My overall experience was 5 stars. If I were to rate the food individually, it would be 4 stars, but because the experience was so great, I don't want to take anything away from the overall experience you can have here! I was greeted and seated immediately. I went with my two-year-old daughter, and the waitresses were very accommodating. They asked if I wanted a highchair, which I did not need because she likes to sit with me. However, they also offered a secondary option of a little booster seat that goes on top of the booth, which she enjoyed. When bringing out the complimentary tortilla chips and salsa, they made sure to bring me a mild option (just red sauce) and a separate salsa with all the fixings (more spicy). I had a strawberry margarita, and although it wasn't the best strawberry margarita I've ever had, it was still tasty and enjoyable. For children under 12, the kids' meals are only $6.50. They all come with rice and beans, which I thought was a great value. My daughter got one of the kids' meals, the chicken fingers she didn't seem to enjoy the chicken, but I tasted them myself, and they tasted more along the lines of chicken nuggets which is okay . I thought they were pretty decent, but not what I expected! I ordered the bacon shrimp tacos, which in my eyes were five star. I really enjoyed the combination of flavors with the garlic shrimp and the side cilantro sauce. They also come with rice and beans on the side. I will always recommend and come back. The second we sat down, chips & salsa were brought out to the table. And the chip refills kept coming throughout the meal. Our waitress was great, for the most part. She remembered everyone's orders (without writing anything down) except my daughter's (ordered a cheese quesadilla & got grilled cheese). I didn't say anything because it was a 50/50 of her eating it anyway. We got the baby chimichangas for an app & they were pretty good! My husband enjoyed his enchilada meal and I loved my crispy chicken salad. The avocado on my salad was fresh & abundant & the fresh bacon was a nice addition, too. The portions were large and I left full. There were 7 of us eating and it seems they brought food out as it was made which meant no one's meal got cold. We would rather be served that way anyway. The only complaint was at the end of the meal, we declined dessert & asked for the check but the waitress disappeared. We didn't get the check for a long time, which would have been fine if the table was only adults. But we had two kids who were turning into pumpkins. This is a classic Mexican 'cantina' in Worcester with a big bar and lots of tables. We started with guacamole and queso with chorizo. The guac was made fresh at the table and was very good. The queso was just ok: a little plain. We got a mix of tacos, quesadilla, and fajitas. The pulled pork tacos were good, very full of pork and topped with fresh cabbage and fresh avacado. If you think this is authentic Mexican food ... you should go to the Olive Garden for some 'real Italian food'. My native LA has some of the best Mexican food on the planet ... so I try not to hold other restaurants in MA to the standard I am used to because its simply not fair. I have looked high and low for a great, authentic Mexican taco shop or restaurant in Massachusetts and have found none worth bragging about. This is one restaurant in a chain of Mexican eateries. It is in the old British Beer Company location, which might explain some of the odd decor for a Mexican restaurant. The central bar is the hub and there are booths and tables around that. Bar seating can be hard to find ... and they really pack you in like sardines here at the bar. If you don't mind sitting elbow to elbow with the folks next to you, the bar will work to eat or drink. The crowd here varies from bachelorette parties to college kids. Pasty middle-aged couples eat nachos and tacos while banging down Margaritas or Bud Light, although they do have quite a mixed drink list and a few craft beer drafts on tap. I'd caution that this is not a family restaurant. Its a bar crowd throughout and the clientele overall is, let's just say, a little on the 'hood' side. You would need 2 hands count the patrons with neck tattoos on a busy night. The food here is okay. Nothing special ... but portions are big and you certainly don't leave hungry. This last time, I skipped the traditional 'sampler platters' of tacos or enchiladas for what I was told was a traditional home-style dish of chicken in a cream sauce. Holy shit was this an accurate description. It came out as chunks of chicken and mushrooms in about a gallon of creamy white gavy-like sauce. Talk about a cardiologists' nightmare! There were precious few chicken chunks compared to mushrooms and gallons of cream sauce. It was salty ... but didn't really taste like much. Honestly, if you served me this meal at the Cracker Barrel, I'd have thought it was Southern Cooking. I never had any Mexican food like this. My girlfriend's tacos were average. Somewhere between the food you'd get at a national chain restaurant and a bowling ally. Nothing at all seemed to have any spice and it was layered together in a very American style. In LA (and Mexico) everything is combined in a really great way vs. layered ... meat, cheese, sour cream, guac, etc. We like the atmosphere in here ... although the music is always so loud, you can barely converse. It's fun to sit at the bar and even the booths are nice. I don't get a 'Mexican' vibe to the decor but it is fun and colorful. Overall, we'll come back but maybe less for the food and more for the drinks and atmosphere. read more

