Came here after visiting Old Sturbridge Village and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with interesting designs and decorations. It already gives a great first impression. Service is quick and the restaurant is very clean. The chips and salsa are the usual for what you expect with warm chips and refreshing salsa. The Pollo Al Pastor is a good size with amazing pineapple pico de gallo and nicely marinated chicken. You get only three tortillas so you mostly eat the dish with fork and knife after making tacos. read more

(Richard Thompson) No doubt, our always perceptive Yelpers have figured out the link between Condesa and the lyrics - Condesa = Contessa in Spanish. Condesa has four locations in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The Sturbridge location is on the extreme left side of a big shopping plaza -look for the Shaw's Market and Ocean State Job Lot. The first thing you'll notice when you walk inside is the Día de (los) Muertos (Day of the Dead) artwork pretty much everywhere on the walls. They have two indoor dining rooms and a covered outdoors dining area, where we had our lunch on a beautiful summer day. Our server Moises was polite and friendly and started us off with a big portion of complimentary ships and salsa. The chips were fresh and still warm and the mildly spiced salsa was excellent. Our lunch was a TACO SALAD ($14) described on the menu as "Grilled chicken, mixed greens, fire roasted corn, Pico de Gallo, cilantro vinaigrette, queso fresco, and tortilla strips". It was served in one of those ubiquitous fried tortilla shells which I would have declined had I known it. I passed on the vinaigrette in favor of that great salsa for my dressing, and declined the queso, and tortilla strips. The grilled chicken was absolutely fantastic. It was pounded so thin, it had ended up being about the same size as the bowl it was served in. And whatever they used to season it was wonderful! Under that blanket of chicken were fresh greens, and a few sprinkles of corn and Pico. Adding their salsa as a dressing made it a winner of a meal. My wife ordered their CHICKEN QUESADILLA ($14). The four big wedges had a generous portion of grilled chicken and cheese, topped with sour cream, queso fresco, and Pico de Gallo. I sampled a forkful and loved the flavor and noticed a pretty generous layer of cheese in with the chicken. My club soda with two lemon wedges was $3. Service from Moises was OK, he was super pleasant when we interacted with us and when we asked for a water and salsa refill. All in all, our $33 after tax-before tip lunch was perfectly fine. read more

Was in the area with the hubby as he was in town for a work event for the week and we decided to try it out. Despite the location and in a Strip mall this place had a really good vibe & atmosphere, Service was great, Manager was super welcoming, friendly and a constant presence the whole night (In a good way) Food was great, options were plenty, Portions were great. Drinks were great. The Fajitas were fresh, the rice was delish & the Garlic shrimp was super flavorful, will definitely visit again when back in the area! Worth a stop in! read more

Excellent find after our visit to Old Sturbridge Village. Food was absolutely delicious. I had the shrimp tacos with tamarind tequila sauce. Plenty of shrimp and delicious food. Although we came around 3 pm and place was almost empty we got great service from Miguel. Place is worth a visit and next time I'm in the area would like to try other things. read more

Visually this restaurant is very fun and festive with quirky dio de Los muertos art. Very spacious. And there's bar seating. So walking in there's definitely a wow-factor. Service was nice, helpful, and consistent without being overbearing. The food.. was mediocre. It seems like they were trying to elevate dishes with unnecessary ingredients, where it may have been trying to disguise taste. Tamales were dry and had little filling. Red rice was bland. Enchiladas were coated in a strange green sauce that was too pungent.. the only thing we really enjoyed were the chips, salsa & guac. Pricing was about $30 each with tip. read more

I planned a surprise birthday celebration for my husband. We were 11in attendance. We were placed in a private space away from the main dining area. Moises was our waiter. He did is an excellent waiter! We ordered guacamole,Pepinos and tamales for appetizers! All were delicious! My favorite is the guacamole. Everyone ordered off the menu, Veggie Quesadillas, Steak Fajitas,Carnitas Taco,Enchiladas,Chori Pollo,CarneAsada, Arroz Con Pollo. Everything was delicious and cooked to perfection. For dessert Yummy creamy Flan and Tres Leches. We supplied a birthday cake and candles. To my surprise the staff came out singing and a Mexican sombrero was placed on my husband's head! I was meeting a friend for lunch. He lives in CT, I live in MA, we love Mexican food, and Condesa was halfway for us. We met there at 12:30pm on a Wednesday. There were 2 people ahead of us waiting for a table - I don't know how long they'd been waiting, but there was nobody there to seat anyone. My friend and I waited 5-7 minutes before someone came out, seated the other people, and then seated us. This was right in the middle of lunchtime, and nobody was at the front desk (there was a sign there, asking customers to wait to be seated). There were maybe 3 other tables with customers. I wanted chicken enchiladas, and the only item on the menu with chicken enchiladas had a mole sauce, which I don't love. I ordered it with the mole sauce on the side. My friend asked if his 3 enchiladas could be one chicken, one beef, one cheese, and he was told they could not do that. So he ordered the same meal I ordered, with the mole sauce on the side. Our meals arrived, enchiladas on one plate, rice & beans on another plate, and the mole sauce on the side. After our first bites, we both commented that the food wasn't even warm. I wouldn't say it was cold, but more tepid. We were going to just deal with it, but we couldn't. When the manager stopped by, we told him the food wasn't warm. This applied to both the enchiladas and the rice & beans. He apologized, took all our plates, and returned a few minutes later with hot food. He said that the chef had told him the enchiladas were not hot because the sauce was on the side, and it's the sauce that makes them hot. Fine. But that doesn't explain the less-than-warm rice & beans. Oh - and he hadn't kept track of which plates belonged to whom. My friend saw there was some salsa on his plates, so knew those were his... but we shouldn't have had to figure that out. The food was below average. Kind of blah. I ate a few bites because I was hungry, but that was it. I left most of the food there. My friend didn't care for his food either. The manager was very nice and our server was very sweet and efficient. Other than that, the entire experience was a disappointment. We would absolutely not return, nor would we recommend Condesa. read more

