Let me start out by saying I have very flat feet and a lot of problems with them. My whole life I have spent 1000's on inserts and special shoes that were supposed to help, I gave up. I found an OK shoe and just suffer through it. Recently my wife and I started hiking a LOT. Its now our hobby and I was struggling so I thought about trying to find a good hiking boot to go check out all those great CT trails. We were told about Fred at a festival earlier this year and decided to give him a try. He was professional, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with this problem through. He was patient and understanding. We tried a few, he let me do extensive walking tests to find the right fit. We found one I liked and he helped pick out a high quality insert designed to help folks with problems like mine. Fred took the time to explain the technology behind the shoes and inserts and explained how they worked and gave us a few tips. Now I waited a few weeks to write this review as I wanted to see how I would enjoy the shoes after the purchase as this has bit me in the butt so many times previously. I have to say they are by far the most comfortable thing my horrendous feet have ever had the pleasure of walking in. I am now going 5+ miles a day without issues and only growing stronger. Thank you Fred, you were wonderful and did a great job helping me! We have used them like 10x already and no regrets. Worth every penny. I work for the railroad, and we have very specific kind of work boots that we require. It can be pretty hard as a woman to find boots that check all the boxes for our work requirements, as well as comfortability and durability. It is also pretty important to me to be able to try on the boots before purchasing, which in some cases is nearly impossible (Red Wing apparently won't even stock a mens size 7, which is what my equivalent would be). However, after one call to this place, and I immediately felt like I was in good hands. Not only do they carry a wide variety of styles and uncommon sizes - they let you try them on, and even walk up and down the street to get a real feel for them! First of all, for a business man to be in business this day and age you would think an owner would take any business he can whether you purchased merchandise with them or not. I was there today 2/14 with a pair of boots that he sells that my husband got from his employer to get a patch put on the toes so they don't wear out. The gentleman said he has a policy no purchase no service pretty much were his words. Really!!! We have gone to him in the past when he was located in Thomaston and purchased many items. He wouldn't take our business today, Sir good luck you will need it, I will never recommend this business to anyone and will be sure to pass the word!!! I work full time as an electrician, never had too much luck with boots, always losing the waterproofing quickly, wearing thru them every 6-8 months, i also have some back issues, i had gone in with a pair of carolinas at the time and explained to the gentleman that owns the store that i needed a lighter boot because the carolinas were too heavy, what he explained to me is that my problem was the height of my heel, not the weight, had i gone to some big box store i never would have known that, and i'd be dealing with the same problem now, this man is phenomenal, hes very diligent to make sure what im wearing is good for me, i very much appreciate it, and will be shopping here for a very long time read more

Needed a new pair of work boots recently and was just tired of going to the large chain stores where finding help or knowledgeable employees is just non existent. Found this gem of a store and met the owner who was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly offered great advice. When my boot just didn't fit right in one area, the owner made the adjustments, oiled my new work boots, and spent over 1/2 hour making sure I was happy. When you buy boots there he oils them once a month to keep them waterproof. Here is where to go, if you need shoes. Don't find customer service like this anymore. You won a new customer. Very poor customer service, made a purchase back in May 2020 and needed to have the second pair of boots sent to our address due to not having them in stock. Was told we would have them with 2-3 weeks, which came and went. After leaving a message and no call back, called again and was told that the boots were delivered to the store and that the gentleman would put them out in the mail for delivery. Again no boots, called the store and they were closed for vacation. This has been going on now for a Month and a half. Went to the store again and was again told they just sent UPS them since they forgot to send them out. Called the store to see if there was anything that they would do for this issue and was told No Sorry they are in the mail. read more

My husband is on his feet for long hours and wears through his boots. He has had issues with his feet from work. We saw Fred and got the Steel Blue with steel toe and locking side zipper. My husband said it was comfortable as soon as he put it on and probably won't need to "break" them in like usual. Fred was very knowledgeable and went above and beyond with customer service. Very professional and thorough. We added a protective coating to the front, "tough toe", to help preserve the life of the shoe. My husband can't wait to start wearing the boots tomorrow.