Me and my mother went to eat here a few days ago. We got seated and no server greeted us in the span of 10-15 minutes. The restaurant wasn't busy either there were about 4 other seats in the place occupied. This would be a different story if it was actually busy, we understand how the restaurant business works and are always patient with our servers. The one and only server we saw tending to the other tables was then seen another 5 minutes later across the restaurant in clear view of me and my moms table shoving food down their throat and still haven't even greeted us nor asked our drink order...and it's been 20 minutes. That was our final straw after seeing that...we ended going a few places down to wonder bar where the service was 10/10 amazing and was definitely a place that was deserving of our money and time. read more

Drinks, good. Food, great. Tableside guacamole, FANTASTIC. BLARING MUSIC, the ceiling is high set within this establishment so the noise is already LOUDLY echoed. I love the Spanish music playing, great vibes...leaving with a pounding headache due to the deafening VOLUME of the music makes me never want to come back. Ugh. So disappointing. That is reflective in the one star, yes...it's that bad. Forgot to add that the waitress kept needing us to repeat ourselves when ordering. The irony. Mexicali's has the kind of service where the manager offered me a coupon to try again after my less than ideal experience the first time I ordered. I couldn't use the coupon but decided to give it another try anyway. We are DESPERATE for some HALFWAY DECENT Mexican food around here. We ordered via seamless and ordered nachos, the southwest quesadilla w/o chicken, queso, the veggie bowl, and ranchero avocado salad. The nachos were MUCH BETTER this time. There were beans, tomatoes, melted cheese with sour cream, guac, and salsa on the side that we poured all over them. They were pretty good. The quesadilla was also very good. There was a ton of stuff in those bad boys: peppers, corn, black beans, cheese with a nice chipotle flavor. The queso, as last time, was very good My salad unfortunately was not as good. This is not a food rating. We came to celebrate after a competition and the vibe was just amazing. There were 3 sections. We were by the bar. A graduation party was upstairs and people were dining on their other section behind us. When we starting cheering for our friends who just arrived the other sections all joined in. And when the graduation party started cheering. We all joined in. The management and staff were all so supportive. No nasty comments even though we were really causing a ruckus. Great times. First time going to the Worcester Mexicali Grill. Will not return! 1 of our meals was taken away immediately by the waitress with the explanation that it was not what was ordered. Then a long black hair was found in the melted cheese of a different dish. Dish reordered, 20 minutes later 2nd dish arrived and a black hair was is the second dish. No need to order a 3rd dish. The waitress offered to take 15% off the Mexicali Stirfry with a side of hair meal for our troubles...we insisted the meal be removed and it actually took 2 conversations with the manager to have the meal removed from our bill. Service here was great! Our server was so attentive and came by a few times to make sure we are all set and happy with the food. They do have some sort of barrier in between the booths but you are placed next to other customers, that being said the seats are so huge there was at least a two feet between me and the other person behind me who was also behind the barrier. Mexicali burrito: This was huge and so tasty! It was filled with rice, carnitas, and beans. It also had some lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and guac on the side! I had enough for two meals and was stuffed after eating half. Enchiladas Blancas: Comes with two enchiladas that are covered in a white cheese sauce. If you love cheese you need to try this! It tastes like they melted straight cheese on top! This item also comes with brown beans, lettuce, tomato, and rice on the side. Fried Ice Cream: Deep fried and so crispy on the outside the bowl is also very crispy. There is a LOT of ice cream in this, I would say bigger than my fist! We definitely finished it all because it was delicious but it was pretty big. The ice cream inside was not melted at all and tasted like flavored ice cream. The ice cream was coated in chocolate and caramel syrup with whip cream. It almost tasted like a frozen churro 100% recommend this!! read more

