They demanded 60% of the total cost before starting the work, so by the time these surprise costs came up, I had already paid most of the contract. The quote was presented as covering everything needed. I understood from the start that I would order and pay separately for the windows, doors, and trash container. But about a week before the project ended, the owner, Renee, told me I also had to pay extra for the the trim entire package, all Int/ext window and door trim, baseboard, quarter round... and for the materials to repair the wall after removing the French doors. Removing those doors was part of the quote. When I objected, she said she had "forgotten" to include these items and called it a mistake. Yet she never forgot to come collect each payment. From the beginning, Renee told me I was not allowed to speak with Sam, who actually runs the project: he directs the workers, tells them how to do each task, supervises them, and brings the materials. She said I could only talk to her about everything, that I should not speak Spanish with Sam, and that I should call her for any question or problem. She also said I had no reason to discuss costs or anything else with him. The problem is that Renee was only on site for 5 to 10 minutes a day, so the person who was really in charge was the one I was not allowed to talk to. This made it very hard to explain things clearly. The rule also changed whenever it suited her: when water leaked into the sunroom during a rainstorm, I was suddenly told to "tell Sam." Sam was arrogant and sarcastic. When I pointed out that the materials being installed were not the ones I had ordered, he raised his voice at me. In fairness, Renee answered texts quickly and came out promptly when I asked her to check something, and the two workers with Sam were respectful and did the best work they could. Still, between the surprise costs, the contradictory communication rules, and the attitude from the project manager, this was a stressful and Terrible experienc.

Before I filed a formal complaint with Angi, my attempts to resolve the outstanding work and invoice discrepancies went unanswered. After the complaint, DHC sent an email that did not substantively address the accounting issues. To be fair, they did send two teams to address some of the outstanding work. However, communication has since ceased again. The plumbing and HVAC remain incomplete, and the disputed invoice has still not been revised or reconciled. I have provided detailed documentation of the disputed charges, payments, credits, and incomplete work. At this point, I am simply asking DHC to finish the remaining contracted work and provide an accurate final accounting. I will update this review if the remaining issues are resolved.
