    Quesadilla
    Stuart O.

This is a classic Mexican 'cantina' in Worcester with a big bar and lots of tables. We started with guacamole and queso with chorizo. The guac was made fresh at the table and was very good. The queso was just ok: a little plain. We got a mix of tacos, quesadilla, and fajitas. The pulled pork tacos were good, very full of pork and topped with fresh cabbage and fresh avacado. The quesadilla was standard. Everything came with rice and beans. Overall solid, but nothing special.

If you think this is authentic Mexican food ... you should go to the Olive Garden for some 'real Italian food'. My native LA has some of the best Mexican food on the planet ... so I try not to hold other restaurants in MA to the standard I am used to because its simply not fair. I have looked high and low for a great, authentic Mexican taco shop or restaurant in Massachusetts and have found none worth bragging about. This is one restaurant in a chain of Mexican eateries. It is in the old British Beer Company location, which might explain some of the odd decor for a Mexican restaurant. The central bar is the hub and there are booths and tables around that. Bar seating can be hard to find ... and they really pack you in like sardines here at the bar. If you don't mind sitting elbow to elbow with the folks next to you, the bar will work to eat or drink. The crowd here varies from bachelorette parties to college kids. Pasty middle-aged couples eat nachos and tacos while banging down Margaritas or Bud Light, although they do have quite a mixed drink list and a few craft beer drafts on tap. I'd caution that this is not a family restaurant. Its a bar crowd throughout and the clientele overall is, let's just say, a little on the 'hood' side. You would need 2 hands count the patrons with neck tattoos on a busy night. The food here is okay. Nothing special ... but portions are big and you certainly don't leave hungry. This last time, I skipped the traditional 'sampler platters' of tacos or enchiladas for what I was told was a traditional home-style dish of chicken in a cream sauce. Holy shit was this an accurate description. It came out as chunks of chicken and mushrooms in about a gallon of creamy white gavy-like sauce. Talk about a cardiologists' nightmare! There were precious few chicken chunks compared to mushrooms and gallons of cream sauce. It was salty ... but didn't really taste like much. Honestly, if you served me this meal at the Cracker Barrel, I'd have thought it was Southern Cooking. I never had any Mexican food like this. My girlfriend's tacos were average. Somewhere between the food you'd get at a national chain restaurant and a bowling ally. Nothing at all seemed to have any spice and it was layered together in a very American style. In LA (and Mexico) everything is combined in a really great way vs. layered ... meat, cheese, sour cream, guac, etc. We like the atmosphere in here ... although the music is always so loud, you can barely converse. It's fun to sit at the bar and even the booths are nice. I don't get a 'Mexican' vibe to the decor but it is fun and colorful. Overall, we'll come back but maybe less for the food and more for the drinks and atmosphere.

Drinks, good. Food, great. Tableside guacamole, FANTASTIC. BLARING MUSIC, the ceiling is high set within this establishment so the noise is already LOUDLY echoed. I love the Spanish music playing, great vibes...leaving with a pounding headache due to the deafening VOLUME of the music makes me never want to come back. Ugh. So disappointing. That is reflective in the one star, yes...it's that bad. Forgot to add that the waitress kept needing us to repeat ourselves when ordering. The irony. Though, I would be surprised if you told me that none of the staff had legitimate hearing problems working in such a deafening facility.

A cute location with decent food. It is a friendly, fun ambiance if you are looking for place in the greater Worcester area and want some mimosas or pina coladas. The food was fairly tasty, but nothing special. If you're looking for a place for a girl's/gal's night out and feeling like some Mexican, you can give this place a try :-)

Mexicali's has the kind of service where the manager offered me a coupon to try again after my less than ideal experience the first time I ordered. I couldn't use the coupon but decided to give it another try anyway. We are DESPERATE for some HALFWAY DECENT Mexican food around here. We ordered via seamless and ordered nachos, the southwest quesadilla w/o chicken, queso, the veggie bowl, and ranchero avocado salad. The nachos were MUCH BETTER this time. There were beans, tomatoes, melted cheese with sour cream, guac, and salsa on the side that we poured all over them. They were pretty good. The quesadilla was also very good. There was a ton of stuff in those bad boys: peppers, corn, black beans, cheese with a nice chipotle flavor. The queso, as last time, was very good My salad unfortunately was not as good. I do appreciate them using romaine instead of like bullshit iceberg but there was no cotija cheese, just a few white cheese shreds. Also, AGAIN, there was no dressing! Sigh.

