HVAC and related technicians are best when you don't need them! But like death and taxes, you absolutely need them, and that too 5 minutes ago, when these system need repair at your home. Then of course, you shudder at the cost of using such companies and the work they will do. Luckily, if you live in the area that Consumer's Choice services, you can rest assured that you are in good hands. I have been using Consumer's Choice for over 5 years now. They have serviced my HVAC system in the past, and more recently, replaced the water heater too. These guys are 5 star technicians and know what they are doing. AMAZING!!!! I have an older heating unit and it stopped working . F H Furr topped me 24K to rel place the unit. When I refused it dropped to 14K. I don't trust them when they do that. Fou d these earthbound angels that came and found the problem. Guess what - didn't cost me 24K. Not even 14K. A great price and better still a warm home!!! Thank you Brendan and John. I had used these guys originally for one my daughters' place in Rosslyn and they did a good job. I went back to them for my other daughter's place in Rosslyn also and they quoted me $99 (last time was $89.99) and I accepted the price increase they have had. This is the charge which is on their invoice as service fee/diagnostics. The agreement was to go there, diagnose and quote me a price for what it would take to repair the AC. Service person named, Joe visited my daughter's place and called me and told me it would cost almost $6000 to replace the entire system. I asked several questions and he nicely answered the technical questions. After he left, I called my daughter and she told me she was charged almost $160! I was shocked since Joe and I had an agreement and he never mentioned anything during our 30 min call while he was there. Called Joe back and he stated, there was a $60 charge for the trouble shooting! I asked him why wasn't that mentioned when I originally called? no answer. I asked, how can you you diagnose if you do not troubleshoot? By just looking at the AC? he then started playing with words! Being an engineer, you have to troubleshoot so you can diagnose the problem. His last words were " this is how my boss does it"! Well, I am going to change the entire system, but for $60, they lost a loyal customer and several thousand $$ of business! when I told Joe about this, he only could only say, this is how the boss does it! They are good when they are on time and you don't ask any questions, but they are rude and unprofessional when you raise issues or ask questions. First time using them they were solid - came at the scheduled time and performed the service as needed. However, second time using them they were a no-show and claimed that I had never booked an appointment. After rescheduling for a different day, they ended up calling to say they wouldn't be able to meet the service call and needed to postpone. By then, I couldn't wait any longer and needed to find another company to complete the job. read more

Outrageous pricing that will insult your intelligence. Needed a tune up on an Aprilaire humidifier that Consumer's Choice installed 24 months ago. Charged me $69 for a standard Evaporator Panel that costs $15 on Amazon. Quoted me a price of $425 for 30 minutes labor to replace a $50 Solenoid Valve. Quoted me a price of $100 for 5 minutes work to replace a standard 5' vinyl condensate drain line with 2 hose clamps. I'm an executive in the construction trade who knows how much parts and labor cost. I've used these guys for years, but no more. Their pricing model is beyond gouging. I've never felt more insulted. read more

They came a few months ago to program a thermostat (October). Now it's December and the thermostat is not functioning. Their diagnosis is that the thermostat is broken. They are not warrantying the work they did two months ago. Additionally, they wanted $291 to install a new thermostat. This is in addition to the $89 "service call fee" and $75 for their time.... There are many other companies out there - save your time, money, and aggravation and use someone else. read more

Have nothing but great things to say about this company. Their responsiveness is unparalleled and their honesty cannot be matched. I was lucky enough to have their technician Joe come out on a Saturday for a no A/C call. When I spoke with him on the phone, he politely explained that the $99 charge was just for coming to my home and that anything would be additional. Having used them multiple times, that's always been the case and I told him I completely understood. Upon his arrival, he was quickly able to figure out my issue which was that my system was completely out of refrigerant. He even showed me at my outdoor unit while his tools were still connected. Being an engineer myself, even that made sense to me that it was time to replace my HVAC System. Joe offered multiple options from simply adding refrigerant, trying to find and fix the leak or just replacing the system. At no time did I feel pressured into either option, he simply gave me the information and to help me decide what I ultimately wanted to do. I ended up replacing my system due to its age and the type of refrigerant it used. All said and done I paid $174 for the visit and was credited $75 back after the install was completed because Joe just recommended asking. read more

First, it takes a lot for me to leave any type of review anywhere but these guys are the worst! Unless you don't care for money at all, don't waste your time calling them in or getting their service package. After coming out 5 times last year and charging me over $300 (refiling stuff, doing leak searches and other crap) they realized that it was some pin that was closed. They come earlier this year to do my service, a week later it stops working and they are charge me another few hundred bucks because supposedly 2 weeks after my service that said everything is great! i'm low on refrigerant. Good service, but it takes a bit of teeth-pulling to get them to come out in a timely manner and provide estimates. Once on-site, they know what they're doing and can fix most anything. The initial charge for coming out is a flat rate (~$100), so it makes sense to have them check *everything* in the initial call. They will also return 6 months later for a second inspection at ~50% off if you pay for everything in advance. Reasonably priced, but there's a need to be insistent. Did not blow me away with their customer service, but repair work is good quality. read more

I inherited a relatively new HVAC when I bought my place a couple of years ago. The label on the unit said CC installed it so I called them to check it out, clean, etc. I signed up for the service contract and have been satisfied with the work. Recently I had them replace some rubber hoses with braided steel hoses. Very happy with the results. Maybe expensive compared to another company but what price is peace of mind? Unless you don't care about money, stay away from this company, dishonest! I do some research ahead of time, most likely the problem with my AC is just a bad capacitor. First they lure you with the 89 fee, that just get's them to the door, not to actually do anything at all, but they won't tell you that. They find that the capacitor is broken, so they leave the place to go "back to the truck to look up the price". How dumb do you think I am. Just say it, you leave to talk to the boss to figure out how much you can charge me. Then they go forward with replacing the capacitor, and 1.5 seconds later, after you hear the sound of the engine finally going, he pulls out and says my compressor is locked up, 2600 to repair, or 5800 to replace the whole thing. They wanted 400 just to replace the capacitor. So instead I go buy one myself for $12, install it with a screwdriver and basic electrical precautions, and it works. Maybe because I waited longer than 1.5 seconds for the thing to actually start up! They can say what they want about code and root causes and proper whatever, but what a terrible experience. read more

Outstanding service! After another company wanted 1500 to replace my only 5 year old humidifier attached to our HVAC, I called Consumer Choice for a second opinion. They did not show up for an appointment with a 4 hour window and there was no return calls to explain why or reschedule it. Actually I called after waiting for 3 hours to make sure that they were still coming and was told I was the next on the list. They never came. The next day when I called again trying to reschedule, I was hung up after explaining why I called. First time calling this company, the lady who answered the phone was courteous, timely and on point. Asked to get an estimate to replace my HVAC unit she got me in touch with who I believe is the owner, he gave a ball park estimate and he said this is the best he could do without looking at the unit I have in place but he told me it might just be a simple wiring issue so don't look to replace without having a technician look at it. Which was impressive - not a lot of honest people out there who would say this.... Long story short I had called a couple of other places but chose to go with Consumers Choice Heating & Air Conditioning. They showed up on time, identified the issue and it did end up being a simple wire, and contactor that needed to be replaced. They gave me an estimate for a future replacement. I was pleased with the technicians that completed the job. Very pleased with their service. Only reason I am not giving them a 5 star is because it's my first and only experience with but come back with updates. read more
