Then the girls making the coffee just stood there and talked about their weekend without greeting or engaging with customers or really paying attention to how hot you are steaming the milk. The cup was so hot I couldn't even hold it with the sleeve on it. Very disappointing.

A pleasant foodie surprise in San Angelo!…read more I had to come into San Angelo for work and going into the trip, I was not too excited about my food options available to me as a vegetarian...but I did find Buttercup online and it seemed close enough to those "hip, city coffee shops", meaning I should be able to get some decent food! Unfortunately, a lot of their hot sandwich options were off the table since they seemed to have a broken toaster, but I was able to order a hummus veggie sandwich that came with seasoned potato chips, a side salad, and a stick of chocolate. I also got a vanilla cake bite (pop without the stick) and everything was about $18 with tip. I didn't feel like trying any of the drinks, but some of the coffee flavors sounded interesting and they have seasonal flavors too. The ambiance is inviting, and definitely feels like a cozy place for the community to come hang. If you ever find yourself in this part of west Texas, definitely keep this spot in your back pocket for close to healthy eats!

The coffee options are plentiful and they do their own take on both custom and traditional coffee drinks. You will find all your caffeine needs here. They also have a good menu. There are a few good coffee options in San Angelo and if you are in Buttercup's part of town, this is your stop.

All their coffee drinks have two shots of espresso but you can add an extra shot if you'd like! Their espresso is good and strong. I also ordered the spinach pastry which was amazing. I unfortunately dropped it on the floor because I'm clumsy but Kaitlyn (sp?) and Elizabeth very kindly made me another free of charge after seeing what happened! They were lovely at answering questions, modifying coffee orders, and more. If I'm back in the area, I'll definitely stop by again!

I had an iced americano and the coffee tasted harsh, bitter and burnt. It tasted no better than an iced cup of Folgers. Iced strawberry matcha was very sweet so couldn't really tell if the matcha was quality or not. It was honestly too sweet to drink for me. Suppose I should've order half sweet but I forgot. Atmosphere was a little dingy but overall fine and at least there was a lot of seating. Staff was kind when I ordered. I don't live in San Angelo I was driving through and it looked like there were no good options for a quality cup of coffee. This place seemed the most promising based solely on pictures but it was disappointing. Seems like this place is trying to create more of a vibe and a brand and the coffee is an afterthought. I would highly recommend looking into quality espresso and training your staff on how to properly use the machines because the shot I received was either due to awful beans or inability to pull a quality shot. For $13 + tip I was disappointed in the quality of both drinks.

Inside was spotless and had several different coffee flavor options and a few muffin/bagel options along with Kolaches. My wife and I had never had one so I ordered one. When we received it we sat out out in the back courtyard and ate it along with blue berry muffins and drank our coffee. The courtyard was clean, comfortable and shady. What made this place special was the employees. All very kind with one woman, maybe the owner, taking a lot of time to explain what a Kolache was and the difference between a European kolache vs a Texas. So nice and kind. This…read morewas my 5th time coming to RICE Food and Boba, so I've enjoyed the food and environment; I would officially give the food 7.5/10 and the environment 6/10 (I am willing to overlook the strong grease smell that clings to my clothes while I do dine-in with them). They have around 6 tables available for dine-in, and 1 side table for those waiting, or who have mobile orders (I think?). I usually get their Pad Thai, Fried Dumplings, and iced coffee when I dine-in. Their Pho noodle bowl is average at best--definitely not worth the $16 they charge. Today, I called in an iced coffee and told them I'd be there in about 5 mins. They told me they won't take a drink order over the phone and that they would make it once I arrived (perhaps knowing that the ice would melt and degrade the quality of the drink--I get it). I arrived and there were 2 parties in line in front of me. Altogether, after waiting for the customers before me and putting my order in, it took about 25 minutes from the time I called them to the time the drink was ready for pick-up. One would think a pick-up drink order would be prioritized, but no, they had me wait 20 minutes for them to complete all the lunch meals that were ahead of my call-in/pick-up drink order. Effective and proper business practice would be to prioritize a simple pick-up drink order and not make the customer wait for the time it takes to cook 6 full dishes for dine-in customers. To make things even spicier, I overhear them taking food orders over the phone 15 mins into my wait time. Definitely not coming back to this establishment unless I plan to dine-in, smell spicy, and maybe order a cup of overpriced disappointment... Sorry Rice, your lack of prioritizing of pick-up service broke my heart...

The boba was soggy and noticeably overcooked, which really took away from the texture. The taro coconut latte was decent, but the taro slushie was far too sweet despite requesting less sugar, so sweet that we couldn't finish it. Being one of the few boba spots in town, this place definitely fills a niche when you're craving boba. However, compared with the many excellent options in San Antonio, the quality and balance of flavors just aren't on the same level. It will satisfy the craving if you don't have many alternatives nearby, but for truly good boba, I'd look elsewhere, if you can find any around here.