Wow talk about 180 degree turn a round for the worse. The salsa used to be decent. Today it is either bottled or canned. The guacamole is also store bought (chunky avocado) with a whipped consistency and zero flavor. The menu changed; losing many tasty dishes. We ordered fried fish tacos that were so small; McDonalds snack wraps would tower over these fish nuggets (see photos). Overall, the experience was underwhelming and would certainly discourage us from ever returning. You can do so much better going to Mexicali. read more

Stumbled upon Condesa as we were near Hartford one day. Let me start of by saying this place is huge, tons of seating everywhere and lot of decor on the walls ect, definitely gives off the Mexican vibes which I like. They start you off with chips and salsa which I repeat should be normalized. Chips were a little thicker almost the size of a Dorito, salsa was delicious, lots of flavor and a good starter. My wife started off with the tortilla soup which I also helped her with, very good. Had small pieces of cheese that went with the soup and was topped with chips, definitely a go to. For my entree I went with the Barbacoa tacos. Also I read from other Yelp review they had a homemade Habanero sauce which they did, let me tell you it had a good kick and excellent flavor, I even took the rest of it home since it was that good. My tacos were good size, slightly fatty pieces from the barbacoa but well seasoned. Could have used some fresh cilantro and maybe a lime to spruce it up. That was my wife's complaint with her pork carnitas as well, she still enjoyed them. Service was good, overall we would return! read more

My MIL loves everything Mexican. Food, decor, everything. So I decided to take her to Condesa for lunch. The restaurant is very deceiving from the outside. It's in a strip mall way at the end and looks small from the outside. But it's very large when you come in, and they have a nice outdoor seating area under a roof so you don't get baked by the sun. The decor is not your typical Mexican restaurant decor with Talavera. It's modern with neon lighting, concrete and metal and Day of the Dead themed, which wasn't appreciated by my MIL. The host and hostess were very nice. The chips and salsa arrived first. The chips were warm and the salsa was thick. It was very good, I am celiac, so I asked if the chips were gluten-free, and was assured that they were. My MIL loves her strawberry margarita so she ordered one. It did t come in a traditional margarita glass and she was disappointed. She said the margarita was OK. Too much ice. My MIL had the Cameron's Al Ajilo. She said it was good. Not great. I had the Sopes with chicken and steak. They were different. Good but a little boring. I added some of the salsa from the chips and it was a little better. I wouldn't order it again. The cornmeal flatbreads were thick and heavy. They overpowered the rest of the toppings. For dessert, my ML had churros which came with blueberry ice cream and dipping sides. She said it was very good. I ordered the flan as it was gluten-free. Was a big slice. Very creamy and delicious. If you're in the storage area and want to try something different, Condessa is good. OK so I'm gonna say what we were all thinking- this area desperately needed a new restaurant and watering hole ! So for that, we will gladly welcome Condesa and couldn't wait to get in there to try it after seeing the redevelopment of the old space all summer long. Such a vibrant and open space with wonderfully curated decor for with walls perfect for group photos or selfies and hand blown glass chandeliers made of hearts! Lovely and definitely not the boring traditional Mexican restaurant design so kudos for that ! Say at the bar and gladly so because Alicia is probably the bartender that not o let this establishment ordered - but the town of Sturbridge- holy GOD she made us the most INCREDIBLE margaritas - even for me who can't have anything has it is on the menu and asks for extra this or none of that - she was spot on each time and even suggested different kinds of tequila I honestly would never have tried if she hadn't. I then found out she's a CERTIFIED tequila sommelier ! THIS IS THE SPOT for a marg people. Ask for her !!! I'm telling ya. All the dehydrated fruit and lighting of the bar area (plus tvs!) added to the amazing ambiance. It was hard to pick a a dish and I had my eyes set on several of their homemade specialties ( I'm gonna tell you now - they have one with chipotle seasoned mashed potatoes?? What?! Amazing - go there and find it on the menu yourself!) but I sent with a taco salad just to get my feet wet my partner had birria tacos and we both shared some rice and refrained black beans that seriously had me singing they were so good. Great taco salad - the sauce on my chicken was so incredibly good I could taste fresh pineapple and tamarind in it. A welcomed surprise. The birria was also delectable- I mean this may be one of the best things to order at a Mexican place. Chips are amazing and salsa was smoky and deep with flavor. I wish I had a bigger stomach but I still ordered churros with ZERO regrets - my goodness they put it together with raspberry/strawberry ice cream and it was the PERFECT sweet treat to end dinner. Came in for late lunch while on the road and were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance and food in this Mexican restaurant hidden at the end of a strip mall. We didn't order drinks but the drink menu looked great. We were surprised with how many other diners were there at 3pm on a Thursday afternoon.
