We have a house with a relatively large yard with a variety of trees and plants that had grown out of control after a dozen years of no major changes. Our yard had too many mid-size trees, too many unhealthy plants and a chaotic, untended feel to it.
We wanted to simplify things, set up more fruit bearing plants & trees, open up the back and front yards, and re-establish and improve some design lines of the yard that had been disrupted by utility digging in the past. We also wanted to do this over the course of a year since it was a large scale project and managing the budget was a factor.
We first contacted Contemporary Homestead last spring to begin planning, scoping an executing a long term complete overhaul - including getting rid of many old railroad ties used as walls/curbs and replacing them with concrete stones.
Deena and her team put together a design proposal, provided detailed estimated costs and a rough schedule for the work. We're still in the final stages, but my wife and I are thrilled with how it's turned out so far.
We are happy with the both design and the execution of the plan to to improve the yard. Throughout the process Deena was always proactive about communicating and scheduling work, and her team always cleaned up after themselves after completing each phase. The cost of each phase was always discussed up front and any adjustments were agreed upon prior to doing the work - occasionally the schedule needed to be adjusted day to day, due to weather and other factors and they always reached out to us to let us know what was going on. Additionally, I often consulted with Deena about work that was performed by other service companies (arborists, fences) and she was very helpful with guidance and discussing options, costs, etc.
I'd highly recommend using Contemporary Homestead if you want to work with people who love their jobs and are great at what they do. read more
