental was closed so we came here. Owned by the same owners as Le Continental. And the service and food showed that. It is Italian but made by French, so the food is very rich by Italian standards. But you won't find me complaining about that. If you are craving Italian food in Quebec City, this is a must-try. The veal tenderloin is one of the best veal dishes I have ever had in my life. The salmon has this sweet potato casserole topping that makes your mouth water. The French onion soup was nothing out of this world, but the lobster bisque was worth ever penny of the 14$ it cost. We were really upset Le Continental was closed because we really wanted our Dover Sole served table side, but we were glad to find this place next door. Excellent, excellent meal. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by an employee at our hotel. We were told told that we would need reservations, but since we dined on a Monday, none were needed. When we arrived we were warmly greeted, our coats were checked, and we were promptly seated. The decor was modern rustic (if there is such a thing), and it blended together nicely. I started with onion soup which came with a large slice of bread topped with melted gruyere cheese. It was fantastic! My girlfriend started with a typical salad which tasted like a typical salad. For my entree I chose the pork tenderloin with maple butter, potatoes, and veggies. The pork tasted good, but it relied too much on the maple butter. If it was served by itself the tenderloin would have been your normal run the mill tenderloin. My girlfriend ordered fettuccini and chicken. I only had a couple of bites, but it was very tasty and very light. Overall, we enjoyed our experience at Conti. The waitstaff was very friendly and accommodating even though we didn't speak French. If we ever find ourselves Quebec again we will certainly come back. read more

This has to have been the worse meal we have ever had in Canada. We started with the Caesar salad which was good but the chef replaced the light and delicate flavor of anchovies with lardons and gave the salad a heavy palette. We also had the bronicco salad. It was described as mini buffo cheese balls halved served in a Parmesan crisp. The cheese had the consistency of rubber balls. But then came the main courses. I had the veal cannoli. You could hardly cut it with a knife and it had been put under a salamander so long that the cheese was burned. Totally inedible. The manager agreed and took it off the bill. My husband had the chicken fettuccine. While the pasta was well prepared (andante) the chicken was so overlooked that my husband said it could have served better as an eraser on the end of a number 2 graphite pencil! They offered us a dessert but we were both so disenchanted at that point that we didn't want to take our chances for the dinner to become even more horrible than it was. So disappointing after dining at both Bello and La Parliamentaire at the National Assembly the day before. I should have known something was up when the bread basket arrived with little plastic butter containers ( as offered on the breakfast bar at a Holiday Inn Express) and not a plate of real butter. How is that acceptable at a high-end restaurant, especially at dinner time. We ordered lobster dishes ( pasta and risotto) and both were bland and unexceptional. This was the most expensive and least pleasing meal I have had in Quebec City. After a long 8-hour trek from Boston, we arrived to Quebec City tired and hungry on Christmas Eve. Located a short 2 minute walk from Hotel Frontenac, Conti Cafe was the spot we selected to celebrate the beginning of the holiday week-end. We were eager for a delicious meal and needed sustenance to see ourselves through the evening Mass to follow at Notre Dame - located also nearby. The restaurant was every bit as wonderful as our concierge suggested. It was a busy night at Conti and we appreciated our table being ready for our arrival. The ambiance was festive with pleasing holiday music, and we enjoyed excellent service and outstanding food. My 3 sons loved their dishes which included Salmon and a variety of pasta dishes. I enjoyed an outstanding preparation of Spaghetti Carbonara which I'm still thinking about with great affection. My husband, who orders soups often, remarked that the Minestrone was the best he'd ever tasted. He shared some with me, and I couldn't agree more. We were tempted to return to Conti again during our visit, but decided with all of Quebec's culinary offerings we shouldn't narrow our focus. Looking back, I wish we'd returned. Sometimes when you find a good thing, you shouldn't fight your intuition. We came in here after walking around the old city. I ordered a small bruschetta with precutto appetizer and my wife had the onion soup. Both were just okay. The preperation of both dishes was quite slow. What really annoyed me about this place was that they charged my wife $7 dollars for a large bottle of sparkling water without making it clear that we were purchasing such a large bottle. I felt like we were ripped off. This was probably the worst restaurant on our trip. I will not return. read more

We went for dinner here our last night in Quebec. As we entered there was a saxophone and guitar players filling the place with music. They duo was going around the restaurant playing music. They were willing to take request. The restaurant was quite busy but we didn't have to wait and were seated immediately. Considering there were 7 of us that was nice. The food was generous in size and overall everything was good. The kids enjoyed their pasta very much. Calamari was very good as well. Service was excellent. The meek may inherit the earth, but they make really crappy waiters. I'm not sure it would have made a huge difference, apparently they had 2 huge parties, but that's something you would know about in advance to prepare for; the management chose to take no action, at the price of us being served dinner at 10:15 after we were seated at 8:30, as well as garnering this, hopefully scathing, review. The unfortunateness started with my partner's lobster bisque. It was objectively disgusting. Too dark, & I could smell it from my seat; way fishy. The waiter overheard my partner's displeasure with the bisque & immediately asked to take it away. Ok, so far, but then he came back to explain that it is the restaurant's policy to still charge for something, even if you don't like it & they take it away, SO for god's sake if you order something, be sure you like it. They did back down on that policy, but only after my partner had to show his ass & the manager came over. ("But I know we have some of the best lobster bisque in the city." Yeah? Thanks for the warning.) Then it took an inordinate amount of time to get our entrees. Possibly attributable to the 2 large parties, but certainly something that ought to be accommodated for. This did give my partner the chance to ask the waiter, "are our entrees coming up soon? Are we being punished for that soup thing?" Overall my experience at Conti was unpleasant.
