On the first warm weekend of the year, I stopped by Cones hoping to get a dairy-free ice cream cone. When I first arrived, I poked my head inside and interrupted a very busy ice-creamer behind the counter to make sure I wasn't waiting for something they didn't offer - he said yes, they had dairy-free ice cream and I went back outside to wait in line properly. Even though it seemed to be a relatively short line, I stood outside for probably 15 minutes before getting inside the door, where the wait was just about as long. Once I got to the counter and asked about the dairy-free options, the young woman said they had dairy-free vanilla that they could add any of the "mix-ins" into (at an additional cost, of course). I asked for a small scoop in a cup with walnuts added in. (The machine that does the mixing is quite the contraption - ice cream and walnuts go in and ice cream with pulverized walnuts comes out. Fascinating!) The staff was helpful and friendly but they probably could use more than a couple of people behind the counter, especially on a warm holiday weekend day as summer is approaching. There are outside tables for nice days and inside tables for weather-y days. There were no trash containers outside, though, so I took my trash back to my car, rather than make my way back through the inside and outside lines of people to get to the inside trash container. Napkins are available inside but not outside so grab a handful before heading outside to your table. This 4-star rating is because I think there's potential here for a great ice cream place. However, on this visit, the dairy-free ice cream was just okay, nothing special, and the walnuts had seen better days but were still edible. Until they come up with more dairy-free options, I probably won't go back but if you're not lactose-intolerant like me, there are some yummy sounding flavors of ice cream that you could enjoy, with or without mix-ins. read more

This is very cute and charming brick shop in downtown Canby. They offer various ice cream from Umpqua. You can get scoops, shakes, cakes, and bubble tea. They make fresh waffle cones in house. Prices are decent. My biggest qualm, from the one time I went with my friend and kids, was that we waited outside for over half an hour before we got past the front door. Once inside, it was another 15 minutes. Service was incredibly slow. One worker was soloing the scoops and cashier. The other worker was barely keeping up with making the waffle cones. It was very discouraging since this was supposed to be a quick stop. Solely because of this I am worried how service will be during the peaks times of summer. read more

What a disappointment this spot was. We drove 15min out of our way to this place because we thought it would be this awesome homemade ice cream shop. What we got was a place selling Umpqua ice cream and toppings straight from a jar. The serving area was a mess, toppings spilled into each other, wasn't appetizing. It was also dead, no one was there. Three kids working and it looked like no one cleaned all day. My kid ended up being the only person who ordered ice cream and he couldn't even finish it. Im giving this rating based on potential! I feel like if I were to just base my rating on the ice cream itself I would be at a 3/5 starts. However, the inside and outdoor areas are very cute!! The ice cream options were just ok, the brand of ice cream was just generic you can get at any grocery store. The toppings also lacked anything particularly special. I also think that the toppings were a little light (sure we could have paid for extra but as the ice cream was just generic I would hope for heavier topping load IMO). The staff was friendly and helpful with explaining the process of choosing and blending the toppings. read more

CONES is a delicious little ice cream shop with minimum flavors but very elaborate concoctions. They offer free samples of flavors if you want to try before you buy. We went at 10:25ish pm on a Saturday, and the store was empty. Luckily, that made things easier for us 3, as none of us had been to this place before and were overwhelmed by their menu and topping choices. The employees walked us through the ordering process, and told us their favorites. Although they say they are NOT allergen friendly, they accommodated my peanut allergy well and used the newest ingredients from the back to avoid any cross contamination. First visit.... Last visit. Ordered Marion berry special for $8.25. It was served to me in a cup that was half melted and full of milky ice milk. Absolutely disgusting. Took two bites and tossed it in the garbage outside. J got the blueberry milkshake, said it was a blueberry milkshake. No complaints, no compliments. No idea how or why this place is hyped up. Let me start off by saying... this rating is based on potential! :) We visited Cones a few days after their soft opening, and while there are definitely kinks to work out, I think this place will be a hit in Canby, where it is much needed! Their menu is pretty small, but have a good variety of mix-ins and toppings. The ice cream is Tillamook, so not homemade, but I think the draw here is the mix-ins. They have two mix-in machines that spin all of your goodies in with your ice cream and customize it to your liking. The store itself is really beautiful, painted lipstick pink and with a lovely dahlia panting on the back wall. There's a cute little ice cream truck for the little ones to play with too. Service was really slow today, but again, they're brand new and getting the kinks out. The employees all had a smile and you could tell that they were trying their best. We'll be back in a few weeks when they have everything sorted out. Already looking forward to it! read more

This is a small place with just a couple of tables inside. Normally there is a line forming outside the door so the inside is probably more organized. On the day we went there was a heat wave so the line was just a crowd in the lobby, and it was hard to tell who was next. We can't wait to try more flavor combinations! The vanilla ice cream by itself is absolutely delicious. I loved the waffle cone so much. Can't wait to try a waffle bowl next time but they ran out the day we went. This is a brand new venture in desserts and ice cream based foods. I grabbed a menu item and hubby got a custom concoction! Lovely seating area outside with complimentary colored umbrellas for shade. I couldn't get a photo as customers all over. We got there and in 5 mins there was a long line behind us! As a new business, service was as expected. What a great little place. Cones takes hard ice cream and turns it into soft ice cream with your favorite additives. The place in located in old downtown Canby on N. Holly Street in the old Canby City Hall. They occupy the lid fire truck bays. You can either pick from their favorite combo or make you own concoction. You can go classic (my choice) or nouveau. Prices are reasonable but come hungry and be prepared to burn some calories after. The shop is owned locally and staffed by great friendly people. This summer (2023) the place has been busy almost any warm evening.
