We decided to visit El Patron Mexican restaurant while running an errand in Worcester. We went for lunch on MLK day. There were a few people being served. Their decor was good and they have tv playing in the background and music playing out loud. Our waiter was very nice and very quick. We ordered a Chicken empanada, Chipotle Shrimp tacos and Flautas. The Chipotle Shrimp tacos were a special they were having. They were okay, but wouldn't order it again. I think I didn't like the cheese sauce with the shrimp. Everyone is different. The rice and beans were very good and the Flautas were good. We weren't too impressed with the Chicken Empanada. Although we didn't have drinks, I noticed they have a nice bar and many patrons were ordering a variety of drinks. I hope to visit again soon to try out something more traditional and possibly drinks! read more

My friends and I came on a Saturday night, and we shared the nachos, mini flautas, and churros. I also ordered a horchata, which came in a HUGE cup. It was worth the price, although I wish I had the stomach to finish it. The flavor was fine, not the most impressive one I have had, but also not disappointing. The nachos were not bad. It came with a heap of ingredients, although there was too much sour cream that drenched the chips fast. The churros were alright. I did not really like the filling inside, but the accompanying sauce was light and not too sweet. The mini flautas were also okay. They were slightly too crispy for my liking and would have been less dry if they had more than just chicken inside. Service was fast as they were quite attentive despite being busy. Overall, I wish I had the stomach room to eat more, but the prices are fair for the quality and quantity you get. read more

They do not come with toppings by the way, not even cheese! They charged me outrageous prices for toppings!!! I literally paid an extra $3 PER taco for toppings !!! Seriously?? Chicken Mole Plate - 7/10 Sauce was on point. The chick underneath was a bit dry, but mixing it w the sauce did the trick. The beans were a little too wet for me. Chicken Nachos - 7/10 Your standard chicken tacos, nothing special. A food safety choice if you are unsure about what to eat. California Burrito - 8/10 The best out of everything we had here, nice and thick burrito. The steak inside was ok, a little tough. But overall the burrito was up to expectations! Al thought the food was not what we expected, El Patron is a place for friends and family gatherings. The atmosphere and vibes here are 10/10 for sure! Lovely decorations and great music. Food: the nachos were okay, I felt like the guacamole was sitting for a couple hours before topping it. The fried bean tasted like it was slightly burnt, and then they got mixed up with new batch. Overall, it was just not fresh. The rice platter was all right. I felt like the chicken and steak were on the thinner side and it just had too much seasoning to the point where the steak was on the saltier side yet still tender, the chicken was also over seasoned. Their chips and salsa was just too watery for me and I could barely have a sauce Stay on the chip. Service: Andrew was great for serving us that day, he made we got taken care. The owner eddy was attentive as well in making sure we had a seat despite being busy. Ambiance: we went on Cinco de Mayo, so there was a lot of people during that day, which made the volume so loud that you couldn't necessarily hear yourself. It's definitely a crowd for families or colleges to enjoy something inexpensive and support family owned. Honestly, it was a bit too loud for me, and where we were sitting a lot of traffic was happening so it hard to enjoy a meal and chat. Accommodation: they have outdoor patio, which is really nice, but it was raining so couldn't really get the chance to enjoy. It's near the Green Street area. Haven't been here since before the pandemic, ordered the fajita burrito, was pretty disappointed, 95% rice, not a whole lot of steak, hardly any peppers or onions, lacked flavor and spices. Presentation was just a giant burrito on a white plate no garnish or anything, asked for hot sauce to spice it up and just got their standard salsa (which is good) but not what I was looking for. Ok, the food was fantastic. 5 star worthy no doubt. I had a chicken taco salad and it was delicious, and so was the pollo asado. It is one of the best tasting Mexican restaurants I have visited and I have been to quite a few across the country. But the service left lots to be desired. I was meeting colleagues there but arrived first. I walked into the restaurant lobby area and literally stood there for about 5 minutes with employees looking at me but not saying a word. Then 4 white gentlemen walk in and a waitress immediately rushed out to take their order. I then say I was here first will someone wait on me? The waitress looks at me, says nothing and proceeds to continue helping the guys. Frustrated but seeing some of my colleagues approaching I go outside to greet them and we just seat ourselves. The same lady eventually comes out to take our order and I again point out my disappointment in how she treated me. She gave a bogus statement about being busy (there couldn't have been more than 4 -5 tables with patrons and there was another waitress working too). Not wanting to make a scene I drop it and we go ahead and order. To her credit (or perhaps to try to secure a decent tip when she realized I was paying for the 4 of us), she apologized for the "confusion" as she handed me the receipt to fill out. The experience could have been wonderful but it was hampered by employees who chose to overlook me in favor of guests that must have looked more worthy of their attention. If it wasn't for the darn good food, I probably would have give 1 or 2 stars. Should I go back, maybe I'll get a chance to update and hopefully upgrade this review. read more

