0 stars if could. Heavyset lady with red curly hair has a unprofessional customer service. I come for the carnitas on weekends & decided to eat inside. Halfway into my meal, her n the boyfriend are yelling at each other, bickering at him while he was eating his tacos. They go back in forth for a few minutes yelling profanity at eachother (B****, C***, A******). Then comes up to me while riled up saying I can't drink my medicated drink, keep in mind I drink this everyday at any other restaurant with no issues. It's literally water with a liquid medicine. She yells across at the hall while serving another customer with drinks, saying "I don't allow outside drinks in my bar". I've never had issues with the other waitress's. Regardless there's a way to approach customers in the facility, let alone with kids around. Sadly, based on other reviews, customer service is not it. read more

We've stopped by this bar twice now during posted open business hours (early evening both times), and both times it was completely closed. No sign on the door, no update online, nothing. The internet still says it's open, but that hasn't been our experience. It might be a great place when it's actually open, but it's been pretty frustrating to make the trip more than once only to find it locked up tight. Hopefully they'll update their hours or post notices if they're unexpectedly closed. read more

Been coming here off and on and when they are open the bartenders have been great. However, the owner can't figure out when to open or when to staff so it's randomly closed with no notice. I was recently there on a Friday night after work around 3 and, as previous mentioned, the bartender working was amazing. Nothing but sweet, attentive, and made good drinks. But the night ended on a bad note when the owner came in and started reprimanding her in front of guests with no regard and then continued to belittle her and say how he was shutting down to rearrange for the club Hispanic night that he paid $15,000 for the band. He made sure to say how much he paid in front of the guests and called his bartender a child. We then overheard a not private conversation, after he told us we had to leave because he needed to set up for the club night, between him and another customer saying he wasn't running a charity and wouldn't do any less no matter the story to rent a couch for the club night. The bar is great when it's open, the bartenders are awesome, but the owner really thinks highly of himself and his LA days of owning nightclubs and doesn't care about his staff or any patron that doesn't pay a cover charge to see the bands he books. To add salt to the wound to his claim of saying he can't wait to clear staff in front of us, and his awesome bartender, he parked in the handicap spot and couldn't care less. I have encountered a lot of bad places over the years, and only one other place has led me to write a bad review and that was when the waitstaffs boyfriend and friends tried physically fighting my friends. This industry is hard and i understand that being having been involved in it for years, but this made my skin crawl. Love the staff here but I will never give this guy another penny for how he treats them and how he could care less about his daily customers. read more

7/24/21 This place is highly recommended! Ive been coming to this place since 2010. The people are wonderful & are friendly! Ive know most of the regulars here for a long time. The owner Norm & staffs are fantastic! Louie the waitress is fabulous! Great service & fantastic personality! Im very impressed with the new DJ karaoke Russ on Fridays! He has a great personality & his system is fantastic! The mix & sounds of karaoke is well done. I sang great with his karaoke!!!! I request Russ to be regular on DJ Karaoke Fridays & Saturday! Went there last week. Bathroom was filthy, bar top was sticky, boxes and crap stacked all over the side dining room. There were zero customers but people were literally lying around in a booth. Bartender wasn't friendly, served drinks and gone. Place was gross, sad to see it like that. read more

NEVER EVER again. We have come here as a group of 8-15 people every Friday for years. We LOVED the last chef that came out to chat with us. Well, shes gone, and the waitress, Veronica made my friend cry today, because she reprimanded her in front of everyone about not RSVPing we would be there. THEN, she got her lunch along with one other customer at the table, 1/2 an hour behind of everyone else. Started Friday 10/22/21 one of the regular customer Lynn celebrated her birthday it was a blast party everybody had a great time. DJ Russ Karaoke great sounds with great dance music. Great Karaoke singers. This Saturday 10/23/21 Live Music Wild Rumours Band played classic Rock and Dance songs it was full house. Everyone had a great time!!!! This restaurant/bar barely rates a one star. They have a waitress whose assigned as the only one to work the tables. She has absolutely no customer service skills, and is downright rude in taking orders. I hadn't been there in some time, when I decided last night to briefly stop in. That same waitress came to me within minutes of my arrival, telling me, "You have to order something, or you have to leave." Just with that attitude I chose to not buy anything, and to leave. In the distant past, when I asked if they sold bar snacks, I received a strong reaction, as if being there, you can't ask for what they hadn't considered. While there are some nice people who pass through this bar, I also notice how they rationalize putting up with the declining service here. If you want a neighborhood bar, and don't mind rude staff, this could be for you. As for me? There's so much better, elsewhere. read more