After the couple times I've been there, their food has always been consistent and has hit to spot. To insult such good pork is criminal. I got a burrito bowl. I appreciate the beans weren't just refried and slopped in there, but black beans, and the chicken was great. The food was good but I was disappointed when our server Barbarah charged us $2.50 for two little things of side mayos! My kids ordered the chicken tenders and it came with fries. They wanted mayos instead. I asked if we could have some may, Barbarah said sure but didn't let us know it'll be extra charge. Who charges for little mayo? The salsa was so fresh and tasty, not too spicy, just right. The chips tasted fresh also. The chicken nachos were great, again fresh and tasty and plentiful! I order the Pork Verde to try something different. It was awesome with some green sauce and the rice taste fresh and cooked perfectly. We had a Chimichanga, Shrimp burrito, Pulled pork sandwich and quesedillas. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted like it was a 5 Star restaurant. WE can't wait to go back. read more

The place has a nice vibe with traditional Mexican music. I was quickly attended too and served when sitting. I didn't have to wait long for my food at all and it's was good. Never again. Ordered takeout since they advertise a curbside option due to the current health crisis. Upon arriving, I called the restaurant (as instructed) repeatedly but the phone was unattended. Many calls later when someone finally answered, she yelled, "It's ready!" and abruptly hung up. I waited in my car, but no one came. Attempted to call and yet again, no answer. Against my better judgement, I went inside where I proceeded to wait with absolutely no acknowledgement from staff. When someone finally helped, I expressed my frustration at needing to come inside, which completely defeats the purpose of offering curbside. He simply expressed that the kitchen was backed up which was kind of an odd excuse given I was told my order was ready. I became angry that they simply weren't taking precautions seriously. I was more than happy to wait in my car if the order was to be delayed, but due to terrible communication, customers (I was not the only one) were forced to go inside. This isn't just about being disorganized. We want to support small businesses struggling right now, but want to do so safely. Upon returning home, we discovered that 2/3 orders were incorrect and all meals were ice cold. Tried to contact the restaurant via phone and email but still haven't received a response nearly a week later. After years of enjoying Mexicali, I'm sad to say we won't be back. read more

They're all basically decorated the same; great atmosphere, but my family and friends only like like the site in Worcester. We've never had a bad meal here (only at the other Mexicali restaurants). Big news!! Mexicali has Taco Tuesday. Buy a drink (alcohol or beer) and gets tacos for $1.00 each. You can choose from chicken, pork, beef, Barbacoa or chorizo. We just tried it for the first tome and it was delish! Seven tacos, one margarita, chips and salsa for $22.00!! Try it, you won't regret it. UPDATE: the wife and I stopped in on Tuesday and ordered some drinks and tacos. I ordered 2 vodka & cranberries and my wife got a couple margaritas. When I got the bill I was charged an extra $3.50 for Cranberry juice. I asked our server why I was being charged for cranberry juice when I ordered mixed drinks? She said the cranberry juice was extra. Not sure what planet I was on but this really confused the heck out of me. She spoke to the manager and had the charge removed. Their guacamole is amazing and customizable depending on what you may or may not like in it, the margaritas are really good and everyone there is always very nice! I was really excited to try this place, but was sadly disappointed. I had walked in on a weekday when they had just opened at 11. I had ordered their lunch special and a side of queso to share with a friend. First off the queso was a total disappointment, instead of the thick, creamy dip I'm use to getting, we had received a runny version. It's seriously not as appetizing...I ordered the combo lunch special to be able to try two of the typical Spanish foods I was craving which were Barbacoa enchilada and the beef chimichanga which were decent. Honestly, I could have bought frozen ones from the market and it probably would have been comparable. The service was also mediocre. I purchased a restaurant.com membership in which I pay a monthly fee on. I went to Mexicali for the purpose of using the $10 off $40. After our waiter Oscar left to process and ask a manager for help twice-he never processed the 10 dollar offer and changed our credit card the full amount. I believe it is illegal to participate in restaurants.com in which they are collecting reoccurring membership fees and not honoring the service patrons are paying for. I obviously will report this to restaurants.com as violating the membership. read more
