Spencer of Conejo Valley Roofing is an all star! 40 yr old roof needed repairs before solar install. Spencer gave me a price competitive quote (his was the 2nd lowest of 5...and the lowest bid never returned my call back‍) with various options: no hard sell on anything. We needed to replace nearly all the wood trim and he quoted me a competitive price as well. His crew did a repaper (reused as many of the old tiles to keep price low) and it was done in 2-3 days! All nails, broken tiles, old paper liners, and trash picked up, and this should've been an easy 5-star review! But solar company came and broke a few hundred tiles And we were about to have the heavy February rains start the next day. So Spencer sent a crew out from 4-7 PM THAT NIGHT they patched up what they could, then they returned the next morning to complete the work. NO LEAKS!!! Again this should've been the end of a stellar review, but I made a mistake with the payment. Spencer was extremely gracious while we sorted out the bank issues. So you can check out other roofing companies to satisfy your OCD itch, but Conejo Valley Roofing is on my "Hey, do you know of a roofer?" referral list. Thanks Spencer!!! read more

These guys are the best!! The wind had blown a vent cover off one of my roof vents. I debated climbing on the second floor roof that was pretty steep and my wife immediately talked me out of it. I went on my Yelp app and sent out a request to several local roofers. Conejo Valley Roofing was the quickest to respond. They immediately took this small job and told and they could get if fixed right away. The other roofers responded that they were not interested or they needed to come out to give me an estimate. The photographs that I sent to everyone were very explanatory and I felt there was no need for anyone to come out and give me a free estimate. The next morning Conejo Valley Roofing as promised showed up at my house and within five minutes put the vent cover back on the vent. The other roofers i contacted could learn a lesson about proper customer service and how not to over complicate a simple request from a prospective customer. I wouldn't hire Rick to hang a picture on the wall. And I didn't hire him. My landlord did. Day before the scheduled work, his demo crew shows up and demands to start working. Landlord calls and says "Absolutely not approved." Rick isn't even on site. The crew calls him. He shows up and takes my husband outside to meet them all and see how sad they are and begs him to plead with the landlord to start the work early, KNOWING we have nowhere to take our son away from the chaos, as the AirBnB rental starts the next day. The landlord denies to start early again. So they are sent home and the retaliation begins... Upon arrival the next day, we serve drinks and breakfast to the crew and are met with hostility and refusal to delay start until 7am. They start at 6:30am, waking our son and violating the terms of the contract's time constraints. Right before we were going to head out to the AirBnB, I hear a loud CLANG! I look out the window and a pickax head has slammed onto the front doorstep, after falling off the handle. I was about to walk my son out of that door!!! Rick never even showed up to relieve his crew for lunch. So the dozen donuts, 6 croissants, waters and gatorade that we set out for breakfast, was the sole food provided during their workday. No measures were taken to remove or protect our property in or around the area. When I returned to the home, the crew was leaving and said that a "little dust" was knocked into the garage. They didn't have time to clean it, but just let Rick know.The "little dust" was an explosion of debris, nails, wood chips and shards so profusely scattered about as to require the hire of a professional cleanup crew. They left over 100 nails in our yard; a dozen in my child's playhouse alone, 6 under a patio rug. From that point, our landlord FIRED Rick and is now seeking a new contractor ASAP, as we have no roof. But, hey, if anyone needs some used roofing nails, I have a jar full of them. read more

I reviewed Rick earlier, but this is a response to the the snarky and mean-spirited review by Ali C. above: Ali C. apparently lives in Chicago. He must have posted his rude review thinking he was reviewing a roofer in Chicago. Rick is completely reliable, professional, and a pleasure to deal with. I've referred him to everyone who asks me for a lead for a roofer. I only do this when there is someone I can count on 100% to be excellent because I don't want to put my reputation on the line with friends or neighbors. There are very few people I refer to because of this concern. I'm surprised to see that Heather L. didn't get a call back. Rick is very old school tech-wise and does not text or email. He checks his voice mail frequently, however. So make sure you call him to try to reach him. Re. arriving on time: Rick has been to our house when our roof was replaced, but also several other times for a skylight and sola-tubes. So he has been to our house about 10 times for estimates and work done. Every single time Rick was waiting outside a few minutes early so he could come to the door exactly on time. I found Rick through my contractor who is honest and has extremely high standards for all work he supervises or just refers out. He has known Rick for many years and is involved in many of the jobs Rick has done. He would know if there were any shoddy work, poor work habits, etc. He obviously has much more experience with Rick than i do, all of it very positive. I hope that if you live in So. Cal. and need a roof repair, a new roof, or skylight, etc., that you won't be discouraged by at least one negative review that does not seem legitimate. read more

I called during the last heavy rain to see about getting some emergency roof repair for a leak. He told me he was overwhelmed with calls and asked that I hang up and text him a picture of the damage and he'd get right back to me. I did just that and no response. Understandable, it must have been a crazy busy time. So I texted him an hour or so later. Nothing. I texted again four days later and still not even the courtesy of a response. This wasn't a blind date that didn't work out, this is a business. I don't usually like to leave a one star rating when the work wasn't done, but I followed his exact request for how to contact him and he had promised that he'd call right back but apparently decided he had more business than he needed. Spencer, the owner, came and gave me a quote for my patio roof replacement and structural enhancement and roof tuneup right after his inspection. Then he followed up with a written quote. He's on time and courteous. His quote wasn't the lowest that I received but the other roofer's quote didn't include fixing and strengthening the structure of the patio as the other roofer wasn't comfortable of doing structural work so I went with Spencer as he seemed much more knowledgeable and confident of his job. Once I signed the contract, he did his best to meet my schedule. I really appreciate his prompt response and came out to fix the roof before the heavy rains came. His crew members were polite and respectful. They helped me move my backyard furnitures and cleaned up afterwards. Spencer would come and check on the progress and make sure things were done correctly as discussed. He noticed his crew didn't leave the extra edge space as discussed. He did instructed his crew in the morning and they probably just forgot. When he noticed the mistake and we discussed about it. I was a little hesitant on insisting they redo that last section as they were almost done with everything. Spencer simply instructed his crew on redoing that whole section. Rick was great! I was stuck thanksgiving weekend for broken tiles. He was open, available, and very helpful.

I found a wet spot on my ceiling in the master bedroom and with a big storm in the forecast I knew it had to be fixed right away. I called the roofers my friends recommended but they were all too busy so I googled roofers in Thousand Oaks and found Conejo Valley Roofing with some good reviews and called them at 7:30 am. I spoke with Rick who said he was in the area and could stop by later that morning which he did. He told me what needed to be done, gave me a price, and said they could do the work the next day. The next morning the guys were on the job. They laid new paper on that side of the roof, replaced broken tiles, and sealed around all of the exhaust vents taking the better part of the day to do it. I called Rick because we were looking for someone who is able to repair some shingles that were damaged on a manufactured home. The supplies were already provided. We just needed someone to do the work. I called and spoke to him about the job and he said that he was booked up till next week, but he would give me a call Monday morning. I never received a phone call or email telling me that he is all booked up and wouldn't be able to do the job. I called him to ask if he would be available anytime soon and he said no. He also couldn't recommend someone for the job. I am not happy with his customer service. It sucks. read more