Good ol' Karen N recently told me about Comstocks which I had NEVER been to, explaining that it was a good place for breakfast. This weekend, we decided to give it a try and she was way right. Saturday morning it wasn't crowded when we arrived in the late morning and we had our pick of any of the sections. Our server was friendly and brought us menus and water right away. She told us the specials of the day and I splurged and went for the biscuits and gravy special with eggs and bacon. My husband tried the chorizo and eggs, which came with choice of tortillas or toast and choice of potatoes or beans. He went with tortillas and beans and he said it was really delicious. My biscuits were hot out of the oven and were soft and yummy with really flavorful gravy. I almost never order biscuits and gravy... you know, the heart attack thing, so when you do order them it is terrible when they aren't great. NOT HERE! They were perfect. Best I've had in a restaurant in a VERY long time. I also ordered their "Best Bloody Mary in Escondido" except with gin instead of vodka and it was quite good. Throughout service our server was attentive and friendly. Cost was about the same for any breakfast place in Escondido. Its definitely not fancy, but neither am I and we will DEFINITELY be back. New ownership jacked up prices to $6.00 for day well drink. Stopped in Saturday nite at 8:30 ( 3 people there) and charged me $12.00 for same well drink. I complained to bartender about highest price in Escondido. He got aggressive and asked me what my problem looking for a confrontation. No more Hispanic bars as u will be shook down at the door looking for weapons. Apparently its this kinda bar now in our city of Escondido. This Ain't No High Class Night Club! Comstock Bar & Grill is just a low key average neighborhood bar. The bartenders and waitstaff have been there for years. That is one of the qualities. If your looking for some kind of fancy or exotic club, keep going. The Comstock is for the average Joe, looking for a comfortable place to hang and meet just some good decent locals looking for the same thing. The Food is always GREAT! an excellent Rubin Sandwich, the dinner salad is always fresh and a nice size. They have GREAT Hamburgers and French Fries and the Beer is always COLD. I like to go to the Comstock for Karaoke, Wednesdays and sometimes Thursdays.The sound is good, they have a dance floor and the people are familiar. I always enjoy myself. If I had to give advice to the Owner, I would say, keep the kitchen open till 9 pm and on the week nights the Bar open till eleven, eleven thirty! Ordered our drinks...they got busy talking and forgot came back to us asked us again for our order (only 2 drinks) finally 35-40 min later. Got our drinks. Horrible. The new people that took this place over are running into the ground. Place is gross and dirty. Everything has changed in that place. This place could be fun to have karaoke and what not. Well first off I stopped in to kill a couple hours, grab a beer and a bite to eat, and here's my experience: Ordered a sculpin and the "Escondido chicken" which should have included chicken breast, tomato, avocado and a baked potato but hey, no baked potato till 5pm and surprise! I get zucchini instead of avocado! So I paid $15 for microwave chicken breast and some sliced zucchini and tomato which WOW!!! SALTY!!! I even brought up that there was no avocado and everyone laughed like I was from outer space... ...imo don't call something "Escondido" because it has avocado and charge a premium price and then don't come through with the avocado wtf! I thought that I'd have lunch here today, I walked in and there was some lame Xmas music playing. Well that kind of music isn't conducive to a good time in a bar....so I decided to use the jukebox, I put some in money and selected better music. The song came on but the volume was low and the lame Xmas music was still playing. I asked the barmaid to lower the lame Xmas music and turn the jukebox up. She got huffy and said that she wanted to hear her Cd on a boom box. My response is that I was a paying customer and my music had precedence over her lame Xmas music. She tried to argue that I didn't have any precedence at all. So I said "fine, give me my tab and I'm out of here." It took her some time to ring up my card as she had to complain to other customers on how unfair I was being. My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday night to check out the karaoke. I hesitate to call this place a dive because it didn't feel grimy or sleazy -- just dingy. The decor is Howard Johnson circa 1983. The crowd was mostly over 50, with several cowboy hats in evidence. The KJ was pleasant and efficient. The sound system was fine and the little stage was cute, and even had some lighting effects. The song book was basically the worst I have ever seen at a karaoke night, but it's still possible to find something that will work for you in almost any genre. The singers could mostly carry a tune, which is a damn sight more than I can say for the crowd at the Lamplighter. The food was diner food, basically: sandwiches and burgers, with some bar appetizers and salads that probably lean heavily on iceberg lettuce. I recommend the Comstock Club. The only real downside would be the waitress. She makes herself scarce. We had to ask the bartender to find her and have her come to our table to take our order. She was not reliable about refills. Oh, and since this place can be a little difficult to find -- it's in the shopping center behind the big liquor store at Mission & Escondido. Allllllll the way back in the corner. read more