    Fajita Salad

This is their "fajita salad." It's like if a high school cafeteria tried to make fajitas. Shredded American cheese? Never heard of that in a Mexican entree. Partner's meal was also cold with a piping hot plate (thrown in the microwave.) I have tried giving this place a chance many times and it's just not worth it

Food is great, would definitely recommend the Fiesta Sampler appetizer (probably enough to be considered a meal & at a great price!) The service was great (we had a party of 15+ and they were very kind and patient not to mention everything came out correctly). Overall a great experience and would definitely go back

Brought a couple of friends from out of town due to the gluten free options for my friend and I really wanted a good margarita. The ambiance was great! My house margarita was delicious ( wished it had been served in a margarita glass instead of a regular glass - but it was still good). This is where it stops. The food was terrible, bland, and not authentic mexican. I expected so much more from this place. My enchiladas seemed like they were made from a rotisserie chicken, heated in the microwave, and splashed with some sort of boring sauce with no flavor. I had to ask for refried beans on the side and they were nothing to write home about. Guacamole was blah... Stick with Cancun's in Grafton if you want authentic Mexican. This place was way overpriced also. The kind of meal you don't want to pay for or even eat... Might be good for a margarita, but I'd even be weary if wasting my $$ on apps. Our guac and chips were nothing special. I make better guac at home. Moe's has better chips...

They also have happy hour specials (4pm to7pm) and Taco Tuesday ($20 AYCE in a 60 minute time frame). The place has a modern dining atmosphere with tables & booth seating and seating up at tte full service bar with flatscreen TV. The background music is very loud. I stopped by Mexitown for a late evening dinner, just after 9pm when on-street parking becomes free. The place wasn't too busy on a Thursday night and I was able to seat myself at an open table. There are QR codes at each table to scan for menu. The server brought out a glass of ice water and I placed my order for the Tacos (Chicken) Al Pastor ($20 plus tax) with rice & beans, which was served in 10 minutes. The 3 soft shell corn tortillas were filled with tender grilled marinated strips of pastor chicken & diced pinapple, pico de gallo & sour cream on the side. The Mexican rice was very soft with traces of peas and green beans. The beans had a salty flavor. After I was done, I requested the check which was $21.40 with tax and before tip. Overall, the tacos were pretty good tasting, but also having lettuce & cheese on the tacos would've been great. If I was hungry, I would've ordered the churros rellenos for dessert. The service here was adequate with one server taking care of three tables. I would give this place another visit to try out other food on the menu like cerviche, enchiladas, and fajitas.

I know that avocado is expensive, but the guacamole was $18.95 and took almost 45 minutes. There were 8 people in the entire place. Ended up going to ruby doos across the street. 15/10 and half the price.

I ordered the steak and chicken combo, and I'm pretty sure they didn't bring it out on a plate--they brought it out on a tectonic plate. The sizzle was so loud I had to use hand signals to communicate with my date for the first three minutes. I felt like a celebrity entering a press conference, except instead of camera flashes, I was being blinded by delicious, onion-scented steam. The fajitas are phenomenal. The meat was so tender I'm convinced the chef sings it lullabies before it hits the grill. The Margarita Situation Then, let's talk about the Margaritas. I don't know what kind of structural engineering goes into these things, but they absolutely rock. Size: Somewhere between "Large" and "Fishbowl." Potency: One sip and I forgot my middle name; two sips and I was ready to audition for a Mariachi band. Taste: Perfectly balanced. Not that neon-green syrup you find at the grocery store, but the real deal. The Verdict By the time I finished, I was 40% salsa and 60% fajita by body weight. If you see someone rolling down Lincoln Street like a human burrito later tonight, mind your business--that's just me living my best life. Pro Tip: Wear your "eating pants" (the ones with the elastic waistband). You're going to need the extra room.
