New Facade (old sign)

This is a replacement for the long-time 12th Avenue Market & Deli. Owners Shaun and Stephanie Johnson are retiring after 18 years of ownership of the 40+ year old business. Fortunately (now, this is complicated), John Moutzouris, who bought Spinelli's Market (Park Hill) from owners Jerry and Mary Ellen Spinelli in 2014, made local chef and sandwich guru, Jake Riederer, and his wife, Cecelia Jones, his partners in Spinelli's. The group then made a deal with the Johnsons to take over their space which reopened December 5, 2023 as the Congress Park Market. Whew! The space is undergoing a massive refurbishment as I write, but the work should be finished shortly. The plan is to maintain the traditions of the 12th Avenue Market, including the contract Post Office counter, with some enhancements. The Post Office is moving to the front of the store and a deli is going into the space in the rear. There will be a full deli department plus fresh produce. Spinelli's has long been noted for their fantastic fresh sandwiches. Five of the most popular will be available here plus five new creations. A wine and beer department is also promised. The 12th Avenue Market was getting a little tired, along with its owners. The space was originally a Piggly Wiggly (a long-defunct supermarket chain) and I'm glad to see it enjoying yet another life as a vibrant neighborhood market. The new owners hope to develop other neighborhood markets like this one around Denver.

Tired of the greed. Raised price on a can of Pepsi. It's high priced to begin with. Not a big deal but won't be back.

We came here for brunch on a Sunday morning, before heading to Coors Field to see an afternoon Rockies game. The market mainly consists of an indoor food court, with indoor and outdoor seating options. The crowd is mostly local. The vibe is casual. For our first visit, we were impressed with the food we got from Izzio Bakery, and the coffee we got from Crema Bodega. I have reviewed these separately.

There are a bunch of different places to check out inside, so everyone can grab exactly what they want and still sit together. Today, I specifically visited Call Your Mother, a Jewish deli, and Izzio Bakery. Atmosphere: Since I went right around the time they opened, the atmosphere was exactly what I needed. It was super laid-back and chill, making it the perfect place to get out of the house for a calm morning. As it gets later into the day and through the weekends, I know it gets very busy, but there is plenty of random seating throughout the hall and even some outdoor spots if you prefer. Parking: Parking is going to be street parking. Make sure you read the signs, but it is usually free. Even when the market is busy, I usually don't have to walk more than a block to get inside. So it is a very convenient location for the RiNo area. Service: The customer service throughout the market is great. At Call Your Mother, the cashier was very sweet, and they even text you when your food is ready. Over at Izzio Bakery, everyone is super kind and helpful while you're looking at their amazing pastry display. Even with a line, you're usually only waiting about 10 to 12 minutes for your items. Food: The food variety here is incredible. I tried the Sun City breakfast bagel sandwich from Call Your Mother and the hot honey was the perfect balance of sweet and spice on a toasted bagel. For a sweet treat, I went to Izzio Bakery for the Dulce de Leche Queen. The pastry case there looks like something out of a movie. The pastry itself was perfectly crisp on the outside with a delicious yellow vanilla cream and cinnamon on the inside. Overall Experience: Overall, I really enjoy coming here and trying new places. It is a fantastic destination for groups or just a solo morning out. Whether you want a savory breakfast bagel sandwich or a beautiful pastry, The Denver Central Market always hits the spot. I'll definitely be back to explore more.