Let me start by saying a bar and grill might not make you think "breakfast" but that is where you would be sadly mistaken. On our way to that "other" egg place a few doors down, I spotted the Comstock's window advertisement that said, "great breakfast". Well that is no bragging. I can't think of a better breakfast in Escondido. Ambiance? Who cares when the cook and the friendly waitress are serving up a fantastic omelette! We also asked to see the dinner menu. Ok...I'm going to both agree and disagree with the other review on this place. It is a little sketchy and a little dirty. A watering hole for the local crowd....and...wait for it....AWESOME. I went here with some friends from work on a Tuesday evening. TUESDAY! (I think everyone there was drunk already....TUESDAY) Scene: Karaoke night People: EVERY WALK OF LIFE...Old people (with oxygen tanks and everything), working class (a table of constuction workers), Wanna-be Thugs, Actual Thugs, A group of gay guys, a mentally chalenged girl, teachers, and even a few older cougars (Read: leathery skined cougars) At one point, the Karaoke order went: wanna-be thug singing Dr. Dre, then...Actual Thug singing Mariah Carey, followed by old lady in a walker (No, I am not making this up) singing the Beatles,,, followed by a construction worker (he looked like he was going to sing metallica) singing Cher....we were going to leave at this point, but the gay couple told us to "Sit down!...you can't leave during this!"...we sat back down It was the oddest bar I have ever been to....which made it AWESOME read more

I would avoid this bar at any cost. Escondido is pretty weak when it comes to a nightlife scene and although the Comstock is a bar, it does little to help the situation. The location is aways from Escondido's charming and metropolitan downtown area, but the Comstock is near to some sketchy parts of West Mission Blvd. The Comstock is a watering hole for a lot of Escondido's middle aged working class residents (the place is worse than Pounders, 'nuff said) but at least the bar gives patrons the option of being able to go out for a drink past midnight, and that is a pretty rare thing in Escondido. read more

Don't waste your time. Especially if you want to eat. Dark, dingy, sticky tables, chairs that are wobbly and so uncomfortable. Owner is so cheap he doesn't even turn the lights on. Better that he doesn't, it would only disturb the cockroaches and whatever more bugs they have around. The posted hours are not correct. Drove 30 minutes for breakfast only to have some mean old guy tell me to leave because they don't open until 11. Couldn't find the rating. Most likely hidden. If they had a good rating it would be proudly posted. If you're into dark, seedy, dirty, sleazy, and rude places, you're in for a real treat! To the owner of this place- 1- My advice is to bring back the live bands. We used to go to this place when live bands used to play and there was a bigger crowd, bigger crowds can boost your business. I have been at the Comstock on several occasions and have to say that it has become my favorite place for breakfast! They only serve on Sat & Sun and I have to say they have the best bloody marys. I like clamato bloody marys and they are OUTSTANDING! Rose makes the best drinks ever! I have gone to the Comstock on many nights also they have good food and the entertainment is really good also. If you want to have a good time and relax they have a great variety of patrons, and it is comfortable no matter who you bring! This strikes me as a place that should be on bar rescue. If you visit you're definitely not coming for ambiance or food. Inside is very dark, you can hardly see to make your way around. Came with a large group and ordered a number of things from the menu such as chili burger, sampler platter, onion rings, club sandwich, chili, pastrami, French dip, and cheesesteak sandwich. The "pastrami sandwich" if you can even call it that, had one slice of meat. We left feeling like we'd be hating ourselves for eating the food shortly after finishing.