Definitely a hot spot as it was very busy when we arrived and had over a half hour wait! They don't take reservations which was a bummer because we had four adults and three kids and where out of town. They seemed to be a little under staffed as the servers where running around like crazy and the service was slow. The margaritas where just ok but they seemed to be batch made so we couldn't taste any liquor in them. Which in my tasting I am not a fan of that it was more like a sweet juice. The food on the other hand was great had good flavors and portion sizes was on point!! I was so stuffed at the end of my meal I told my husband I shouldn't have eaten all of it. I've only ever had delivery or takeout from here so I can't speak to the in-restaurant experience, but the food here is great. Big portions and authentic tasting family recipes. The sides of fries and beans that comes with the entrees are super rich and flavorful. Most recently we ordered the fish tacos (with the fried cod) entree and the enchiladas Rojas. My friend got the chicken tortilla soup, which she said was also bland, but a generous size. Overall ambience good, server was polite and pleasant, but food was just not flavorful. We've noticed the place for a few years. Any restaurant. near or around Kelly square. We tended to avoid. We like to chill with out with our the Kelly square experience. No matter how you try to avoid it . The listed restaurants in Worcester tend to be located in or around Kelly square It's a congested area. No parking but yet they have so many restaurants. You got to work through it but there's got to be a gem out there somewhere. I will not be going back to El patrol restaurant. We had to pay for parking. No validation for the parking .$110 dollar bill two meals. Two drink each and two shots. When you sit at the bar do you really think we wanted watered down drinks? Might be just me overrated list of restaurants overpriced. Wasn't a good experience after all. We live in the suburbs of Worcester. I always hesitate to drive out there. This is just another disappointment in the restaurants in Worcester.I hope this helps. read more

Not a huge fan unfortunately. I'm not sure if this is like, the standard for Mexican food in Worcester, MA (not to sound like a huge snobby bitch) but this was significantly below my standards. I'm not from California, or Texas, or Arizona, or MEXICO I'm from literally NEW YORK. I just moved here last week from Philadelphia and I can tell you what Philadelphia offers (authentic or not) is significantly better than what we received that faithful night we ordered from El Patron last week. But, enough about me. We ordered the nachos, with the salsas and shit on the side and no meat. We also ordered a veggie burrito, I ordered a taco salad (trying to be healthier lmao), and we ordered a side of guac. The nachos were chips that were topped with a thin refried bean sauce type thing and another white sauce that resembles a fondue/white sauce hybrid. This was probably the best thing we had however was a far cry from the best or even an on-par order of nachos I have received elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, whatever that white shit is it's fucking delicious and we ate the shit out of it. The taco salad at this place made me regret my attempts at being healthy. Don't even try. It's literally what seemed to me to be reheated frozen vegetables, you know, the carrot/green bean/broccoli combo you buy in at the grocery store? That's this. In some strange brown sauce? Over a bed of iceberg lettuce shavings. I ate 1/2 of it just because I paid for it and I wanted the fiber. It was not enjoyable. This order was a huge regret. The same vegetables I mentioned above were what was in the veggie burrito with the addition of rice. We cannot remember if there was cheese in it. The only good thing was its size, it was pretty large. The guac to me was way too thin and not pleasurable in any way. Needless to say I probably wouldn't order from here again. read more
